I've been playing all the betas. I have a lvl 20 chanter. I'll say this now, I am a pve carebear. My favorite mmo's have been EQ, LOTR, and SWG(where I was a weapon smith and did NO pvp).
This weekend I was minding my own business, doing quests, when BAM! Ganked by a group of Asmodians. Those dirty bastards! So, i ran back to the same area to finish the quests I was doing.... and you guessed it, BAM! ganked again, no real surprise there. The third time I went back a group of Elyos managed to show up and put them(those Asmodian bastards) down. At this point I was able to finally finish my quests.
So about now you're thinking here comes the carebear complaining/crying. Nope.
I don't mind getting ganked here and there. Sure it can be a lil' bit frustrating, but it adds a bit of excitment and danger to an otherwise pretty ez and safe gameing experience. Aion, like every other pve mmo I can think of, is pretty ez when it comes to killing AI mobs. I can see how the Abyss will be BOTH frustrating AND fun....
The game does your standard mmo fair SO well, that I can live with pvpve. Maybe i'll learn something. Do something a lil' bit out of my comfort zone.......
This pve carebear is going for it!

This is what happens when PvP is done well, im pretty sure one day a rift will spawn next to you, taking you to asmodae, and you will consider seriously going in.
Haha good to hear it didn't make you rage. One day you may find yourself in that group fighting them off. One cool thing i've read alot about the Abyss is how strong a few defenders can be in defending a fort against a large number of players. You may find you like defense over offense/ganking and have a lot of fun with it.
Good luck going forward!
I got killed while questing on a pluma and thought it was pretty funny. It was even funnier when I went to a transporter in training and got accidently sent to Asmode. I'm quite surprised how many shots I got in before they recognized me.
I mean if that's ganking, then all of pvp outside of a siege is ganking. It's not though. It's Realm vs Realm. When you see the other faction you fight. Sometimes you have the upper hand and sometimes you dont.

Nice try. You are obviosly a ganker in carebear clothing trying to lull us real PvE carebears into hanging around to be fodder for your gank fests. Sorry not gonna work!
CARE BEAR STARE!
lol :P
Welcome to the dark side!!!
I will be playing Asmo when we go live, aka, the dark side. I'll be rolling a cle and an SM on 9/22. Im playing Elyos in beta just to see what's up. To see what I'll be missing.
Just bear in mind that it's only a game. If you take things too seriously you'll rob yourself of any chance at having fun.
Congratulations on adding new depth into your gaming.
An Aion dev interview mentions exactly this - the game aims to bring PvE players closer into PvP in the PvPvE environment and catering to everyone, or at least it is the idea behind the concept.
If it will work, I don't know, I haven't stepped into rift-enabled areas or THE Abyss yet.
My gaming background has UO, RF Online (3 races in RvR and the world is not that big) and WoW (PvP gankfest and spawncamping servers) in them, so, there's really nothing that can surprise me and I'm not the one to go advertising the game to the strict I-hate-PvP-and-only-do-PvE crowd.
It's always a beautiful thing to see the blind understand the light:
PvP turns a boring grind into an adventure.
In time you will reach full enlightenment and join us in Darkfall, but until then, happy killing.
I have not read one bit of info about darkfall that would make me want to play Darkfall. Not even if AV payed me minimum wage.
Unfortunaly i was really loving this game until i read about the forced PVP not big on PVP frankly i dont understand how just ruining someone else gameplay is fun. If it was fair pvp like i had a chance i would accept it but getting ganked by a buch of high lvl guys who i stand no chance again ruins a game for me so i went from loving this game to it being a pass for me
I can see that.
I liked what I saw enough though to give it a chance. I think that "fair" pvp is probably not really pvp. That would be some kind of super controlled arena type action. This is faction vs faction mayhem. I think, I maybe wrong, that you can avoid most pvp, however, a lot of what the game has to offer is in the pvp zones.
Apparently pvp is changed in 1.5 so no ganking. Perhaps someone else can give the specifics on it but I'm pretty sure that's the deal.
I could get nerdrage when ganked alot in WoW, but then I thought; If this game can make me angry, it still means I care. It still awoke emotions in me.
When I get killed by an NPC I just shrug. But when you see another enemy player, and he spots you. And he two levels above you. He has the advantage. Your just going "dont do it.. dont do it".
And then he begins attacking you. Why? did he think I would attack him first!? We cant talk, how should he had known? He attacks, and i begin fighting. Stunned, down to half health in a matter of seconds. Drinks a health potion, runs after him. Gets a lucky few crits and wins by a small margin. good I had that potion. I /hug him and get the achievement for making love, not warcraft.
My heartrate is up over 100. I had fun.
In some cases I would die and I would swear that he would pay at end game when I got stronger.
I love the drama of it. And it was okay because I was not punished for dying outside the shame of losing. Had I lost items or xp or something it would be too much. Then I would be to scared to pvp.
I concur. Also, OP, being a carebear isn't a bad thing. My favorite parts of MMORPGs are crafting and socializing. I love pvp, but over the years, I've learned that gamers are better programmers than devs and hacks/cheats run amuck in these games. To me, that really takes the fun of PvP away. Unfortuntately, there isn't much you can do about it. Hopefully, in Aion you can enjoy the full game without having to bother too much with the PvP of the PvPvE.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

Yes it basically gimps the hell out of the Rifts system and kills force PVP, it's why I cancelled my Pre Order. Carebears win again.

Oh, go easy... The anti-ganking system they implemented is not goint to "kill" rift PvP. It applies only if you go killing people much lower level than you and lots of them. Tho I'm a huge fan of open world PvP games I think this is very justified in a game which is so largely dependent on levels. If you're level 40 and go slaughtering level 10 people you should be stopped. And why? Because you are not gaining anything except the dubious pleasure of annoying other players who have no chance of defending themselves... there is no reward for killing someone that low (and nor it hould be). Which brings me to my second point and that is the definition of ganking (or griefing to be more precise).
Ganking is PvP with no in-game justification or point except ruining other players fun. A good, well thought out PvP is always fun because it has an in-game reason for happening. For example, STV PvP in WoW is annoying ganking because it is pointless - there are no rewards for victors and the only thing they get is the pleasure of ruining someone else's fun. Tho I love world PvP more than anything else in mmos, I absolutely hated STV PvP because I knew that the guy attacking me is doing it for no other reason but to cause me grief and ruin my fun. On the other hand if there were some kind of repeatable "kill 10 enemy players" quests there I would love it... and why is that? Because then it would have some sense and point to it. The guy attacking me would actually be doing me a favor by being there for me to kill later on. I'd know that these are the rules of the game here and we'd all have fun, hunting each other, grouping together for protection etc etc.
From what I gather this anti-ganking system basically kicks in only if you kill a lot of players of much lower level. You then get debuffed and therefore closer to their level and your name gets publicly advertised so the poor downtrodden masses get their chance at fair revenge. That sounds pretty cool to me - like a softer version of the infamous "chicken" mechanic they got in WAR. Imo such a system is absolutely necessary in every open PvP game that has a steep character power curve. If Aion had a soft power curve with not that much difference in power between characters then I'd be against it, but with such exaggerated difference in level power it is really quite justified.

You better believe I am going in solo or not I will find some one to kill

ROFL, I was just about done with this forum and this game because of the forced PvP and now I see a message like this. ARG....

Yeah, that's good news to me.
I am also glad to hear there will be diminishing returns for ganking lowbies. Now we will know who the real sadists are.

And its posts like these that really make me think that this game will do great, its good that it has a healthy mix of both, its a good way to keep a game exciting and fresh on a day to day basis
I just got ganked in the abyss by what looked like 12 or so asmo......woot!? Heh.
FFA PvP is not for everyone. I like knowing who my enemies are... in Darkfall (or any game like it) you don't have that.
I'm not going anywhere near that type of game. I'll stick to my Faction vs Faction Games.
Besides, what read on Darkfall I wouldn't like it just because controls sound awful and skill system sounds worst.
