Its wow with an Asian polish to things. The background music I don't really care much for and it has a lot of lineage 2 feel to it.

They really need a proper broker system... Nothing worse than coming into a new town and not being able to walk because 500 people are sitting their with private stores up lol... How goofy a store system can you have lol..

I enjoyed the game overall and made it to level 11. The graphics were nice imo but seems cpu is more important than a decent gpu for t he game. Im basing my opinion on two diffferent pcs I have played it on here. One has a gtx260 with crap cpu (amd x2 3800 & 2.5 gigs ddr 1 ram) on vista. The other machine has duo E7400 intel, 1 gig ram ddr 2, on xp with an 8800 GT... The intel machine runs it much smoother than the amd machine even though the video is better.. I am upgrading the amd system soon I know its bottle-necking my card atm :)

Well, first off, the shops are AWESOME. Maybe you're not a big fan of Kal Online or Silkroad, but I absolutely loved the shops. If I wanted to sell something quickly, say, fish, scrolls or gems, I'd just open a shop and the cash would flow in.

Honestly I'm getting tired of noobs claiming that every mmorpg released since WoW (AoC, WAR, Aion) are just WoW rip offs. I know you're trolling, but it never ceases to amaze me how stupid people are.

DURRR WOW WAS THE FIRST MMORPG EVUR xDDD.

No wonder I stopped playing WoW, lol.

Also, if theres any game thats like Aion, it's Guildwars.

The first levels are a good bit like WoW, but the rest of the game isn't especially mid to end game.  Hard to see that from the beta though.

I like personal shops though a lot.  I just maybe wish they were a bit more limited with placement.  I like for player market areas, but not player markets all over the place clogging up important npc areas.

I don't usually take notice of music in games, but, I really like the music in Aion. To each his/her own I guess.

I like the music too, and I love the sound effects.

    1. It is not WoW

    2. It does have a proper broker system. It just has private shops too, which is something I like.

In Kal Online, you couldn't open a shop near a NPC (had be atleast 10m away). Good feature.

Uh, Im not trying to troll... I gave an honest impression of the game. Its wow for Asia being sold in North America to try an capture distgruntled WoW fans.

No Im not a fan of those games... I played Eq2 since launch and had multiple level 80 classes in that game. Prior to eq2 it was SWG.. The selling system is so " insert-free-asian-mmo-here" And its the cause of massive amounts of LAG in certain areas where I could care less about whatever your selling.... Ill get the damn item I need on my own or I wont get it... The stores are so pathetic, wastes of skin those people are, sitting on the server taking up precious beta slots....

  • ProfRedProfRed Member UncommonPosts: 3,495

The problem is it is a very different experience than WoW after the starting areas and many people have researched, played, or understand that so when you come in saying 'It is WoW' you are going to catch a lot of flames.  I can see why you would think that from the early levels of beta, and I thought that for a long time as well, but if you look into it there is a completely different approach and game than WoW here.

From mid level on much of the game takes place in the Abyss which is a large PvPvE/RvR zone with open world pvp(no pve servers to hide from it) with multiple fortresses and sieging.  There is a much larger focus on the RvR and world pvp aspect of the game as opposed to restricted battlegrounds, arenas, and end game raid instances.

There are a good bit of similarities though with the early levels so again it makes sense that you would think that.

You are trolling. You're claiming that it's like WoW but for asia and sold in the US to capture WoW fans. Yet, that's false and an idiotic claim at that.

If you're not fan of asian games like Kal Online or Silkroad (bet you never played Silkroad) then you probably should just shut up and continue playing WoW for that gear you wanted.

As for the shops. It only happens in the big areas where theres lots of room and tell me, are you in the sanctum often? No? Then whats the problem? Theres a borker in every major city.

Shift + F12 will hide PC's. This will alleviate any issues with lag due to private stores, especially if you plan on simply ignoring them.

Now IMO, having both a private store system AND a broker (auction) system is great.

95% of all percentages quoted on the internet are made up on the spot 50% of the time.

Yeah...games is just ok so far. Also about 10th level. The combat system is nothing new. Click click...as expected. That's standard. The character design is better than WOW but less detailed than AoC. By this I mean the ways in which they can be customized/individualized and the all around graphic quality. The avatars look excellent in my opinion. Comparable to AoC but more vividly colored. They are what most impressed me. The landscape is also beautiful and colorful...very ethereal quality to everything (the "but" comes later). Animations are decent. The characters , players and mobs do look a bit like cell shading though and although beautiful the surrounding environment ,imo, lacks depth and dimension.  I felt like I was looking at a 2d character..fooling me into thinking it was 3d...all the while running around the surface of a matte painting.  No convincing feeling of weight or perspective. The gameplay is basic at early levels...i'll try to comment more at later levels. Still..kind of Fun game...but so far...not hing monumental. Still early.

Addendum: This is not WOW...i like wow...but this game is far more beautiful than wow. The music was cool..kinda hard rock guitar going on...but seems out of place. So far...like i said...the best part of this game is it's cool arse looking avatars. Needs more race selections in future...although you can pretty much make your avatar look like any race (real or fantasy)with all the height and width degrees of control ..features and color options. I saw toons running around that came up to my knee. naming is limited in length..i forget how many characters...but apparently not in content. A lot of stupid ass names running around. Try to help the immersion people..come on now. Any fantasy novels you've read ever have the main hero named "PwnerbBoy"..why take up the beta space if you're going to look and act like a tool....i'm just rambling now.

I have 6gid Ram Intel x-58 motherboard with I7 920 2.6ghz...gtx275oc gpu...It ran very...very..smooth. I do not remember any lag what so ever. Surprising because I thought it would bear a load on my system. The screenshots and video looked intensive...but in game it is very smooth. Graphics...except avatar..do not seem that intensive  when you're actually in the game.. despite looking pretty good.  This would probably run pretty well on even lower specs....like I said...looks more graphic intensive than it actually is..great for performance.

I actually love the music in this game.  The last MMO that had music I would keep on all the time was FFXI.  The only music I don't like is the techno sounding battle music that comes on sometimes.  It just doesn't fit in with the rest.  Other than that this is the best MMO music since FFXI.

I'm also not a fan of the way shops are implemented.  It's not that I don't like them, but I wish you didn't have to be stationary.  I'm not sure if it's changed since I played, but I liked the fact that you could open your bazaar in FFXI while you were out doing stuff.  I used to make a bunch of juice and food, and sell them while killing mobs.  I also don't like the big bubbles floating over everybody.  I would much rather have to mouse over to see what their message is.  Then again, I guess the bubbles saves you time (depending on the message).

I do not like the seller system either, its not needed with a broker so the reason its implemented in the NA version is a mystery. The music to me went from ok to very good depending on the area. I do love the graphics, the game is beautiful and i found myself just standing around and looking a lot of the time. As for game play, its very linear and does have a claustrophobic feel to it. Im not a fan of getting lost but a more open world would be nice. The game ran well on my machine with some rubberbanding and lag here and there but all in all it is well polished. Havnnt gotten to the PVP yet so cant comment on those areas but so far the game isnt really different than what we have seen but i do think its done a lot of things better than what we have seen.

L2? That to me is a good thing. The music is "ok" not my favorite but it works within the context of the game.

Well many people love this type of shop system and some dislike auction houses.  I personally love shops because it creates a more personal experience and enhances the gameplay for merchants/crafters.  This is when it is done really well.  Aion does it ok, but it could be much better. I am one of the people that doesn't like auction houses at all.  I would prefer for players to run shops only, but it would take a much deeper system than what Aion has to make work.  It would also need a much deeper crafting system so that players can largely be merchants/crafters if they wanted to.

I guess it wouldnt be so bad if people didnt sit in front of mailboxes, building you need to get into and my favorite annoyance was a guy sitting on the entrance to a bridge i needed to cross. Seemed like spamming to me.

As far as shops go its like having a mini mart you can go to instead of travling all the way to the grocery store.

Juat want to pick up some milk(pots) on the way home(on a quest)

    The following statement is false
    The previous statement is true

Yeah Aion's isn't the best implementation of it.  If I play long enough I aim to master cooking and set up a shop some where out of the way and try to build regulars who come to get food for as cheap as I can sell it.  When there is only an AH I have almost no interest in being a merchant or crafting, but when I can setup shop and become known as X merchant I am all over it.  This is something I didn't realize until recently looking back at how i've played random different games.

SWG allowed shops and setting up your own buildings and I built a little player shop district with friends.  Mabinogi had personal shops in designated areas in towns and I created a ninja suit crafting business.  FFXI had personal stores outside of cities and I would setup every night and sell crafted goods or random things and I enjoyed it all immensely.

WoW, and any game with an only AH system I didn't play more than a few months, but I had no interest in creating a business.  It all felt detached.

I am a sandbox type of person though.  I prefer entirely player driven economies with a demand for gathered goods from adventurers for crafters, and a demand for crafted items, and fun implementations of crafting with personal shops, etc, etc, etc.

    Hi there, )

I thought aion would be the place i could spent the cold winter with my girl, raid together and go sleep with ur healer ;DD. Long time since catch attention and i might grow up a little, but anyhow i got very excited in last 2 weekends CB. Aion looks really nice (no high res on CB right?) but some of things might make me just play the winter, have fun, etc , but i doubt ill stick with for a long time, items +4, farm bosses, MONEY, smash button. I have done that, it is addictive indeed, but as i said maybe i expected something more dinamic mayb, these are beta impresions but doubt mechanics will change essentialy.

Normaly as i said i will b ther eon release and surely willl enjoy it.

I profit to explain one of my mains motivations to write here now has been that i have been playing AoC for a year now and i reliced  how great game is imo. Mature world like no other in mmo scene, realistic world, movement, atmosphere, i think it is too  ahead of its time (at least release it was ^^), so i relly encourage u all to give it a try while september comes.

    anyhow, have health & fun

i wonder ..if you show some posters on this forum a screenshot or video of WOW...would they scream that it was just another WOW clone?   It 's probably goes back  farther..but Old Might and Magic games from the eighties had UI's with similiar icons that you push...and wsda  movement....I think I'll just call everything a "MaM" clone.

    @partynikko and goldendog.

I can't fault the OP for what he is saying.

Why? Because to me Aion, Early on, is a hybrid mix of WoW and Lineage 2.

I haven't past level 18 myself. (and that solo on a Chinese server)

Post level 10 the game starts showing it's own identity... before that is it WoW with a Asia polish to it.

I don't have any issue with Player shops either, but I don't like the fact they end up cluddering up hi traffic areas.

It needs to be more limited as to where you can set up shop but, over then that it's fine.

In short from level 1 to 11 I can see what the OP saying, and he wasn't trolling.

Don't knwo your problem with the systems... Compared to the two, I have the worse system imaginable (see siggy - mixed of that "crappy" CPU and "crappy" GPU), and I have no problems playing Aion at maxed out settings on 1600x1200.

IMO you should tweak your VIsta machine to get Aion running better. :D
