I thought Windows 7 came in a 32 bit and a 64 bit version? All I can find is Windows 7. It doesnt specifiy 32 or 64 bit. However, it hints that both options are available on the disc?
Also, can you use the upgrade version if you're running XP? if you're running XP 32 bit will it only upgrade to 32 bit or can you choose 64 bit?
anyone know the specifics of this?

From what the Windows 7 website says, both 32 and 64-bit discs come in the retail box. And the upgrade is designed for windows vista, but XP can use you. It requires a clean install though.

I am running Windows XP, can I upgrade to Windows 7?
Microsoft designed Windows 7 Upgrade media for Windows Vista. A customer with Windows XP can purchase Windows 7 Upgrade media but must back up their files, clean install, and then reinstall their applications.
I'm not certian, but I have a feeling it'll be something like the Vista 64bit upgrade, where you pay a nominal fee and they'll ship you the disc to upgrade to the correct version. I'll double check with my dad tonight though, he's part of the team working on it, and if no one else has given you a definitive answer by then, I should be able to
oh, and there's your answer
Thanks a lot for the response.

The uprgrades which are 50% off come with both 32 and 64 bit versions.
You can upgrade from a LEGIT copy of XP or vista.
To move from 32 bit to 64 bit however, I think requires a full reinstall on your main hdd...not upgrade.
one more question
since I use XP prof. and I'll have to do a complete install, what does the full version give me that the upgrade doesnt? Im assuming I somehow need to validate my XP key to use the upgrade version, and the full version doesnt require this? The reason Im asking is because im using a really old key code for XP Prof that I got from a friend of mine. I have a feeling the upgrade wont be of any use to me.

50% off... except for Windows 7 Ultimate. Which, if you have Vista Ultimate, is the one you would logically be looking at.
$219.00 for an upgrade.... I remember purchasing the XP upgrade for $90. What kind of hallucinogenic crack are these guys in Redmond smoking?
For that amount of money, Windows 7 better balance my checkbook, take my calls, wash my dog, mow my lawn, and provide sexual favors.
So far, I haven't seen anything in the touted list of features for Windows 7 Ultimate that leads me to believe that an UPGRADE from my Vista Ultimate x64, which is all of two years into operation, is worth it.
