Feedback threads:

So, weather didn't make it in and will hopefully be patched in within the next few days.  There's a lot of discussion going on about various aspects of the patch, but overall it seems generally positive. Most of the complaints seem to center on the various changes to mobs.

Can anybody playing the game provide some feedback to this thread?

Heres a poll about the expansion on the offical forums as well, seems like a mixed bag:

Lets take that poll when only the real players in Darkfall can vote. The forum have 300k users in a game with 15k players.

I haven`t found anything from the resent patch yet, but there is more player around than it used to be. You can estimate the number of player on how often you get killed. I have had died a four times today *smiles*

You know, so far only 60 people voted. Tell the players to step up then if they really cared.

Yup, if nothing else the update will help in getting some of the current players to log back on and play to see how they like the updates.

How many of those playing today are those that were waiting for the NA server launch and after the 13th will be gone?

How many more will be gone after the transfers in 3 months?

EU-1 needs new players, plain and simple.  If they did any marketing they probably would have been able to fill EU-1 back up again.

Perhaps they are waiting until after NA launch to see how much "space" they have available.  Hard to say for sure, as Aventurine has the wackiest ideas for trying to make money of any company I've ever seen.

The true test for this "expansion" will be how many subs that the EU-1 server has a month or so AFTER the NA server opens up.  That will be the time that any new players that purchased the game will have to decide to re-sub.  So, later half of August will be a crucial point for EU-1.

If the subs are at or below their level that it was before this recent update... that spells trouble for EU-1.  It spells trouble because sometime in October is when players can transfer off EU-1 to NA.  They need to be ABOVE their current levels on EU-1 to withstand the loss of players when that time comes.

Anyway, all of this is pretty obvious for players that have been MMO gaming for awhile.  I'm sure eventually Aventurine will catch on.  Hopefully they can figure it all out before DarkFall sinks below the point of no return.

The poll has come up to 90 voters as i write this, seems kinda slow to me considering those numbers.

Then again, the players are probably playing right? What the 300k others are doing is anyones guess... though i doubt theres anywhere near that amount of people on their forums nowadays.

I can only comment on what I've seen, which were these posts, sorry.  I haven't been refreshing the page often enough to see posts being deleted.

    Spot on.

The 300k+ number is vastly bloated because of the chance of getting a Beta account by registering.  Many of the accounts that make up the 300k+ amount are duplicates that were created to increase a players chance in getting a Beta spot.

The active members on their official forums would be lucky to 1/10 that amount.  To be fair, they are no different in that aspect than any other internet forum or MMO.  All "registered members" numbers on forums are complete marketing BS.

The other number mentioned there is most likely very inaccurate by now as well.  At their peak DarkFall had a maximum of 18k players as shown in this thread by rhinok: www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/236541

Since then, as reported by many players the number have dropped off dramatically.  Major clans have dissappeared from the game entirely.

Generously, the number actively playing DarkFall before the recent update was probably in the 2-5k range.  There will undoubtedly be a resurgence of players coming back to see the new update, as with most MMOs.

If the update is done well, they may even get some players to re-sub again.  The biggest thing that DarkFall needs is new players though.  It seems that most are waiting for the NA server though, so it's going to be a struggle for the EU-1 server to stay afloat over time.

the 300k forum users are mostly gone, it's still showing the overall number of people that registered there over the last years to get into beta and post there. yes there were really that much interested in the game.

Lol PVE increases skill gain is enough for a lot of people to come back, top that with player housing and a village system, causes more pvp, and random chests, will cause more exploring, more rare drops, and more pve balance, they are making a lot of things and adding in lots to make pvp better for the small unalliance clans and solo'ers.

Good PATCH(I am with the crowd of not calling it a expansion) even though the village/tax system is new and some other stuff as been added, but I want my archery and melee specializations and elemental arrows :(

Games have been calling large patches free expansions since 2002, why would you fight it now? Just because it's Darkfall? When Dark Age of Camelot released housing they called it the Free Foundations Expansion. When Eve makes a big patch, they call it an expansion too.

But yes, the expansion has been great so far. A lot of good things are happening

Yes, I think most here would agree that if implemented correctly this update is definitely a step in the right direction for Aventurine.

The village system incorporated with the personal housing system is very intriguing as well.  If they implement that the way that many on the offiical boards are hoping they do... I can see many other PvP-focused MMOs incorporating a similar mechanic.  On paper at least... it seems like a very good system, and leaves a lot of possibilites for future additions.

EVE does not "expand", it "evolves"

But it sounds like things are going good on the DF expansion front and it sounds promising for the NA launch.

I know they are gone, but if they wanted they still could have voted.

I killed alot of the low end mobs (god I hate killing npc`s) and open a few of the old treasure chest. I didn`t find or noticed anything new. I don`t think alot of players have tested the new stuff, atleast not from what they said in the race chat. The only thing was some had found a chaos chest with 100 gp. I guess we have to wait and see a few days.

And yes, there was alot of players looking forward to DF, but they blew them away with the neverending leveling.

It's actually the mid-level and higher level mobs that have changed a lot... the low end mobs are mostly the same.

Positive patch! theres a lot more activety now. the crafting changes make wearing armour cheaper and easier now so cuts down on the naked pvp. Chests are great if you dont look for them, coming across 100 gold at least lying on the ground is a nice little boost for me :)

The village system seems to have started a lot more skirmish wars going on now. Title quests have given the soloers something to do to advance. Mob changes i havent experienced much, other than fighting gnolls which seem easier but drop the same.

Overall a pretty positive patch thats added lots more pvp. Can only be a good thing. hope they continue this progress now!

I'm a registered user at the forums, but I don't use them.  And I'm 100% sure that a majority of the so called 300k registered forum users does exactly the same as me. You have to be a royal forum whore if you are active on official game forums you don't play on. ;)

MMO's that I have tested: Lotro, L2, Aion, Ryzom

If any new player has accidently turned on his insanity switch and buys Darkfall. He has to be completely insane to start playing on EU-1.

A server that has been plagued like hell by rampant cheaters, macro'ers and exploit abuse.

So even an European player would rather start on the new coming US-1 server, then the current existing one.

Just face it. In time, if Aventurine and Darkfall survive and stays afloat that is, they better off just wiping EU-1 and start over.

    Cheers

Are you sure thats the only change in crafting? i think maybe you should take another look friend :)

You didn't notice the craft up to a 100 at a time button? so that it makes advancing in crafting less of a grind? which in turn encourages more players to craft armour and such so that they dont have to trade :) Take for instance myself..i made 20 sets of studded leather last night so that i have plenty when i die. so even if it has only made a difference to myself ( which i am pretty sure more think the same ) then it has still cut down naked pvp by at least 1 player! Also it has encouraged me not to go farm goblins for rank 0 short swords, as they do less damage now. So i have invested in some rank 20 weapons.

So again a positive move by AV.

Do you play the game or just trolling, the armor got a big buff to all resists, and jewelry got buffs to arcane(only non reg spell dmg type there is) and lower rank weapons got  anerf, while higher ones got a boost.

People are complaining pve didnt change much because they fight naked with newb weapons, I took a new r20 mob dropped and owned some of the hard mobs in game with banded one. And with a r20 bow was doing massive dmg to very prepatch hard mobs.

This expansion as shown true dfo'ers how big of a change, now you just need to hunt mobs in armor and before patch this was not profit, now its very profitable and a must.

I agree, any new player just joining will be kind of insane to go on to EU-1 unless he is EU-1, but NA-1 will be very balanced, considering by the time its release most things will be balanced out and perhaps a skill cap. I mean people are finding these spell/skill/stat books a lot, so after 3 months on NA-1 you will have very good and competition like characters. So EU-1 transfer will not be the gods coming in.

I am staying on EU-1 but I was thinking of getting a alt on NA-1 to get a head start. I am also waiting on reviews of MO first before I buy a second account, also maybe one more patch in dfo, will make it, to see where they are heading and how long(if its not to late) it will take to get there.

How does the armor resist increase make it cheaper & easier to get?  Crafting requirements are still the same for sub mastery Armor.  Plus, mobs have lower hit points and decreased damage now. How's that going to help with all the nakeds?  (ie my original reply) LTR
