Hi
I've actually been playing eve on and off for a while, but I could never stick with it for more than a month because I would always get bored. I know it's my own fault because I didn't take the time to learn about the game and didn't know what I was doing. I never really found a Corporation and this game is boring without people to play with, which is still a problem for me.
I've been reading up lately on a lot of the different aspect of EVE and have been playing for a few weeks now. It's a very hard game to learn, and i'm still having trouble. It's a little overwhelming with there being so many different things to do and learn ( so many different skills, equipment and stats ). I'm kinda lost and don't know which way to go. I need a little direction.
I just lost a cruiser and a battlecruiser last night because apparently I was flying in the wrong area =/ But I guess thats what I get for flying ships I cant afford to replace. Left me with a few hundred thousand ISK, so I really cant afford to lose another ship.
I was hoping I could find someone willing to give up a little of there time to help teach me the ropes and maybe give me a little direction as to what I should aim for.
My in-game name is Flyr so feel free to send me a message anytime Sorry for the long post =X
Thanks in advance. Yarr!

I hope this isn't a weird request =/

By the Yarr I am going to assume you want to be a pirate. I don't like pirates .
I've sent you a PM with some information you should look at.
Read when your bored, get better at the game that way. If your in a battle cruiser and you still don't understand sec status your probably not going to stay beyond the trial.
I'm not sure, I was thinking about going that route because it seems like the easiest way to get into PvP quickly =/
To be honest i've been thinking about it a lot lately and having been killed 2 times by pirates and just looking at the way they talked to me, kinda makes me not want to be one and instead actually hunt them down for being such asses =/ Then again i'm sure there are SOME honorable pirates.
I dunno.

I understand sec status I just don't understand PvP, or didn't. I just couldn't figure out how I got immobilized and killed so easy by a tiny ship. I thought BC's were pretty tough.

It is not that I am not willing to help but first off, you have to explain what you need to help with.
Learning is a process based on personal experience thus it can't be done by anyone else but you and you already know how to find information.
If you want to discuss some matter bring it on but you didn't do it so far.

No hint what direction it should be. If he needs general information, he can use google.
Sorry but I see no reason why anyone should work instead of him.
I do help people and getting helped as well but I always know what I want because I gathered basic info and ask for personal experience and/or advice related to something specific.
I might have missed some part but so far it is just 'Feed me' post no. 156720... :-/

I know very little to ask very specific questions. I don't just want to be fed information.
I want to PvP and either be a Pirate or possibly Bounty Hunter, I think pirate may be the quickest route to jumping into PvP. I was flying a Ferox, but with only 2mil SP I don't know if I can operate it well enough. I also had a Caracal and trained quite a bit with missiles but I read somewhere that missiles kinda suck in PvP so I started training gunnery. I would like to get another Cruiser because with 5 Heavy launchers I did nice damage and destroyed LvL 1 missions.
I just got a Rifter because I read they were cheap and also the best frigs for PvP/Pirating/Tackling, i'm not sure how well I have it fitted though
Highs: 3x 150mm Autocannons, Small Nosferatu
Mids: 1mn Afterburner, Warp Scrambler, Stasis Webifier
Lows: 1x 200mm reinforced rolled tungsten plate, 1x Small Armor Repairer, 1x Damage Control Unit
How would I fair in PvP against other frigs/cruisers? I guess I can't really PvP solo at this point.
I don't get all the different versions of weapons, from what I can tell they are mostly similar in stats. Also, what stats are important, I don't really know what I should be looking at.

I was just looking at the caldari interceptors and they seem like awesome ships. What are they mainly used for/good at. Are they just like more advanced frigs?
Are they nice PvP ships?

If you already have missile skills trained decently then stick with them. Missiles are just fine for PvP. Ferox was the wrong ship to be in for someone that has trained missile skills. If your flying caldari and you have missile skills, kestrel, caracal, and drake are pretty much your choices at first. I was PvPing in a drake solo with 2 mil sp, I still do at 6 mil sp.
Any tips on how I would fit a drake?

OK. Here are some advices for PVP starter:
1) Make up your mind what race you want to fly.
2) Forget about big ships. You will fly frigate/cruiser for at least 2 motnhs. It is always better to lose a cheap frigate in learning process. And you will lose a lot of them.
Remember that larger ship isn't particulary better. Check tracking guide on EVE website.
3) If you want to stay with Caldari, fly Merlin or Moa - both with blasters(+rockets for Merlin).
4) Navigation skills (and Microwarpdrive for ships larger than a frigate) is mandatory.
5) I strongly advice you to join Factional Warfare or corporation participating in one.
If you still want to go with pirate career from start, check the 'New to EVE, looking for some YAR' thread around here. There are some usefull tips.
6) Always have your ship insured.
7) PVE is miles away from PVP mechanics.
Missiles don't suck. All races are balanced, they have their pros and cons.
The rifter fit seems ok. You might think about dropping repper for gyro. Frigates can't really rep effectively.
You can solo in a frig just fine but any larger PVP fitted ship will eat you so your targets are limited to newbs, indy people and other frigates.
Be ready to lose lots of ships.

Repper? Talking about the Armor repair? Gyro? XD Lost me on those terms :P
Thanks a ton for the tips. I'll stick to smaller ships till I can get the hang of it.
Also, indy people?
I read somewhere frigs can do ok on bigger ships by flying in close and fast and staying near/orbiting the larger ship to avoid their fire and slowly bleeding them to death. Is this pretty effective?
Oh and i'm kinda wishing I didn't train so far in caldari as I like some other races ships better (cald frig 5 and cruiser 4=/ ) but I guess I can always switch in the future once I get the hang of things more.

Yes, repper is armor repairer.
Gyro is short name for Gyrostabilizier.
Indy is short name for industrial - ship or occupation.
Frigates can somewhat survive if they move faster than guns are able to track. Check the tracking guide I mentioned before.
It is not really effective but the only way you have a chance to survive in your small ship. Frigate size ships are lacking survivability for PVP and only worthy are interceptors for tackling, imo - they are brilliant and the most used PVP ship in the game.
The best about frigates is price, low skill intensitiy, agility and speed - especialy interceptors.

Are interceptors really only good at tackling or are they a lot better in combat too?

Tackling IS indisseverable part of combat. It involes lots of player skill(and luck to be a good tackler.
All ships have their role in PVP so their performance is always relative to given task.
