Aion's Westernization?

Every time I log into Aion, I immediately know this is an Asian game. From the cute little quest givers, to the font that is used to spell out the name of a new zone when entering. I would rather see a block font than the bamboo looking words that are currently being used…drives me nuts.
Here is the formula for making an Asian game.
1) make sure you have lots of flashing colorful lights (to keep the users' interest).
2) use spinning karate moves when fighting, all the time yelling Hike! Hike!
3) make all women look like 10 yr old girls.
4) and populate your game with cute little "Pokémon" looking animals.
Before releasing to the West, Ncsoft needs to make sure the game is more mature looking. After only 2 beta's, the thought of playing Aion is starting to turn my stomach. Ncsoft needs to "man up" Aion.
Tell me that NCsoft's idea of Westernizing Aion is not just making sure the punctuation is correct. Please tell me there's more...

You seem to generalize Korean with Asian there.
My speculation but ... I don't think that it will happen. I doubt they will have different artistic looks for the same game across different regions. Besides, what you're talking is a matter of taste. Personally I found the art mature enough (if that makes any sense whatsoever).
How exactly would you "man up" the game?
This is doable, make soo the default for character are designed to look westernized (different pre-sets for the western version, is a simple change, not a hugue one). Maybe even make so the korean devs add some textures / decorators that will be used by the western guys.
One with my problems with the game is that *all*, and with all, i mean ALL male npc's are efemenine. I am not a person that say "GAY" at any oportunity, but here is real, all the males in AION looks GAY. I don't think that can be modified, and I think is bad, if only because of the lack or variety

Aion is based on an anime, asians love anime-ish look, and Aion's # of asian subs will tenfold western's # of asian subs no matter what. there you are, 3 reasons why Aion looks anime-ish
iirc they are focusing on giving Aion a western voice acting, but the anime style stays.
and tbh,i'd say far more people in west like that style than more realistic gfx sort of AoC...just look at WoW,totally anime-ish
anyway if you think NCSoft is gonna devote time/money going for a total gfx revamp "western style", you obviosly dont have a fucking clue what is a model or an animation, and how much time/work they take to make

A game is a game and it's made by the nation that makes it with the style that company wants to make it. You can play it or not.

The game already has millions of users in Asia. I'm positive that it won't make or break the developers if it only gets a one or two hundred thousand subscribers in the west. As good as they say this game is, I'm sure it will get a lot more.

I have to agree with the OP, I have never liked the korean/asia look to their MMO's, they largly all look the same (guess a korean would say the same about most western games too such as EQ2 vs Vanguard).
Everyone hing looks so "effeminate"... dont know about any one else but when im pwning newbs I dont wanna do it in a dress with perfectly manicured nails and designer hair that covers half my face... especialy if im playing a male warrior.
And another pet hate.. the over the top animations, I press a skill attack and i have enough time to go read harry potter while the animation plays out, flips, kicks, stabs.. yadda yadda.
Then again there was that time, I got very drunk and declared my love for Thrall and sent him a rather revealing gnomish photo, he never did return my phone calls.

According to one of the interviews, there is more to the process than just making translations. They also spoke to altering things like quests and story parts to be more familiar with the Western Culture.
For example they mentioned if they had a common Eastern fable reference, it would not be suitable for the Western audience as they most likely would not know about it. Just like if there was something about a young leader who told a lie about chopping down a cherry tree, most Eastern people who not have a clue as to the reference.
As for the "look" of the game. It's overall style is fantasy dealing with angels and ascended beings. I am not sure what you mean by "man up", but while there may be cute animals and effeminate looking guys, you are more than free to make a a character who is manly and butt ugly if you would prefer.
Remember, even for the Western world, men used to wear wigs, powder and ruffled clothes which was a sign of nobility and power. So saying the concept is only an Eastern one, is not correct. Additionally, if they went with all cute and pleasant looking they could ensure the game could also be marketed to younger individuals.
In the end, you are free to not like a game based on the overall artwork, but please don't start saying a Fantasy World cannot be Western because you do not consider it manly, realistic and in lines with current fashion.

In 6 months you cannot redo all the art in a game on the scope of AION. Also it would be hard to find enough artists in the US who are good enough to do art that is as good as it is in AION. Remember, most of the good artists at NCSoft West are working on Guild Wars 2.

I can do the same thing you did for western games.
1. Make sure you have a very bland environment (to make it look "real")
2. Use bland attack moves that look identical to most attacks, only with a different color.
3. Make all woman look like a 30 year old transgendered male.
4. Populate your game with a bunch of boars, bears, and any other unimaginative animal/monster you can think of.
I'm sick of this bullshit. If you don't like Aion, don't play the game. Nobody is forcing you to play. NC Soft isn't going to change the art direction just for your punk ass. I'm a fan of both western and eastern made games. Maybe it's because I'm Chinese, but born here, that I am able to appreciate both styles. Anyway, go play a western game and have fun. No need to play Aion if the art direction bothers you that much.

Are you Asian haters just fools, or idiots? You do realize there are many people from all countries, of all races, who do in fact, love the art direction. You also you do realize that many people would actually have the Korean, Chinese, or Japanese voices instead of English? Like I said in a previous post, I'm an American born Chinese. I don't know how to speak Chinese for shit. I still like watching movies in their original form. Nothing worse than badly dubbed foreign movies. The same goes for video games. If I buy a Japanese made game, I always check if they allow subtitles with the original voices. I just prefer it.
I would just like to add that many people in the west grew up with Japanese games. Many of us couldn't afford a computer back then, as they were too expensive for us. What did we have? We had Nintendo and Sega. Only one of my friends had a computer when I was young. Most people I knew had a NES, then a SNES, PS3, etc. So, yeah... many people in the west are already used to Asian games.
You know it's kind of selfish and ignorant of you guys. What about all the people who like the style? Why should they have to be submitted to your idealized western view? Every asian game that comes over here must submit to your ideals? Many people love the style so who are you to say it has to change? It is the style of the game and no one is even asking you to play it. If you don't like the style then don't play the game and let the people who enjoy it enjoy it.
I love the artstyle in Aion... it's called bishounen/bishoujo style where epic heroes in a fantasy saga are all beautiful/handsome strong people. I mean... it's not very thrilling if your hero looks butt ugly and weak...
