Excited about AION. However, can someone name a good Korean MMO?

Lineage II = Asian bots galore. mouse clicking to move...FAIL

War = Didn't feel like a mmo, felt like a boring instance in and out of pvp standing in one spot. Good concepts but completely boring and flopped.

WoW boring with same old repetitive crap over and over. God what a disaster this game has become with the introduction of Death Knights and the crazy imbalance for the last five and half years.

Spellborn = boring, what a fail that game was and is now free to play.

SWG = another good game flopped because Sony fcked it up royally throughout the years.

Asherons Call II = Good game until Turbine unplugged it...FTL

Tabula Rasa = pure garbage. Enough said.

Shadowbane = Mouse clicking to move...FAIL

Age of Conan = Lies...lies..and more lies from previous producers. imbalanced game, classes and skill's = FAIL

Lord of the Rings online = Boring in a way but will give it better reviews then most other mmo's out today.

Asherons Call = the best mmorpg back in the days when a mmorpg was about an mmorpg and not only caring about greed.

Darkfall = Darkfail..Horrid  imbalance, exploits and hackers up the arse. Player housing now?. Lol at that. Tasos the FAIL.

Can't wait to see what some of the newer mmorpg's are gonna be like. I hope they aren't going to add to the FAIL list.

Currently awaiting SWGTOR. I hope its not a FAIL!.  Yawn.

mmorpg's flop faster then mcdonalds cheese burgers these days.

Good is relative to each and every person's taste. No one can tell you which games are "good" or "bad", it's all opinion.

Personally, I think Aion will not target the korean gaming public (I hope so)...
NCsoft have already stated that Aion was going to cater to both the Eastern and Western audience, and it has done so impeccably as far as I'm concerned. The only thing that links it to being a Korean MMO is the art style, other than that it beats most of the Western developed games at their own game, IMO anyway.

the only thing it beat is WAR and AOC at pvp which i can say it does. However i really dislike the grind and lack of quests at later levels but its still a very well done game.

There are easily enough quests to make it to max level, especially since we're getting v1.5 at launch with tons of quests and content.

Well, it beats most recent* Western MMOs with it's scalability (with very good-looking graphics), its accessibility (ease-of-use, UI), polish, content, combat responsiveness, graphics, music, animations, character creation, PvP, PvE, lore, crafting etc. IMO.

It has all this stuff packed in one game, and everything works. It's a complete game and every part of it is consistent with the other. The only reason Aion might not succeed in the West is because of the bots and hacks.

Anyone who looks at Aion as "just another Korean grinder" is massively uninformed, or is just trolling.

Don't forget NCsoft US/West is making changes so it fits what western MMO players are used to when it comes to RPG. RPG is what I and my friends come from the lore of the quest chain and its completion. There is way too much talk of how this game is just going to be plopped in the US when anyone who's a gamer knows eastern gamers expect different things compared to western ones. Honestly after beta testing it I felt like I was back in the community of Everquest with very balanced mechanics. As everyone keeps pointing out almost every flame i've read is misleading, from a person who is uninformed. Test it for  yourself, quest, fight, craft, use the economy, and fly before you flame. I even watched the videos again, and found when I tested they had already upgraded it to look better then the videos.

    Mhmmm

"OMG every game isn't perfect so I'm not going to enjoy any of them."

You must have a sad life.

Half of the games you listed have some really great content mixed in with an imperfect game. (If you weren't so closed mined about click to move, you would have discovered the greatest MMO of all time - Shadowbane.)

And you should know that TOR doesn't look much different than a WoW clone that will have a great story attached to it.

    Lineage II was ridiculous.

No Lineage II was extremely successful.

It's an elitist game heavily reliant on using real-world money to be successful.

Maybe it's not your style, but that doesn't mean it wasn't good or successful.  It had some of the best sieging and mass PvP in any MMO to date.  It did not require real world money at all.  Maybe that is way you play your game.

The character customization is horrible, the game play is ridiculous, the characters look like they have some sort of back disorder.

Char customization has been lacking in many MMO's including Lineage II.  However that is not the case with Aion as it has one of the best out there.

    That's a laugh.

You're a laugh, and you're pretty damn annoying too...

I agree with that he said. Just another person who tried a Hard Core game like Lineage 2 and did not have what it took to play it.

did you seriously just say that an EVE player couldn't handle how "hardcore" l2 is? l2 is a joke compared to EVE as far as being hardcore.

and to the OP, no asian made p2p games have done very well in the NA market.

It's been a while since a revolutionary/good MMO has been released - AION seems like it may be my ticket.
I am an avid EVE-online player but I need my medieval/fantasy fix, as well.
My main concern is the massive failure that NCSoft has shown in the past years.
They've released multiple MMOs rapidly, some of which, are now closed. ( Auto Assault.  Tabula Rasa. )

I am worried that this may be another rushed MMO designed to get them a quick money fix.
Further, my main and foremost doubt about this game is that it's Korean.
What MMO can you name that is good and is Korean?
City of Heroes is not good don't even think about it.

I am not clear on what you think is "revolutionary" about the game, all indications seem that there is very little that is different or new.  However, all indications from people playing abroad and in beta, indicate the game is very good.  What more do you need to sway your opinion?  What does it matter if some of their other games are lousy?  This one is beyond the point of speculation, people are playing the actual game and most have positive things to say about it.  Maybe the same old, but good overall.

I'll be playing once released, at least to try it anyway.

First off, Aion looks decent, and certainly is not the killer of THE game. I have a few friends beta testing, both of whom raid end-game in wow, and they say it is a decent game with some pros and cons, but didn't win them over. I watched the videos myself, it just must not be for me. I'm not sure the y-axis for bursts is exactly revolutionary, but it is a fresh idea. They said aerial pvp was decent, but the novelty wore off soon. As for cons, they were disappointed first off in how grindy it is - all these people can't be wrong completely. And that the game is *extremely* linear and having an alt would not mean much divergence in what you experienced.

As for SWTOR, if it is a WoW clone with an awesome turly non-linear story, they will have my money for years and I would quit wow. HONESTLY, I would switch to a new game if it was 90% of what wow is, just for something new, if the story was good. There are only 2 games that have what I consider to be a true story, and those are LoTRO and SWTOR, and LoTRO just didn't do it for me game-wise, even though I LOVE the books and movies. Star Wars stands the best chance now, for me at least.

nope, sorry I disagree. Yes, there are people who cheat and use real world money and that's a shame. But that has nothing to do with the game in general. The ffa pvp, castle sieges, fast pvp, incredible art design, open world, great animations, are what make this game.

Yes... the quests do suck just in case anyone brings that up.

Lineage 2 is simply one of the best games out there for those people who would enjoy that game. I played it over 4 years and only intended to try it for a week.

And for the record, the Asmodians in Aion also run with their back hunched over. I suspect it is there to look feral and menacing... sort of like loping wolves. Might not be to your taste but there it is.

OP: Aion is a  very fun game and will be my game of choice for many years to come. Having said that, I don't think its revolutionary. I do think it's good and it has the right blend of ingredients that I am looking for... others as well.

Except EvE has had it for years

And any game that allowed fighting underwater (WoW for example) as well

Nothing i have seen about Aion so far is completely new, but i am hoping it will be put together well enough and polished to a degree that it will be good

I need a new MMO world to call home as Tom Chilton keeps destroying them
