I have a Dell Inspiron 1504 with a puny 76Gb HD which I want to upgrade... I've built a few Desktops but never look inside a laptop, is it easy to upgrade and do you have any recommendations (~300Gb) for a manufacturer/model?
It's not used for gaming (except online poker) so no need to reply with any "laptops suck for gaming" posts
Thanks all.

Replacing a laptop hard drive is quite easy, at least was the case in a HP that I had. 4 screws, take cover off and pop out the hard drive. As to which one to re-place it with, is totally up to you. I prefer Western Digital, but Seagate and Samsung are also good. I could not find the model number you gave, 1501 was the closest, so make sure you check your specs as to whether you have sata or ide. I'm assuming sata.

Also, you may want to consider making your old hard drive into a portable or external HD. That's what I did. This works real well and was real easy to place into my desk top. Just make sure you get the correct one for your hard drive sata or ide.
