When I looked over this game I was quite worried about just how the gameplay would be.
Anarchy Online provides guns, and the main page for Fallen Earth leaves me thinking it uses a class system.. I'm kind of worried it wll be like Anarchy Online, grind included. I hope it incorporates rules similar to planetside, maybe with an added crafting system and broader rules for weapons and armor.
Has anyone heard anything about this?
Comments
From what I've heard, its completely classless and uses FPS type combat. Non-combat skills will have to be learned, and no one will know what the next thing they can do will be until they can do it.
Consequently, the technology for a buggy car may not even be available for six months after the games launch until players discover the skills needed to create a buggy. ~Game Method Preview
Skills will resemble those in Ultima Online, with stuff like animal taming and weapon repair probably going to be in there.
Check out that preview, it has a lot in there.

Late 2005 launch . . . oh I'm gonna cry.
Fallen Earth seems to be trying to do everything to please every type of player. This is good, but it could also be bad. I hope that detail will be given to each and every aspect of the game.
From what it sounds like, much has already been completed, so I suppose that Icarus is devoting the time it needs to make it great all around.
The twitchy combat system will be fun, too. I suck at FPS games, though, so I hope that skills will help clumsy mouse and keyboard people like me . . .
Just like with everything else....we are just going to have to wait and see.
Perhaps we won't be disappointed. One can only hope...yes?
I just hope it doesnt turn into Daikatana Online.

Its better we wait for a good game then get a crappy game now, but I still would like it as soon as possible.
Pleasing every type player will be hard, but if they can do it, or get close without too many bugs or balancing problems then this could be one of the best games ever, not just one of the best MMOs ever. Of course, their name frightens me a little. If you try to fly to close to the sun, you may fall to your doom. Lets hope for the best
They are going with a full twich system I believe, which means that your character's skill may not help you much in combat. You might be able to get a few things to help you (night vision or the such) but not much else. So if you're not that good at FPS combat, you might want to train ( you have a year to do so), find some people to help you in combat, or just stay out all together. And I'm sure that PvE combat will be much easier than PvP, so you could just hunt animals and not worry about other people.

Just hope they don't pull a DE on us
Hearing how far they are along with development, my guess is we don't have to wait too long till beta and *cough* till the forums on the official site are up.
**Love post apoc**
Pull a DE?

I don't think we need to worry about it doing that.

The sword of light illuminates the dark. I am that light.
The sword of light illuminates the dark. I am that light.
I hope its not completely twitchy. I find it stupid when a battle is determined by who can keep the crosshair on the enemy the longest when running arround in a circle at unrealistic speeds jumping more times than humanly possible as opposed to more realistic ambush tactics...(think unreal tournament versus raven-shield or perhaps battlefield 1942)
I don't think this game will go under...it will be sad if it does though.
The only thing im wondering is why more games aren't using FPS style combat systems by now in the RPG genre.....
I may be wrong.. but I think it is simply because unless you have the very best servers(coinsdently the most expensive) FPS style games get very laggy, very fast. Part of that is client end, but it still has to do with there servers.
Hmmm... if only Bungie would market Halo 2's excellent network model to other companies... might help with the lag.
Anyways, the "click a target then spam the skills" model is easier on the server, because the server/client does not have to track the individual shots/spells, it just takes stats or whatever and calculates whether or not you hit.
With a FPS style enviroment, the server/client has to track player movemont, shot movement, all while making sure that the player is in the position the client says he/she is in, to do whatever action they want to do. Then multiply that by 1,000 or 10,000.
FPS style games are awesome... just with the current technology not feasible.
It is very iffy, because not only is it going to play like a FPS I believe it includes a physics model. If you know anything about multiplayer games, you'll know the inclusion of physics on the mp engine really hits performance a lot since the game is doing a lot of background calculations for it.
BUT
It's very possible that a privately funded game development studio has put all their cards into developing a proprietary engine and netcode that can handle what they are looking for. They havent wasted money on a PR campaign, they barely acknolwedge the fan base, so much as not having an official forum. The only contact we have is a newsletter. It's very likely in the 3 years they've been developing the game so far that they have put all their energy into getting this to work correctly.
They must know if they do exceed our expectations and dispell our doubts, that risky investment of theirs will definitely pay off. Don't worry too much -- they seem quite competant
They took alot of the design of this game from the independent project: www.conflictomega.com
How do you figure?

Gives a decent preview of that.
"Projective weapons are controlled with the mouse; simply, point and shoot."
Seems to indicate that it will not be a standard FPS interface.
