F'n drama queens... I mean seriously ... first of all you assume that the 2nd ammendment applies to everyone... If you are not from the US these guidlines may not apply...

I had the name 'Manimhigh' in WoW before, guess what, because the TOS doesn't like you to have a phrase in your name, it got forceably changed. I find your name, even though YOU ARE GAY, more offensive than 'Manimhigh'. Hell, I'm not even gay and I think it's a little over the top, why do you have to display that you are gay in a game? Is it really that big of a deal for you? If it is, you should start wearing as sign around your neck IRL that says "Queer guy here!". But I can see a point, because someone can be called 'Straight Cop' get no punishment what so ever.

Sorry if you cant understand that Queer is 90% derogatory... let me give you a slightly clearer example.
I have a few black friends. They call each other "Nigga" and other derivations of the word all the time, however, if I were to say whats up "Nigga" I might get in trouble.
Therefore, "Nigga" is a word that shouldnt be used in mixed or polite company. Its ok among friends and certain genders, but most will find it offensive. Changing the name isnt anti black people, its simply protecting others.
As for free speach, you have free speach all you want in the US but speach doesnt come with out consequences. You or more than welcome to go to your boss, and call him a douche bag and say what you would love to do to his hot daughter, however, you will be fired. Are you allowed to say what you like? Sure. Can you be punished for it? You betcha.
Being in the gaming business for a very long period of time bee it beta testing, Customer Support, or just as a player this is not something they are doing against you peronally no matter how you may feel. The reson this is done by gaming companies is they have no right to question anyones sexual orientation, religiuos pratices etc when you buy the game or when you sign up as a customer. Companies do this so the ones that would use names such as these to be derogitory, or use them in predjudice or hatred will not be allowed or tolerated. You have sit back and look at teh bigger picture it is not just you they have to look at, take WoW for example with 11 million customers, how would the staff of a game of magnitude ever be able to verify the sexual orientation of all 11 million customers to find out the legit and non legit useage of the name.
Just do not take it personally it is dont to protect you from slander and hatred not stop you from being proud, it is so 5 million "gay haters" do not create toons with such names to well hate on gay people. The generalization of the "when it is used in a derogatory way" is a protective measure and as I have already mentioned, how can a company who has any ethics in it's business sence ask a player if they are gay or not?, it cannot as this will set forth a sence that they are screening out "gay" players or "non gay" players.
Just accept the name change and be glad there are major companies that actually care about protecting their customers from such abuse instead of just turning a blind eye to it and letting the haters hate.

If you want to go that route well, queer also has other meanings then referance to the gay community.
Something tells me this "gay" gamer is only "gay" so he can be dramatic and edgy all the time. But straight isn't a derogatory word. Queer is used in such a way. Any word can be said in a derogatory manner, but it doesn't really matter unless the target group responds or takes offense to it.
The true issue really stems from people being over-sensitive to words.

To be perfectly honest if i had saw the name i would have reported it as well, and no i am not some homophob or just hate gay people. There are two simple reasons
Reason One: Most people find that name offensive, even a good chunk of the gay population would find it offensive. As mentioned in many many posts.
Reason Two: There will be KIDS playing this game, now mind you i do not nor do i ever want to have kids but there are some things kids should not see or be bombarded with. Now yes the arguement will be said its not our place to be the parent and the parents should know what the kids are doing and seeing blah blah blah. Now mind you i agree with the statement that i am not the kid/s parents and shouldnt have to worry about what they see or what not but i am an adult that sees no reason to actualy go out and do something as lame brained as naming a char you KNOW people are going to find distasteful.

That you were able to chassé for years named a certain way in another game is arguable. As these are two different games, two different companies, different modus operandi.

Just FYI the only people that says things like that are the Japanese, because they dont have a pronounciation of the L sound the closest they come to is the R which if you speak Japanese fluent it makes sense kinda. And to tell you the truth, I am offended because some people generalize that all asians speak this way.
This is something the OP really needs to understand. Although it might not offend some people, there will always be other people of that "orientation" that will get offended.

What difference does it make. Everyone seems to use any word that references us, as insults. Gay, ghey, queer, fag, faggot, puffta, homosexual, homo, mo, so on and so forth have either been used against me or against others in an insulting way. None of them have a good connotation anymore if they ever did. I've learned to just automatically ignore haters, but I sometimes wonder how you guys would react if it became common to use the words "straight" or "hetero" as a curse or as a reference to something that is stupid.
I'm fairly certain they block the name because they're more worried about offending straights or Christians than anyone who is Gay.
With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough".
