I honestly don't play WoW or any mmo that much anymore but when i do log in the server is always busy as hell no matter where i go. This is just a poor troll post.
Unless someone from Blizzard shows you their subscription history, you have no way of knowing what their situation is. Common sense says that logging on for a few minutes is not a good way to observe a population over time. And if there numbers are lower, and you come here to gloat, then that speaks volumes about your character...or lack of it.
Actually I think the main issue is... and I point this out in the random threads people make about "my name is taken and the toon hasn't been logged in for a year and the account is NOT active.."
You can have an account .. pay for it and not log in. So actually logging into a game or even if you can track how many people DO log in..
Tells you one thing. It tells you how many people ARE LOGGING IN.
The only way to know how many people pay for a game.. is to have access to actual subscription records.
I personally have no clue one way or the other what Blizzard's subscriber base is at. I know the games division (due to WoW) has reported profits/record profits EVERY quarter. Even Q1 2009 they actually performed better than expected AND still made a profit. Not many companies you heard about actually reported a Q1 '09 profit.
You can watch those numbers... when you start to see the Quarterly financials drop in the games division.. then they have lost subscribers. Its far more accurate than any of the methods normally used in posts here (ie: Xfire, loggig in or some random chart site).
Note: If you don't understand the above. Every quarter they are required to release financials. Every Quarter they talk about the game division in those financials. It is ILLEGAL to lie on the financial disclosures. People who do NOT pay a subscription do NOT make financials go higher. Even if they do lie on their financials and don't get caught or have a share holder complain to the trade commission... it won't make them have that non existent money to do payroll etc with...
lol 6mil gone.. ok but how cute is it that he left out WHY .. the reason for CHINA not playing wow for... well CANT play .. what its been a month now.. LMAO. OLD NEWS>. Dont worry they will be back soon when Blizzard fixes it.. Yep and AION had nothing to do with it. And what is this DEAD server you are playing on? Were SW is dead? So when Aion comes out.. I log in.. city empty.. OMG where did everyone go?? Anyway.. nice try.. I like how you see a troll post and that = a fan?wow ok.. oops I said wow.. I'm a FANBOY!
He has a point, in Korea. There Aion totaly ganked Wow but the market is very different there and the most popular Blizzard game isn't even Wow there, it is still Starcraft. But Asian games are not that popular in the west and while Aion might take away some players it will be few compared to wows number. Wows hard future competitioners will be games made by ex Blizzard employes like Guildwars 2 and Copernicus. TOR will also compete but it will not take many players since Bioware and Blizzard fans are not the same type of players.
All that said, Wow is slowly losing players. The game is 5 years old and people quits slowly so it will still have millions of players for years unless something unexpected happens. But of course can no game keep up its number of players for ever, Blizzard know this and therefor they moved their best guy (Kaplan) to the top of their next MMO.
Nothing lasts forever, and anyone believing that are not thinking straight.
Upon visiting an old friend I saw he still had time on wow being he cancelled the account much as I had done months ago. So I deecided to go in and take a look-see to see if it was true that many people have left. Yes It's true.
First off, when I logged in to one of my old accounts
I havn't played WoW in years, but can you now log into old toons frome someone elses account?

Oh I agree that WOW is slowing down alot. You can always log into a server thats low and then post.. OMG WOW is dead.. dying.. blah blah
If WOW just up and died.. We wont see another MMO like WOW that can keep MILLIONS 5 years later. Like you said.. I think Blizzard knows .. there very smart and if something took the attention away from WOW.. I dont think they would really care. They are working on their next MMO. I lol think everyone is like.. OK we are tired of WOW.. NEXT in line please.
Plus your friends list tells nothing. if you have only one friend and he leaves, are you gonna be like "omg, there's no one on the server!"?? or "everyone quit!!"?? if a character no longer exists, either he quit (sadly) or he transferred servers. for me, 80% of the time it's transferring servers cause you'd find him on another server. it doesnt mean that WoW is dying or anything.
plus SW is like empty town now, its becoming like Darnassus. try IF, or definitely Dalaran cause Dala is jammed packed full.
Last night, someone came on and said "OMG WoW is dying!!" "This server is boring...there's no one." about almost everyone in IF and Dala told him to GTFO our server...
so try playing a little longer instead of jumping in for 5 secs and saying that WoW is dying. I've seen it many times already, too many people who log on, play a little bit and say it sucks, it's dying, w/e.
Hmm blizzcon is coming up, they are still making more money then any other mmo out there, even with out china (china didn't matter anyways right? thats what all the people that hate WoW would say)
Hell looks like Ozzy with Zakk wylde is gonna play at blizzcon it was on zakks twitter or blog or whatever.
Yeah i think blizz is doing just fine, did the game touch you in the bad place?
i don't get how anyone can possibly think Blizz/WoW is falling rofl. Sure they pretty much hit the peak player base but i mean comeon it took the game almost 5 years to do that most games hit their peak at most a year after launch.
Just seems like a whiny angry emo post. "Oh my friends quit WoW so it must be failing." Wrong. MAybe your friends quit Wow to get away from you? I know I would.
Note to the OP - for everyone of your friends that quit, two more players joined the game that you don't know to take their place. The game is doing *just* fine!
Exactly....peoples lives change and many move on to other responsibilities. There are new fresh recruits in the ranks...the recently mmo enlightened....the recently retired...and the come of agers are there to take the places of the fallen. Wish all you want...WoW is not going anywhere soon. Also...maybe the OP friends just didn't want to hear any more whineing so they log on under different names or servers. Face it...they're just not that into you.
Note to the OP - for everyone of your friends that quit, two more players joined the game that you don't know to take their place. The game is doing *just* fine!
This ^^^ WOW battlechest continues to be in the top 20 of all game sales. That means a ton of new players are coming in. To put it in comparison, both AOC and Warhammer dropped out of the top 100 within 2 months of launch. WOW is still top 20 and has been every week for almost 5 years.
Also, I don't know about your server, but my server (Fenris) has a queue almost every friday and saturday night, and the few weeks after a patch, there is a queue even on weekdays.
Just because a game has less subs, doesn't mean it is less of a game. That was my point in the phrase. I personally have played games with a fraction of WoW's that are a lot better. They will be just fine with 5 mill. subs as far has money goes.
Thats true many good games don't have a million even. But this thread is mainly about rubbing it in the face of those who said wow would be the top MMORPG until 2016 or so. WoW is just not the perfect mmo for many people. EQ and WoW left pvp high and dry and for the detractors saying that class balance is not possible blizz PR BS go play GW or AC or even L2... crap go play half the asian grinders out there who somehow managed class balance... but anyway. It's old and many of us just don't care for the glorified chat room wow has become. Its just not very social, or interactive mainly you geargrind in a dungeon with people you Hate and never interact with the player base since Instances are IT in wow. I mean seriously if you want a 5 to 10 player party game just go by an old Copy of Icewind Dale, or Neverwinter nights and get some dungeon mods.. your all set then... really whats the difference?
I mean the format is ok and all but the saturation of wow clones has left us high and dry on other mmo types, there are not enough games like EVE or RYZOM out there. And every new wow clone makes you more and more sick of the template.
BTW will not touch AION looks like MU online with better graphics... wont go through that hell again.

Sure you are entitled to your view. But pretending you are talking on behalf of a lot of people. Come on.
Given your attitude, the rude way you talk, the bashy flashy personality, its not surprising you find yourself not very welcome, and that you do not interact well with PUGs or raid members. If you have problems while million others are doing better, maybe the solution is in a mirror. Can you find one?

ridiculous! Lineage 2? That is your example of class balance? WoW is a glorified chat room? Not enough games like Eve or Ryzom? Have you ever played either? Eve is great and but niche game there is not an audience big enough for another EvE. Ryzom is also a great game but has never been a real success. That is why it has changed hands. So you would rather have L2 and Ryzom clones then WoW clones? Seems to me people scream for change then when a company tries it these same people do not support the effort. Remember Seed, Auto Assault, Tabula Rasa, Asheron's Call 2, and many more. You want change you have to support the developers efforts.
You seem to be blaming WoW for the fact you do not have an mmo you like. You are part of the problem. Did you subscribe and play Ryzom? I did for 3 years. Did you subscribe to Asheron's Call 2? It was a really great game but no one played it, where were you? You scream change and WoW clones are everywhere, but do you support the games that are different? Named me five WoW clones since there are so many out there. I hear this stuff all the time. People crying about all the WoW clones. Start naming them. I do not see any game that is just like WoW or a clone, that so many love to claim are saturating the market. Maybe Runes of Magic could be considered a WoW clone. Aion is like MU online? Do you even know anything about Aion? We are left high and dry? There have never been so many choices for mmos fans ever. You might join us in a little place I like to call "reality".
I read so many threads here and wonder how many people who post actually play mmos and follow the industry. Not many based on some of the stuff people say. I think many people's first and only experience is WoW but somehow they are experts on the mmo world. It really began in 1996 with Meridian 59, the first 3d mmo, not 2004 with WoW.

Well I can take personal attacks from rabid fanbois all day long if thats what you intend to do. As for what wow clones can I name, maybe you missed WAR, or are just not intelligent enough to know it's an obvious pvp clone version of wow. I find that hard to believe given your obvious name dropping techniques you must know what your talking about. That or your just masking your disdain for negative wow postings, which is totally believable since your post in effect said nothing, I'm sure that was on purpose though. A clever ruse to draw me away from what you were really thinking, you just failed to type any of it down....yeh that has to be it.
Anyway back to wow clones since you of course played them all but just want to know that you know that I know that you know they are actually clones. AOC another wow clone tired a few different things but really its the same diablo talent system with swing timers. Then Allods, Runes of Magic, Neo Steam, Rappelz, Ether Saga, 4 Story, Perfect World, Silkroad.. to greater and lesser degrees, there are more, but you can really fill a page with them. And your challenging me to name ONE.. really? Are you dense?
And yes there are MMOs that I like but most of them are getting pretty dated now, but lets not forget what your little hissy fit retorts are really about, putting me in a defensive position to derail the Forum topic at hand. Mainly dealing with the very attitudes you and your little friend above show when wow is challenged in Any way. Nothing you said proves anything there is no argument to what you said. It's the very thing you accuse me of, just on the opposite end of the spectrum. Where were all these friendly attitudes when WoW had 11 mil subs and any critics were met with 11mil nuf said followed by a mad hateful rant masked in the guise of concern, much like yours was.
And how the hell do you have any idea what game I support or don't? Buddy unless me and you are sharing an account I don't know about, you don't know crap. But I don't make groups or guild up with whiny defensive crybabies so the chances you will ever find out are fairly slim. The first thing I said was many good games dont have a million players, but you seem to think that means something else.
AC2 was Greeeeeeeeeat if your computer didnt crash trying to run it, not as buggy as Dark and Light but it really really tried to be. Whatever your seal of quality on games is, it's obviously not based on playability.. maybe the character portraits and lore? As for where I was I was saving my machine the glory of having my hard drive wiped on that POS you seem to love so much, AC1 it is not. That stupid comment alone is enough to discredit most of your useless jibber.

I get it, this is a Michael Jackson reference isn't it? Just couldn't help it could you?
At least I Hope you were going for that and not just making a typical high school idiot remark.
I am all for people venting some MMO frustration (especially when it is directed at WoW) but at least make sensible coherent points... not silly drivel you try to pass off as fact.
Yes the subs have dwindled (as mentioned namely due to the china <working as intended>) and the lack luster tradgedy of an affair they had with the hardcore gamers. This is undeniable. However, complaining about nerfs and how it is all they ever do... I have found quite the contrary... WoW has a tendancy to OP certain classes/specs at different times, and unfortunately it may be at the same time that your specific class/spec that was OP is getting balanced. This makes it feel like a nerf... Not saying they don't flat out swing their nerf sticks every now and then- but every class in that game is completely silly with the amount of versatility they have been badgered into giving every class.
Fact is WoW will not go quietly into that good night, though many of its best players have left it. The younger generation of aspiring gamers and older casuals will keep WoW alive and kicking for quite some time.
Actually, if populations in Stormwind are lower across the board, it would indicate the number of new players joining the game is starting to fall.
Sure Dahlaran might be full, that would be expected, but it could mean the game is no longer replacing every player that left on a 2/1 basis.
The fall in subs has to come eventually, but there will be a lag of 3-6 months before anyone will be able to really confirm, sort of like inflation in an economy.

Personnel attack? Not even. Rabid fanboy? Not even. I have been on these form for a longtime now and have been called a lot. Mostly a SOE fanboi but not once have I been called a WoW fanboi that is a first. Point to one thing that I said that was a personnel attack, I do not know you from adam. All I have done was ask you a few questions. The last paragraph of my post was not directed at you it was a general comment about what I often read on these forums. Why don't you post the names of the games you actually like and explain how they are different and not WoW clones. Or explain how WoW has fallen. You might talk about what makes the games you like so good. You seem use a lot of "useless jibber" but do not actually say much. You got me good with "useless jibber, rabid fanboi, dense, buddy, whiney defenseless crybaby, hissy fits. Good job! Calling someone a fanbois is the oldest most useless way to defend your point on these forums when you really do not have a defense.
You say WAR is a WOW clone? Have you played WAR? It is nothing like WoW. All the main mmos out now have familiar aspects, that hardly makes them clones. As far as your L2 comment. Have you played L2 much? All I said is L2 classes are hardly balanced or at least were not when I quit about a year ago.
Asheron's Call 2 was a great stable game. Just because you have technical issues with it does not me I did. Crashing was never a problem. The lack of players was the problem. As far as your WoW clone list. The Allods (never played it, I make it a point on these froums not to comment on games I do not have experience with). Runes of Magic, as I said before a WoW clone. I have played all the other games you mentioned and none feel like a WoW clone. When did I say I love Asheron's Call 2? I said it was a great game. When did I say I loved any games mentioned here. I simple responded to a ridiculous thread say WoW has fallen. Many already pointed out the OP had no clue what he was talking about.
Your right I do not know crap about you do I? Not sure after reading your posts I would want to. You get attacked a lot on these forums I would bet. That is why you responded to my post with such anger, you probably get it all the time. Now, I do not sit next to you at your computer so nope I do not really know this to be fact but I think it is. Yup I did call your comment on L2 ridiculous, in my opinion it is and seems ill informed. Why would I derail this thread. I am not a fanboi and if you know my history I hardly ever post on the WoW forums. However, if you shared my accounts and sat here with me watching my posts you would know this.
"Buddy" nothing in my post was a rabid fanbois personnel attack at you. I could actually careless about you, I was responding to statements I found untrue and in at least one case ridiculous. By the way I am not your "buddy" and do we need a genius to point out that none of us actually know "crap" about any of the rest of us at these froums. See pretty obvious.
To the OP: if there is a concern about the health of a game, or the sub levels or profit levels, Blizz and WoW is the last to worry about. Thank you for the warning, but I think its just a few years too early. Bring this up 5 years later and try again. Maybe.
Please, in 5 years Wow will have 100K subs like EQ. No one plays 10 years old computer games, or at least almost no one.
If you think any game can be the biggest forever you are living in the same fantasy world as a poor girl I met who tatooed "Hansom forever" on herself.
the game might or might not started to drop in subs right now, not counting the asian ones where chinas boycot and Aion have dropped the subs but it will eventually because computer games gets really old sooner or later. And the fact that Blizzard moved Kaplan to their next game points to that direction also, they moved their best guy to the future game because they also know that Wow can't last forever, nothing does.
It doesn't matter how much anyone loves a game, you must still realise that computer games have a best for date. and even if Wow havn't lost any western players yet it have stopped expanding now, no longer do Blizzard announced that the player base has grown to X millions.
Wow will still be a game with millions of players for the next 2 years or so but it will start dropping, if not now then soon. And it have nothing with hating the game to see that, it is justhow all computer games ever works. And it is good also or you would be playing Meridian 59 instead of Wow.
Both Blizzard and other devs are right now working on the next MMOs. If Blizzard thought Wow would be as big in 5 years as now they would not bother but work to expand Wow instead.

I honestly don't play WoW or any mmo that much anymore but when i do log in the server is always busy as hell no matter where i go. This is just a poor troll post.

It is true that WoW is loosing people. at the same time it's gaining people as well so I think WoW will be fine for the next few years.
One of my friends quit, at the same time, another came back and yet another just started. so in my personal friendship life, WoW gained +1 new player.
WoW is still considered #1.
I've seen it many times already, too many people who log on, play a little bit and say it sucks, it's dying, w/e.
good day sir.

Yeah i think blizz is doing just fine, did the game touch you in the bad place?
yeah its still posted on his twitter twitter.com/ZakkWyldeBLS

i don't get how anyone can possibly think Blizz/WoW is falling rofl.
I came back after taking a break for a few months and my server, Lothar, seems just as busy as it was before.
Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.
Made a seperate thread due to the fact that it was a bit off topic.
"The person who experiences greatness must have a feeling for the myth he is in."

LOL, totally agreed
ridiculous!

LOL
I get it, this is a Michael Jackson reference isn't it? Just couldn't help it could you?
At least I Hope you were going for that and not just making a typical high school idiot remark.
I can find a mirror can you find Wits?
ALL YOUR PLAYER BASE ARE BELONG TO KITTY!

By the way I am not your "buddy" and do we need a genius to point out that none of us actually know "crap" about any of the rest of us at these froums. See pretty obvious.
