I get so tiered of hearing how people didn't play D&DO because it was like a pay version of Guild Wars.
The only thing that is like Guild Wars is Instances. That’s it. Game Play, Story, Controls, Leveling, Experience system, Artwork, ALL NOTHING like Guild Wars. D&DO is unlike the majority of MMO's out there
People should give it a chance. Characters each have their own abilities that help a party in very different ways, unlike 99% of the MMO's out there with their cookie cutter characters that are all the same with only little Differences. In D&DO you could miss things in a Dungeon if you don't have a certain class in your group. Miss secret doors, miss whole areas because of Traps, Can't get into some doors because the Rune lock requires High Int, Wis, or Str to open. You can make it through without them, but could be much different with them.
I don't think D&DO is the best game out there, But it is in my top 3. Unique classes, combat, and game play to me makes it stand out more than most. Now that it is becoming FTP I hope people will see this MMO for what it is. A Great game that is not a Cookie Cutter MMO

I don't believe people have tried one or both long enough (if at all) to appreciate the differences (which to be honest doesn't take that long), they see instances latch on to it because it doesn't require any depth of thinking, and make uneducated statements.
Typical forum fluff really.
Anyone who said the two games were alike obviously did not play them both.
Played guild wars aWHILE.Never got a chance to try dungeons & dragons from what you say completely different but who says guild wars is the same as ALL the mmos out there. Both games have some interesting differences to attract different play styles.Guild Wars for strategetic minds and for dungeons & dragons explorers who like to find secrets.
Like pong i keep bouncing back and forth between games.
DDO is not really for explorers looking to find secrets.
Hmm, that way DDO is for those who like GW too . But really, yes, it's not only that GW is PvP based and DDO is PvE based. There's so much more to this.
I've played Guild Wars some time, bought those new Addons (Nightfall, for instance). But comparing experiences, I can understand why people think GW is not much MMO-like. DDO feels much more MMO, to be honest. Even without open world vide WoW.

When people compare this game to gw they are comparing the payment models and the heavy use of instancing that is all. So all you guys are missing the point of the comparisons. People don't see the need to pay a sub for ddo because Arenanet does not charge a sub for gw. Which is very valid reasoning although you do get large content updates on ddo.
It's not valid at all, I think. If you'd pay for old Van the same way as you'd pay for Porche or a Yacht, it's really too much to say it can be compared.
GW offers much less in my opinion, with all the sympathy to that game - I like it still. But it's more like a PvP global arena, not much depth to it. And certainly not roleplay... Can't compare DDO community to that of Arena.Net. Different worlds.

No they are not. When someone says why pay for DDO when I can get the same game for free with GW they are simply wrong and or misinformed. Comparing them that way is wrong. Two games using instancing does not in any way shape or form make them similar games unless they are actually similar and with over 2 years in each I simply fail to see any similarity after the fact both use instancing. By using that I can compare every open world MMO to any open world F2P and be right, of course that would be a stupid way to compare them and while I may be argumentative I am not stupid.

To me GW feels more like a huge MMo type world even though it is instanced. Starting with the fact there are way more people in the game at any time making finding people to do things easier. Yes it tended to attract a less sophisticated crowd then a DDO does, but to me GW feels like a fuller and more complete game then DDO. GW has tons to do for PVE and the PVP was actually fun for me unlike DDOs.

Once again, this is my point. The only things they have in common are Instancing. Other than that, they are a completely different type of game. It's comparing apples to oranges. I am not putting GW down, I like the game, but the comparison stops at instancing. D&DO is a unique game and its subs pay for constant updating, mods, and an ever changing world, witch is something GW does NOT offer.
