Why would you pay to play a game thats still in alpha stage?

I think their honesty about the current state of the game makes it OK.  People know pretty much what they are paying for.  If it were a situation where they are claiming the game is feature complete and that turned out to be a lie, then that would be different.

For this game and developer I wouldn't do it.  I'm not particularly interested in it and I'd be too concerned about it being vaporware.  If it gets good reviews after launch, I may check it out.

If SW:TOR offered me a chance to buy the game right now and beta test, I'd probably do it...mainly because I don't have a MMO right now that's compelling enough for me to play it instead of beta testing TOR.

I payed for the boxed edition. I did it for a couple of reasons.

    1. I like pre-ordering a game that I have been following a long time and am interested in. With the pre-order I am assured that I will have a copy of the game the day the game goes live.

    2. I like the little added bonuses that come with the pre-order. The slight rewards I recieve from the developer, in this case, that are not open to everyone else at this time. In this case the biggest thing I am looking for is the opportunity to be in the Block A round of beta invites. I enjoy being in betas. Being able to stress test servers, report bugs and glitches that affect my particular set up and overall help make the game better before launch is vary satisfing.

If I wasn't content with these reasons I would not put my money down.
