Agreed about the 75 bucks but it is the pre-order price. If you can wait until after the game is released and download it digitally you can probably find it a lot cheaper. A friend actually paid more in a store for a newly released Wow in '94.
The $22 a month however is not as bad as the way Champions online will do, $15 and a cash shop is a lot more expensive. If the game is good I can easily pay those $7 extra from other games.

After seeing what others have done i dont feel so bad about paying $5 to play in the Aion beta. Thanks guys for making an old skinflint feel frugal once again.
Aion has been developed by a major developing powerhouse. Next to that, it is already paying for it's own costs in the east. No wonder they can swap in an almost free beta. (Also that beta period will probably be much shorter than the MO one since it mainly concerns localizing an already released game).
Indy devs on their first product have a much harder time to make ends meet. Like I wrote before; I love to be able to support a new fish in the pond with great and fresh ideas, both with a little money and as a tester.
But I can understand why you feel that you got a great bargain You got to see things in perspective, though.
I dont know what you think beta is but I am a software developer and beta is PRE COMMERCIAL. Meaning that you usually dont get a dime for allowing testers beta test it, sometimes you even have to PAY professional testers to do that. So really, get out of the fanboy swamp before you sell your house and give the money to Starvault.
Besides YOU love to be able to give money to work for someone (yes testing is work) but most people do not.

I'm sure that MO is the game that I want, so I get the decission to preorder so I can go in beta and be helfull for the game developement. I'm glad to hear that the price was stopped from purchase many players. There will be digital download later so ppls that are not prety sure about the game will come in game just before the release when everything in game will much better.

When you make a new thread on this; please explain how the price tags came to be. - Vat / taxes - Manufacturing and distribution of a relatively low amount of boxes = huge costs for each single box - Boxes and Full Loot Bags weren't intended for the big mass waiting to join at launch; they will get the option to buy a digital download which might even be cheaper than avarage! Boxes and Collector's editions were made on request from fans; naturally AV will not cary the additional costs involved. - The boxes were a huge investment to make for an indy dev and they want them off the shelves and sold a.s.a.p.; hence the beta privilege. Bottom line: Boxes and Bags aren't made to make a proffit on. Collectors editions in general aren't. They were made for the fans.

Exactly.
But to get those costly boxes of their shelves as soon as possible they coupled them to pre-orders with an added beta privilige.
Yamota might be a software developer but he doesn't understand a thing about marketing let alone the particular financial situation SV might be in as an indy dev. They might need every penny they have and having a couple of thousand boxes on your shelves is a big waste of money for them. I fully understand their reasoning. Besides, the pricetags of the digital download / subscription are something he should complain about at his government or the EU though in my mind they are completely reasonable compared to many other mmorpgs.
Bottom line; get the digital download if you think the box costs too much, and wait for the first reviews if you want to be sure what you buy. Don't throw hissy fits because you think limited editions (because that is what they both are) are too expensive.

I'll just re-post this from other thread i've post it, it fits the situation as well.
Hmmm, i ussually won't post anything but.....
Temptation is, well.... i just have to get this out of my chest.
So finally, some idiotic guy, perhaps while he was smoking, came with the idea "Hey, let's charge a ridiculous amount for the game we're still doing, and mascarade it as "exclusivity, super hyped, with super *cough* advantages".
"...So mister president with my idea we just not only get some cashflow but in the event the beta crashes and burns the company will end with some nickels in the pocket.
And if everything goes smoothly well... we got some funding for our development courtesy of the dear fanboys..."
I'm amazed how this type of marketing non-sense can lure people to pay for a freakign BETA!, not only the company benefits from beta playes who spen their time finding bugs, etc etc...but now if it wasn't enough they go, and for the sake of "Coolness", "exclusivity", and "whatever you like" they rip out the pockets of those players too.
FOR CRYING OUT LOUD PEOPLE! are you guys so desperated?!?!?!? to pay for a thing that should be free?, you know not so long ago companies had to invest to get their merchandise going to magazines, publishers..etc etc.. now you guys pay for even the shipping costs.
It's outrageous, if this is the road, well my friends, i must say it ends with the public funding entirely the games, yes, no more cash from corps, they'll find the way to lure peopl eonto funding at least part of games.
Bleh.... this is just nonsense. Where are we heading in our gaming selves.

They are not making any bigger profits on the box, silly billy. Like it has been explained a thousand times before;
- having these boxes produced in low numbers = a relatively huge cost per box (even in China) In that sense you should see the box as a limited edition as well.
- VAT, shipping to Sweden, shipping to customer.
- fans asking for a boxed version / collector's eddition
All in all, it has been a huge investment for SV but they complied with the wish of their fans. Now they need to get those boxes of their shelves as soon as possible without having to end up paying for their production themselves. How do you manage that? Throw in a carrot; pre-order + beta limited to boxed versions initially. Smart thinking, and not to cash in on, but to cover their OWN EXPENSES.
Bandwagon jumpers like yourself should stop whining and get the digital download if you eventually read some reviews which appeal to you. At least don't bother to cry foul on something where the loyal fanbase itself has been asking for all along.
Makes perfect sense to me that exactly that group gets to play that coveted beta as well.

No thanks, 1st person view is laziness. You should just downlad the "Age of Chivelry HL 2 mod, same thing , and its free and fun.
So, why are you wasting your own time on this board then, hmmm? We all know that is not subject to change ...
I think people are more concerned about the game pricing itself out of the market. I can't see many people buying a game that is 50% more expensive than the benchmark WoW. WoW is a Corvette and MO is pricing itself at Ferarri prices before it is proven.

That is because they are comparing a costly, limited edition box to a standard, massively produced and distributed box. And they tend to forget about VAT and shipping ... the digital download at launch will be similarly or lower priced than current games. How's that for you?
Pre-orders charge you when the game is shipped, not when the pre-order was made. MO charged me when I made the pre-order, hence I am paying for the beta.

It's on its way to you right now. This is exactly how they said it would work. If you can't read it isn't their fault. They were very up front and honest about how all of this would go down.

I cant find any information for a pre-order on their webpage, I can only find where you buy the game and the site clearly states that the physical products will be shipped in September.

Touche! People assume too much and dont actually read what they have said, they explained exactly how its going to work, if you still cant understand, dont buy it, buying without understand the process and then whining about will not change anything and its certainly not their fault the information is all layed out for you.

You pay for the game not for the beta...
Oh yes you're paying for the BETA!, 20$ and 75& for the game including shipping.
So do the math.
Aion has been developed by a major developing powerhouse. Next to that, it is already paying for it's own costs in the east. No wonder they can swap in an almost free beta. (Also that beta period will probably be much shorter than the MO one since it mainly concerns localizing an already released game).

No, you pay for the boxed version of the game and all the expansions.... and the price and shipping costs have all been explained before...

They are not making any bigger profits on the box, silly billy. Like it has been explained a thousand times before;
- having these boxes produced in low numbers = a relatively huge cost per box (even in China) In that sense you should see the box as a limited edition as well.

Really? Where is my game in that case?
