Would you prefer if they wore pantsuits and loafers? The females only show claws when they don't have the *gasp* high heel boots on btw. The males are different but I don't see why any of this is a big deal to you. Might want to stay away from draenei in WoW cause they have hooves which are very much like these high heels of which you speak.
Of course, I wasn't saying Korean's were the only ones with high-heeled media. I remember seeing it in Guild Wars... ACTUALLY, I remember now, if you took your shoes off in Guild Wars your female would actually come up with this freaky white part because she wore high-heels. Maybe it is a NCsoft thing, I don't know, but this obsession for high-heels must have come from somewhere. But Aion + Guild Wars, I have never seen other games that demanded the use of high-heels like these two have. I'm just asking why.... Not complaining, just wondering why and where this thing exists in these two games.
You do realise that Guildwars is an american game made by the same team who made Warcraft 3, right. NC soft is only publishing it for them, like Eidos do with AoC and they cant affect how things look in it.
They can of course copy it, but the artist from Arenanet is french if I remember it right, or possibly french canadian and the lead dev that makes all the calls did the same for Diablo.
It is very possible that NC have stolen some style from A-net or are influenced about it, but much of it is coming from Linage2.

Ok a lot of people are confused about this. Yes, Guild Wars was Developed by ArenaNet.

High heels work fine as long as you walk in a place that is hard and straight. But many ladys were them all the time so I don't see a big problem with it unless all female boots have them.
Every outfit and every single boot/shoes I have found has high heels. I do think that this is kinda of silly but this is not a deciding factor on whether I will continue playing the game. ie I am willing to write this off as just a foreign art style.
My biggest worry is linear questing and high consumable usage which matter a heck of alot more.
god the trolls really are clutching at straws now aint they
And I just don't understand why. There are many shitty things about this game to keep them busy for months...

Sorry but if the only way women can be sexy and feminine for you is to have high-heels then you have serious problems.

The high heels in this game are merely the direction that NCSoft chose to go. Of all of the Koreans that I have known, very few (only one that I can think of) have worn high heels. From what I have seen with my friends, the female focus on height in Korea is no different than the focus on height from other cultures. That is to say, if you feel short compared to everyone else then you may feel a little uncomfortable.
Like women in the U.S. a Korean woman may or may not choose to wear high heels as a part of their formal attire.
The only possible exception that I know of would be for guys. Korean women generally see being tall as an attractive trait, so if you're a short Korean guy then you have yourself an uphill battle.
I call em how I see em.
Being around Dutch women much of the time, I'm used to tall women (I'm not tall though, so don't think I have anything against being short and hence have shorter legs) and long legs, so that has to be stated as my personal context. Of course they still wear high heels (on special occasions, etc, but not every single day going to work though or while doing a martial art @_@), but like others have noted I don't see them adding them to a game as shoes while beating people up and running around (even though they would hurt of course if you used them to kick, but a part from that...).

Does it make them look sexy? Yes.
Does it make them seem feminine? Yes.
Is that the only way to achieve this? No. Besides, nowhere in my sentence do I back that up as being the only way. I'm careful of what I type before I hit "Post Message" but still sometimes idiots like you try and come off as high-mighty all-knowing by putting words into people's mouths.
And you're in NO position to judge wether someone has "serious problems" based on his or her opinion. Remember many of these views are also culturally bound.

Lol ironic. You specifically state that you are careful yet you jump to silly and moronic conclusions that people that disagree with you are idiots?
Considering YOU were the one that also jumped to the conclusion that I disliked high-heels in general, which was even more moronic considering I pretty much gave off the impression in my first posts that I wasn't against women using them in life (but rather the unrealistic and impracticality of them in battle). So how you pulled that crap out of your arse, I really don't know... Hypocrite much?
If you honestly did not think that high-heels wasn't the only way, then why did you state it? Why didn't you state it while also specifically acknowledging that is was only ONE way that game creators could make women sexy and feminine?
Why the sarcasm? I was very careful with my first post, I NEVER stated I had anything against high-heels I was just wondering why they included them in a game that is based on war. Yet you failed to completely answer my questions and instead assumed that I thought high-heels were unattractive. While just being plain nasty (while nasty, it really showed a lot, since sarcasm is the lowest form of wit) about it because you DID assume that for some reason I was an idiot (since you noted it in the quoted post), why would you do this?
I personally believe what makes a women feminine has more to do with personality rather then having anything to do with high-heels, of course it may make them look more physically feminine BUT the core definition of FEMININITY has to do with how one acts more so then anything else.
Either way, to my point of my first reply. The 'only way' was referring to the fact that women can still be feminine and sexy in battle or in a game without wearing unrealistic shoes that would lead them to an early death if it was at all realistic and my points about defining women's femininity and sexiness in different was based on that fact.
So with the knowledge of that thinking (that high-heels aren't the only way to define a woman, and that my creation of the topic was based on the need to put high-heels on women for some reason since they DON'T make women more feminine), you interrupt with your troll post and state "How dare they try and make the female avatars sexy and feminine!"... As you can see, it is obviously that I replied back to you with the way I did, and if you cannot see (and I wouldn't be surprised if you did fail to understand, or in the most likely case choose to lie about understanding) then you truly fail as a person.
But you seem to have missed my point and posted a troll anyway while still claiming that you make sure you don't post anything incriminating against yourself within your own posts. But we all know you completely failed and seem to contradict yourself extremely well.
EDIT:
And fyi, if you weren't a moron you would have read that I specifically stated that I wanted to know why Korean's felt the need for high-heels on women while doing battle, so if you actually perceived what I wrote then you would have known that I was aware of 'culturally bound' subjectivity. But alas, you just decided to troll post sarcastic rubbish rather then actually think anything through.
"Lol ironic. You specifically state that you are careful yet you jump to silly and moronic conclusions that people that disagree with you are idiots?"
"you DID assume that for some reason I was an idiot (since you noted it in the quoted post), why would you do this?"
No, it's just that the 'serious problems' bit struck a nerve. You came off judgmental and I reciprocated which I shouldn't have. Am I apologetic for it atm? No.
"Considering YOU were the one that also jumped to the conclusion that I disliked high-heels"
Nowhere did I say that. Try again.
"but rather the unrealistic and impracticality of them in battle"
If this were about real life then yes.
I gave my "sarcastic" comment on the point of view of it being a...game. And now to make yourself look good you're trying to drag the subject in the light of it being used in real life situations too. What?!
"While just being plain nasty (while nasty, it really showed a lot, since sarcasm is the lowest form of wit)"
You're not doing poorly either. Chapeau.
"The 'only way' was referring to the fact that women can still be feminine and sexy in battle or in a game without wearing unrealistic shoes that would lead them to an early death if it was at all realistic"
No, you were putting words in my mouth.
Back on topic: the blog was completely about the game. Your OP is about the game. Not real life battle. The game.
So since we're talking about...the game let us see why do these mean ol' Koreans decided to make the in-game females go through hell by wearing high heels.
It started out as a very Western beauty concept.
Dating back to the Middle Ages women wore high heels as a fashion statement and to increase their short height.
Since then it has pretty much stayed a fashion statement. It was also synonymous with great wealth. So men were in on this too...
It has come and gone throughout the 1800s and the 1900s and finally achieving a perpetual association with femininity.
Our world has grown tighter thanks to the media and internet and I can see how even an Asian developer has adopted certain points of view from the Western world. That's where they said their aim was too.
Judging by what I've seen in-game the heels are far from extremely high. Which would make it impractical. If they didn't think it was sexy they would've kept the females in-game flat heeled with 3/4 of their breasts bursting out of their armor.
This is not the only game it is used in. Thinking back on all othe other games I've played that had women in it I don't see the reason why you chose Aion specifically for this subject since you stated "(personally, I am against the whole unrealistic armor styles from women)".
"Lol ironic. You specifically state that you are careful yet you jump to silly and moronic conclusions that people that disagree with you are idiots?" Oh sorry, I'm "serious problem" remark must have really hurt in reply to your sarcastic troll. I was judgmental, just like you are. Again, hypocrite. But unlike you, I don't deny the obvious (deny that I am judgmental). And no, about your 'I'm not apologetic', I really wouldn't expect anything less from you.
"Considering YOU were the one that also jumped to the conclusion that I disliked high-heels" Nowhere did I say that. Try again.
Sarcasm again, says a lot. You assumed that I didn't think high-heels didn't make women more beautiful or feminine. That is where this statement comes from, but again, you lack the ability to think things through. And yes, I am being judgmental. I'm not going to lie about it, like you.
"but rather the unrealistic and impracticality of them in battle" If this were about real life then yes. I gave my "sarcastic" comment on the point of view of it being a...game. Again.
You are assuming.
I never stated that they couldn't put high-heels in their game.
I ONLY EVER wondered why they did, and that why question includes 'why would they put women in high heels even though realistically it wouldn't work?'
"While just being plain nasty (while nasty, it really showed a lot, since sarcasm is the lowest form of wit)" You're not doing poorly either. Chapeau.
Since when have I been sarcastic?
"The 'only way' was referring to the fact that women can still be feminine and sexy in battle or in a game without wearing unrealistic shoes that would lead them to an early death if it was at all realistic" No, you were putting words in my mouth.
Umm, considering I was talking about I meant in that quote, that (your reply) would not make sense.

Again, see above. My purpose was to discuss the use of high heels and not to deny them. Assuming that I thought a certain way (that they shouldn't be done) is just a silly generalisation.
My questions weren't my opinion, I didn't at all mean (and never did I state) that I wanted the artistic direction changed or was unhappy with it (since most games I play females don't have high-heels on, if anything it will be a different experience)... Since I am in the arts area I think every design discussion is one of artistic style by what the original creators wanted.
But yes, thank-you for finally actually putting some useful information into the topic instead of continuing to troll post like before (like I am mosting trolling now since most of my information isn't on the actual subject, rather correcting you or correcting what I meant). Even though I'm still wondering why you aren't replying to all of what I stated instead of a few remarks you could nitpick out of the post and try to correct in minor ways.
More on topic: As I noted above having high heels in a game on all women will be a differing experience then other games. It'd be interesting to know how hard it would be for women to drop down a few inches if you pull the high-heels off in a game... Do they drop down in size in Aion? Or to Elyos chicks have a freaky foot like Guild Wars when you pull their high heels off?
Wow I just googled "high heels korea" and this thread was on the second page! LOL!
1. More efficient to make 1 version of animation instead of making 2 versions just because of heel and no heel.
2. Heeled version will look the most realistic when mesh to look like flat sole shoes while the opposite will not.
3. Heeled boots model also allows other types of shoes to be made such as padded or raised shoes with more ease.
4. Cost less for the animation work and doing both.
5. Heeled shoes looks pretty cool and stylish. (This is personal opinion only though)
In the name of efficiency, flexiblity, aestheticism, and cost effectiveness. I render your line of question and opinions meaningless in the realm of logic.
You can always pick a game where the shoe mesh is barely recognizable. Problem solved.
Is it a Korean thing? I know Korean women don't have the longest legs in the world, but isn't a little too much? Maybe it's just me and I'm not used to the culture. Not going to stop me playing the game, but insisting that EVERY female be in high heels through-out the game even via weird claws is just really odd to me. Growing claws like that is similar to normal women growing extra long-freaky-bone to also make it look like high heels. Having armor that shows enough skin to make the women look more attractive in gaming is one thing (and of course can be compared to this high-heels thing), but do Korean's really find high-heels so in-grained into what makes a good women (whether good-looking, elegant, and its general importance in judging a female) that they MUST add it like games add unreasonable armor designs? (personally, I am against the whole unrealistic armor styles from women)
And this isn't a joke, I'd honestly like to know why Korean's feel the need to add high-heels to all females in a game, and whether or not this whole 'high heels' thing is spread within the culture.
If gaming companies could get away with it, female avatars would run around bare butt naked..... and I'd probably go out of my way to buy that game.
Sooooo yeah, its not ever going to change, nor will the endless threads about the same topic.
I personally don't like or dislike the clawed high heels. But I think it matches the delicate feminine armor. Wearing a pretty frock and flat shoes looks a bit silly

anyway i cant really say why all asian mmos have those unrealistic armors, but ill just say that im all against it.
i mean making armors so they still retain the curves of females is ok, making insanely large breasts is ok too, but doing it in a pervert-overkill-way is just too much.
the best armors dont have any kind of real protect? breasts have some kind of fetish-metallic-hands holding them? high-heels in a combat?
making females sexy in a video game can be done in delicate ways... that would make them more elegant and more elegance = more female as well. so why the hell...
also many succesful video games managed to make females look sexy without those idiotic ways.
like bastila shan from kotor?
if idiotic ways of making female look sexy is some part of asian culture... then i deeply apologize lol...

I think many men fantasize women in very high heels doing wicked things to them. I know my husband does and had me act out a few of those fantasies when we first got married so I would not just put this trait on Korean men. It is something that is just accepted with these genres. I really do not see the need to get offended. I knida enjoy the look especially when I am playing the characters. I am afterall playing a game it is not like I am going to some plastic surgeon to accentuate my brests or augment my butt cheeks

its simply a demographic marketing tool.
The average person playing the game is going to be 12 - 30 year old males. Its pretty much a given, that that demographic likes half naked, well endowed, elvish looking females. I mean its sad, but even I have to admit I ended up picking my race in aion based ont he most attractive female models. Is it sad and pathetic? Yes. Does it do what it was designed tod ow ith the targeted demographic? yes.
High heels and skimpy costumes on females in a video game? I don't really see a problem with it. However with the rise of 21st century metrosexualism and the continuing evolution of womens lib, why not high heels and skimpy outfits on the male characters? Ladies? What say you?
The OP is borderline raciest. As if high heals on video game avatars are only an Koren thing, because of short legs?
---------- "Anyone posting on this forum is not an average user, and there for any opinions about the game are going to be overly critical compared to an average users opinions." - Me

The OP is borderline raciest. As if high heals on video game avatars are only an Koren thing, because of short legs?
Really? Because in another thread I actually believe that I stated that the character's original voices sound cool. It was a simple question of wondering if this was a Korean thing or not, I wouldn't take offense if someone asked me whether or not something that I do is a part of my culture. (and I say culture, because even if I did have a problem the topic of the thread it would be a cultural difference, and culture has nothing to do with racism... since racism has to do with RACE).
And considering I referred to being a part of a Dutch culture before (where high-heels aren't as common), you'd think people who would judge me like yourself would read all that I have stated... a.k.a. my people protected others with their own lives because of racism
So meh, you state the obvious (that certain peoples have shorter legs) while wondering while they need high-heels and you get called a racists... Because... Morons like you conclude that having shorter legs makes you less of a person, so hence I am a racist?
OH YES SO ... Lets see here... I am never said that I believed it, I stated that I wondered about it. And considering I was referring to having shorter legs as an insecurity one would think trolls like yourself would assume that 'insecurity' is something that shouldn't be worried about yet you still say "racist"? And I don't say borderline because lets face it, you were pretty much calling me racist, the word borderline is pretty much there to try and grant you a 'get out of jail free' card without actually calling me a racist.
I'm not going to give you any chance to debate back, so what can you fight me back with (which you cannot actually do yourself because of course you are a complete idiot and a bad troll who cannot read all the posts in the thread before jumping to huge generalisation about people you know nothing about). Oh you could call me a special type of Social Darwinist where leg length actually mattered (I say special type because social Darwinist back in the day they thought whites were the 'be all and end all' but special implies that those races more physical able are the more high evolved, hence Africans)... But didn't I already specifically state that I was short? Oh, I could be calling myself unevolved!
If anything, you are the racist. Racists generalise specific aspects to specific races and consider those peoples lessers because of it. You generalised me as a racist and hence try to make me out as less of a person. How about you actually think (yes with that brain) before you make such unwarranted judgments.
Either way, I am more convinced that it is less of a Korean thing because of other's posts, no one still has specifically stated that high-heels isn't as popular in Korea as any other country however.
EDIT: oh yes, and FYI, from what I know Africans also have longer legs then the average European... so maybe I really like Africans and everyone else is just a lesser person? Oh who knows....

A little strange but it's a Korean-made MMO after all.. So the oversexualized design of female characters is no shock.
Sorry but if the only way women can be sexy and feminine for you is to have high-heels then you have serious problems.
Not stressing, just wondering why, since I already know why they give chicks huge racks. lol
Sorry but if the only way women can be sexy and feminine for you is to have high-heels then you have serious problems.

But alas, you just decided to troll post sarcastic rubbish rather then actually think anything through.
so what? you dont like hot chicks? lol loser
You are assuming.
I never stated that they couldn't put high-heels in their game.
I ONLY EVER wondered why they did, and that why question includes 'why would they put women in high heels even though realistically it wouldn't work?'
Since when have I been sarcastic? Umm, considering I was talking about I meant in that quote, that (your reply) would not make sense.Again, see above.
More on topic:
As I noted above having high heels in a game on all women will be a differing experience then other games.

*Insert point of high hell into tempal and watch X character die*
Do not underestimate the power of high heels!!!!

damn that sounds awesome.
anyway i cant really say why all asian mmos have those unrealistic armors, but ill just say that im all against it.
i mean making armors so they still retain the curves of females is ok, making insanely large breasts is ok too, but doing it in a pervert-overkill-way is just too much.
the best armors dont have any kind of real protect? breasts have some kind of fetish-metallic-hands holding them? high-heels in a combat?
making females sexy in a video game can be done in delicate ways... that would make them more elegant and more elegance = more female as well. so why the hell...
also many succesful video games managed to make females look sexy without those idiotic ways.
like bastila shan from kotor?
if idiotic ways of making female look sexy is some part of asian culture... then i deeply apologize lol...
I though Bastila was uggers

Yes. Does it do what it was designed tod ow ith the targeted demographic? yes.
LOL, how true.
The OP is borderline raciest. As if high heals on video game avatars are only an Koren thing, because of short legs?

"Hello person posting on a site specifically for MMO's in a thread on a sub forum specifically for a particular game talking about meta features and making comparisons to other titles in the genre, and their meta features.
How are you?" -Me
