Just a few questions from a perspective player

murdera2k6murdera2k6 Member UncommonPosts: 474

Hi, well i'm considering to buy this game but a just have a few questions...

1) I live in Europe but is the NA version better, more populated, and has less issues with lag etc...

2) How much trading is involved, is it like WoW trading or more up front where i might need to go to a market place etc..

3) To what extent is the economy based on crafting?

4) Are the graphic card requirements high, (do i need to support pixel shaders?)

5) Is PvP avoidable when you don't want to, and if I want to say mine, am I PvP prone?

Thanks you in advance :)

    1. currently the europe server is the most populated.

    2. (In before your lied to) All you get is a trade channel, any trades are done by a trade window. Do not expect friendly people when it comes to you haveing tons of goods they need.

3: There is little to no economy, Most players will guild up and fourm alliences , hug a city and get some resorces in then find the closest resorce node to a universal bank to do quick deposit trips. Also due to the fact that crafting does give your char stats and other pvp benifits, everyone will craft just to be better at pvp so everyone will be good at makeing whatever they need. This means the demand for a pure crafter/ trader is obsolete.

4: not really but you may want to play with the shadows off as they cause you to lag to hell and back, ya they make the game look pretty but then thats all it does.

5: your always prone to pvp, there are no safe areas. Learn to bank often and early as possible. Now you can jam all your toys into the bank, walk half way across the world and have access to your toys from a bank far away. Quickly youll realize that dying to another player poses no threat as you can go on naked to do your errands.

Thanks for your reply, but i've heard that there is a big demand for crafters/crafted goods idk, but anyway any else think differently?

There is demand for crafted goods in darkfall id have to disagree with the comment.  While all crafting avenues are open to all players people do tend to stick to 1 or 2 because to completly master a craft obviously takes time.  As far as harvesting goes there is a lot of demand for raw materials too well apart from maybe stone so there is an opportunity to make money there.

If you wanted to work completly alone you may not have as good an experience as if you worked within a clan but it is still more than possible and there are resources to be found within safe cities as well as the crafting stations.  of course this is a pvp focussed game to an extend but there is certainly room for crating and i know a lot of players do purely craft.  plenty of clans would welcome you with open arms! i play on the EU server btw and the trade channels are busy and friendly im my experience anyway.

he is right, there is no economy at all. no way to trade your goods other than face to face, and when you do that you end up getting ganked.

there is no way to avoid pvp other than to run.

if you like to craft and trade  you will hate the game, unless you are in a huge guild/alliance.

If you want to deal in a lot of crafting stuff link up with the Freemasons. They have a few hamlets and a city and are a 100% crafting/economy guild. All the big guilds deal with them.

    1) I live in Europe but is the NA version better, more populated, and has less issues with lag etc...
I played for 5 months on the EU server from California USA and game ran well, so expect your connection to be superior to mine.  On the NA server "for me", it's 10 x smoother.
    2) How much trading is involved, is it like WoW trading or more up front where i might need to go to a market place etc..
The only way to trade "at the moment" is face to face.    We hope and expect to have "Player Vendor NPC's" in the future, but no word yet.   I strongly doubt there will ever be an Auction House type thing, but expect UO type player vendor NPC's, especially now that you can own your own home.
This mostly happens in the capitol cities of each racial alliance so contrary to what others are telling you, you have the safety of guard towers to do your trade and prevent any ganking.       Crafted goods are very much desired because the developer changed the mechanics to make it so.     The items you can craft are superior to drop items and have much higher Durability, which means they last a LOT longer before falling disapearing.
    3) To what extent is the economy based on crafting?
See answer above to #2.    and there is a Trade Channel that is quite busy.  If you stay active in, you will develope a reputation and find many repeat customers.   My friend on EU server made the trade aspect of the game a focus and he became one of the richest players on the server.
    4) Are the graphic card requirements high, (do i need to support pixel shaders?)
No, but obviously the better the graphics card and CPU, the better the graphics and smoothness of the game.    DFO is not graphics intensive like Vanguard or AoC were, but it requires more than say WoW.   If you want to post your DXdiag or specs., we can comment more thoroughly.
    5) Is PvP avoidable when you don't want to, and if I want to say mine, am I PvP prone?
Around the starter areas and Capital cities you can gather all materials and craft in safety, as guard towers will protect you.    There were times on EU at the beginning when 6 naked newbies would occasionally attacke a crafter in town and one would survive long enough to kill and loot.    I haven't seen this happen in months.    The trees, ore, rocks, plants water, etc., eventually get depleted and are on a 3-hour spawn cycle, so you will eventually need to venture out if you want to harvest significant quantities.      I'd say success in doing so and getting back with your goods is 75/25; 75% of the time you'll get back and 25% you won't lol  Mileage varies.
    Thanks you in advance :)

    4) Are the graphic card requirements high, (do i need to support pixel shaders?)

The initial system requirements for Darkfall are as follows:

    Operating System: Windows XP, Vista

Processor: 2.5GHz Pentium 4, or equivalent

RAM: 1GB for Windows XP, 2GB for Windows Vista

Graphics Card: 128MB PixelShader 2.0 support

Hard Drive Space: 12 GB Free Space Minimum

This is the latest reguirements that I could find.

For the rest of your questions, the other posts seem to have covered the basics.

Heh, I do that all the time when my goal is to run from one city to another. I remove EVERYTHING, including all my armor. It really pisses off the folks that run around killing people for their stuff, only to find an empty bag with a starter sword. ;-)

Integrated video? What are you running a laptop or a low end Dell / HP? Oops just noticed it is a Dell :(

That graphics chip set was out of date when it was introduced, and I believe it is what my 10" netbook uses.

Also, the on the NA vs EU servers, does the lack of lag on the NA servers make up for the greater pop. on the EU servers. Also I play alot at night in the EU which is NA prime time for servers, which should i go for? NA or EU...? Also NA servers work out cheaper for me :)

    A question here:

How can there be trade  and a global economy if people can just kill you to get whatever you have(had) to offer?

According to the chart on this page , that chipset supports the 2.0 pixel shader standard. So technically you can run Darkfall.

But at a guess, you'll have to set the resolution and settings so low, that you may or may not find it enjoyable.

I can't attest to the performance of it.

I can say that  I have never heard/read good things about the older Intel iGPU's and gaming.

    Hope that helps.

    Good luck.

it didnt seem like a laptop ( screen resolution its the one native to a 22" screen) an bios date is from 02/08 so it only a little older than a year

Was going to, i think it still is £900 in dell stores but i got a deal done from somebody who has contracts with dell so i got it cheaper.

Anyhow, can i run DF o nmy comp, (awaiting reply so i can buy it!)

    Good luck.

Thanks that did help, but any ideas about which server i should choose? Thanks.
