Yes Aion graphics are gorgeous if one doesnt like the artsyle so be it ,other than AOC (which is a completely different style) i cant think of an MMO that is any prettier. I had fun playing the game but then i dont mind the RPG factor in my MMORPG. I would like to know what these whiners want, unless its a FPS i have no idea. If you dont like RPG elements dont play RPG's. Seems ive been heard MO is a "gank 'em all right out of hte gate" type of game but im sure they wouldnt be happy with that game either. Some will never be happy with anything, this type of person i refer to as a chronic bitch. Yes i like Aion, for as said, the graphics and the main reason is, its fun. Im no rabid fanboi, if you folks have an honest criticism of the game i will listen but just bitching for the sake of bitching only makes you look small and pettty.
Well, there goes the conversation... down to name calling. Guess we ran out of anything constructive to say. This will be my last visit to this tread.
I don't know why people get so worked up. If someone says they don't like a game and list their reasons, why reduce yourselves to name-calling and getting pissed off. Any review of a game, good or bad, has a place. But they are just that, a review, an opinion. Not everyone will like the game and supporters shouldn't get so defensive. It can't all be positive reviewing. Seriously, if I had gone off of the hype I read on these boards and had actually bought the game instead of playing the beta I would have been pissed. The picture the supporters of this game paint is nothing close to what my experience playing the beta weekends was. It's not a bad game, it just doesn't fit into what I personally call fun or exciting. So when it comes to games, I am perfectly happy seeing both sides. But it gets old wading through the insults, hurt feelings and name-calling.
On a side note, while I didn't care much for the gameplay. I will say it has one of the very best soundtracks I've heard in a game. No lie, that is top notch stuff.
I've played Beta 3 and 4 recently, as extensively as the client would allow me - which wasn't a whole lot of time in all honesty. I managed to spend as much time trying to relog back in and maintaining my connection as well as putting up with insane lag. But hey, it's BETA....right? If this game had been released in 2001, I would have given it a 9/10. Unfortunately, we are now in 2009. It seems to me they have tried to aim the game at the 'WoW' crowd, and it feels dumbed down and assinine in it's presentation. The anime cartoonish style, accompanied by huge mis-proportioned weapons adds credence to this comparison, and it is a typical Korean MMO with Blizzard overtones and gameplay. I would imagine the game will run well on most reasonably up to date machines, due to the style of graphics and the fact there are next to no textures in the game. Some of the scenery is 'nice', but lacks any sort of feature and in my opinion, is disappointing. Characters look decent very close up, but as soon as any distance between them is engaged by zooming, the simplicity of the engine is highlighted and it just looks extremely 'average'. This 'simplicity' will aid in mass PvP at a later stage, but in this day and age surely we should be expecting something a little better. The gameplay itself is just stale. It offers absolutely nothing new - except for flight - and the quests couldn't be more boring, pointless and similar - if you like this concept you will be in your element. For a game that is approaching it's first birthday in Korea, we in the West managed to get version 1.0 which has been obselete for months, and asked to test the localisation. The performance was abysmal, and probably the worst beta I have ever been involved in because of this one factor. It has actually deteriorated in the two weeks since Beta 2, even though 2 more servers were added for the EU participants. I played on both the new 'low' population servers provided, and the lag and rubberbanding was just laughable from a supposedly 'finished' product - their excuse of 'overloading' and 'stress testing' doesn't hold water because of the server I was playing on. Is this annoyance due to 'Gameguard' anti-hax software? I don't know. Aion has a chance, due to the fact that the game is being aimed at folk who like this sort of casual junk. I advise trying the proposed OB of this game or getting a free trial before parting with any cash. I'll carry on waiting for something that has some innovation and thought behind it - if that ever arrives... Scores 4/10 - Nothing new to see here, move along.
Didn't come across anything in your post that seems to suggest you even played the game at all except contradictions.
At the start of this pathetic "review" you seem to imply that the game would run decently due to the simplistic graphics,, but then later on you concede that the performance was "abysmal".Why would you speculate at the games performance when you are actually playing it ?That's when I stopped reading.
neither me, nor any of my guildmates had ANY problems whatsoever on the NA servers. *shrug* In fact we couldn't stop commenting about how it was in a FAR better state than any released game out there at this point. Stability wise that is.

Maybe for the same reason that people find the need to let us know they don't like a game? To be honest, who really gives a shit one way or the other. Make an opinion for yourself for god sakes.
What lag ? i've played on 3 of the 4 servers at varying levels all weekend with none + you mention constant disconnects I would say the problem lies in your internet.
We are actually on 1.2 this weekend i believe.
Aion once you hit PVP is where it becomes more complex both target wise tactically and strategy as it should be IMO PVE for me is just a means to a end and if i can button bash my way there all the better.
Ah, so the bulging sticky thread on disconnects and lag on the CB forum is just a figment of my imagination?
Silly me.
I had no problems with connection.
When are people going to learn that seeing a forum post about something doesn't mean it's the masses.
PERSONALLY, I don't connect to a game then head to the forums and say "Hey guys, just wanted to check in and say my connection is great!"
I personally dont need to read reviews to know that Aion will be very similar to all the other MMOs on the shelves these days. The only MMO I've found even remotely refreshing is guild wars....which I'm actually considering playing full time and canceling as my subs elsewhere.
Please indulge me on what it is Aion is trying to do.
Oh and I agree, of course you are going to see threads with people having problems. The people NOT having problems, are playing the game. And once more, for where this game is right now, it couldn't run any better for me. I was VERY pleasantly surprised with the performance of that game. It ran better than any other MMO out there and to me looked better. The wonders of great coding!
I'm getting real tired of level/class quest grinds that lead to the "end-game" of PvP and raiding... Hopefully SW: ToR with actual story progression and the Bioware conversation system and then FF XIV will offer something new and different... I agree though, how the hell can't peope see Aion for what it really is? I mean... come on! It's so obvious. Even if the RvR is great at end-game... it's still so obvious what this game is trying to do.
Its trying to do.. what every other MMO is trying to do.
In PvE raid game.. you get to "end game" and then pve for items and possibly AA points.
In PvP game (daoc) you go kill players day after day after day.. to get Realm abilites.
Combo: You do both of the above but PvP allows you to get uber gear as well as raids.
Now if you can point out to me the awesome game on the market not doing this.. I'll be happy to look at it.
The only other type of game I have ever seen... still involves an "end game" of either:
1) Killing mobs day after day
2) PvP day after day
3) Sit around talking to friends in a virtual world instead of IM or RL.
4) harvest.. to craft day after day to sell items to players doing 1/2.
^^ Basicly UO, SWG Pre-CU etc
I've yet to play anything that deviates so I'm not sure what people expect.. even with player created content it will still be the same as the above... unless you are in Second Life.. *.*

It's been said before, the game is not offering a redesign of the mmo genre.
If you don't like it then fine. However, casual junk? well you don't like casual games. What's the problem. The game is aimed at a broader more casual audience.
It's like saying you don't like something such as hard rock yet you go to a hard rock concert and just decry the things you don't like about it.
I have no problem with people not liking a game (or anything for that matter). What I do have a problem with are people who would never like the game to begin with yet try it anyways so they can bash on it.
Aion is pretty much what the devs have said it would be all a long.
I completely agree with you that players need to try the open beta or a trial before they purchase the game. Hardcore players will not like it (if they are looking for a hardcore game) complete pve players will not like it as they will be forced to contend with some pve issues.
However, going through your post history, everything you post is negative. It's pretty much difficult to see where you are coming from as all you do is to criticize in a negative way.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Just a heads up Antarious, but my post wasn't directed at you. It was directed at JohnSpartan who mentioned it was so obvious what Aion was trying to do, yet didn't mention, what it was. The basic premise behind all games is the same. But to say that what they were doing was obvious, in a negative manner, then choose not to elaborate, its almost as if he doesn't really have an argument, but just wishes to be negative. Who knows, I've been wrong before, maybe I am misinterpreting what he is trying to say.
