My Impressions

Ok so I have had EQ2 beta for about a week or so, I'll give you some quick impressions.

Graphics: Ok, I really don't need to get into detail much, the graphics are simply gorgeous. From the photorealistic faces, to the seaguls that swoop past you into the sky, this is definitley a strong point in the game.

Combat: Meh, nothing special here. You click, press a few spells, and there's the combat. I thought the combat wheel would be better, but it's pretty straightforward.

Questing: Argh! What were they thinking? I'm around level 12 and the quests are really annoying me. Kill 10 badgers? Real creative SOE. Some of them are easy, and the rest aren't detailed enough.

Sound: Another strong point. Voice overs were actually acted well! The music? Incredible. I really liked some of the music in this game, really fits this game well. If your walking on soil, you'll feel your feet in soil, walking on grass? You'll hear the grass rustle around your feet.

Areas: This is one of the things where I just said "SOE, what the hell have you done?". To me, this is what really killed the game. The areas look all computer generated. Open field, few trees to the right, a big hill, and there is a whole continent. I ran across antonica to the thundering steppes, to nektulos forest (which might I add took like 8 minutes to do) and the areas looked pretty bland.

PvP: Ugh, there isn't any! SOE what are you doing? You have two cities. One good, one evil. They are both STRONGLY against each other, and there is no PvP to speak of? This was just rediculous.

Conclusion: EverQuest II has some strong points, but at the same time, they really made some big mistakes with this game. I could get more detailed into this game if I wanted to... But the fact is, I played this for about a week running through some bland enviroments, and doing some real boring quests. Unless past level 20 this turns into a whole new game, I certainly won't be playing this.

I see you used, "bland ", in your discription a lot. Looking at all the released pictures I have to agree everything looks greyed out? where's the color, everytrhing seems to meld into each other.

I remember in SWG, the open areas looked pretty bland unless you turned on grass. Is there grass to turn on that maybe you didn't have on?

Ive been playing for about a month, maybe slightly longer.

Isle of Refuge id say yea thats bland, and kinda boring but is ok. Afterall its a "newb" island.

Freeport/Commonlands is bland, depressing and boring. The only thing i love about Freeport is that the NPC's there are hilarious, they are rude and just simply tell funny comments at you.

Quynos/Antonica is bright, all good i love it. NPC's are polite and wetty types.

Voiceovers sound realistic, this is a very very strong good aspect of EQ2, im well impressed with some of the things ive heard. Same goes for environmental effect sounds.

    Ive got:
lvl20 Templar @ Quynos (my main)
    lvl8 Scout @ Quynos
lvl6 or 7 Priest or Cleric @ Freeport

So far, considering the game isnt finished yet and they are still adding lots and lots of new stuff and tweaking the game so much, Id give this game a overall 8 out of 10 from what ive seen so far from lvl1-20 on the Quynos side of the world.
No game ive ever played id give a 10 out of 10, tho EQ2 i think could/might be the best game ive ever played with a 10/10... possibly, depends on the high-level content, and what new stuff - if any they put in for the lvl1-20 range.

well, i loved the areas and graphics in SWG. i quit playing because they screwed the game up so much (PvP and guilds and such) that everyone i knew quit, and the servers got pretty unpopulated. all that was left was powergamers that i had no chance against in PvP. so i quit that game, but EQ2 doesnt have PvP (which i dont really care to much for anyways, but it is fun sometimes) so this sounds like the game for me.

Everyone seems to love EQ2 or hate it. Really makes me think that they are not in beta. Im not saying that you are not in beta, just some other people. 8/10 ppl that say they are in beta seem to love it.

Well it seems i will have to try it out and see. Hopefully your right and they have not put in all the content and finished tweaking it. I just hope it's not as "bland" as your saying.

Ya, I think most people are gong to buy both WoW and EQ2, one of the games will not be fun for them so they will go to the other one.

I'm going to get my character past level 20 before I write my more "in-depth" review. This was just my first impressions so far.
