The problem here is if you do like it and you do buy it, there is going to be a load of hidden costs you didn't plan for and indeed have been given no previous inclination on how to plan for.

You will already be paying over the odds.

You say people talk out of ignorance, but I put it to you that they don't. That they have already encountered this company and the person proposing the new business model before.

That they talk from a position of personal experience.

P.S. given that you have a post count of 4, the person in this thread most likely to have made a second account just to reinforce his position in this thread, is you mate.

the 4 posts is the total number posts made total.  This is my 3rd post on this topic so it will probably read 5 now.  I'm talking of making different log-ins..not total number of posts.  All you're trying to do is demean me, while I'm trying to hold serious and valid conversation.

And, yes, it is still out of ignorance.  Have you played Champions Online before?  Have you experienced the MT store on Champions Online? No?  Then, you are speaking out of ignorance..you don't know what there is to hold. Everything that is said positve AND negative about the game is pure and mere speculation.

I think you are missing my point and just wanting to hear what you want.  I'm saying we need to stop speculating.  Wait for the game to go live and find out from others who tried the game, or do like me and spend the money, and find out for a fact before trying to bring everybody down based on speculation.

If you're afraid that CO is going to rip you off, then be a smart consumer...hold off on buying the game.  Make wise choices.  Don't cause panic and negatively impact the game over speculation and ignorance.  It's wrong.  It's demeaning.  Just wait and see.  Then, if you don't like what CO is doing, go on to the next game.  DCUO and Marvel is on their way.   And after the game comes out and CO is cheating people with the MT then by all means, I will log-in to my ONE account on this forum and gripe right along with everyone.

You can't even grasp the gist. All you've done is blather away hammering examples we refused to accept from a person directly involved with the production of the game. Parroting a banal statement is not discourse, hence most people aren't willing to accept your version of things.

And we have all the information we need to decide, they are charging a monthly fee on top of a MT store. I haven't even mentioned any item actually effecting gameplay beyond the cosmetic sense. The store even existing at inception is what makes me want to tell them to  go spin.

On the other hand, channeling Bill Roper might qualify as a neat party trick :P

Only if you're at some emo party. With Brighteyes playing you'd be amazed what else amuses you.

You know I was thinking about something.

Ok, I'm against that whole sub+mt thing.

First, I don't couple the Server Transfers/Account management with MT.

I don't consider the Promos you get with the TCG in WoW a form of MT, either.

But there are few things, that is they can do, that I can let them slide on the sub+mt.

I'll get to that in a second.

Way it sound they just selling vanity items, including the stuff with in-games effects.

Now the one thing these MT items with in-game effects shouldn't do, is have anything to do with effecting combat.

This is what I think there are doing, or at least I hope... otherwise they can burn in hell.

Anyway, here a couple options they can go with, and I'd let the sub+mt thing slide

Option 1) Lower sub fee that the standard $15/month, like $5-$8/month.

I can see they aren't going with this already with CO.

Option 2) Expansions are free... you don't have to buy one, ever. All content updates are free.

Comparing Rock Band to a MMO is stupid.  Sure, you have to pay for the peripherals, but it's a one time fee.  Will Champions offer a one time fee for a lifetime membership, or will it be F2P after you buy the box?  If that's the case, then it's a good comparison.  If players have to pay per month plus there are micro-transactions, I get the feeling the company is just trying to milk everyone for whatever money they can get.

Comparing WoW also doesn't work IMO.  Their micro-transactions are more of a service, and I find that much more acceptable.  Players can't change their name, or switch servers everyday.  By selling items (regardless of whether they are powerful, or purely  aesthetic) players can possibly spend well over $15 a month.  This just doesn't seem right to me, unless the monthly fee is substantially lower than the norm.

The question of whether expansions (which they're apparently already working on) will be free content updates or paid expansions was put to them on their own forums - and they pointedly ignored the question.

Roper was also careful not to use City of Heroes as an example of an mmo that uses MTs - and what they have is a small number of cheap, fluff booster packs in place of paid expansions. If CO was going to do the same thing, this would have been the obvious comparison to make.

I think, given the $48 million bonus they're aiming for, it's more likely they'll squeeze money out of players every which way they can.
