Most kids cant afford a monthly subscription type game and most high school or college students have more important things to spend their money on than game subscriptions. I would have to say the number of gamers is higher amongst us old fogies who have a lot of free time and the extra cash to afford these luxuries.
I say as long as there is a monthly fee for both games the same age groups will play both.

    ROLEPLAYERS UNITE!!!!!

i think this is a good oppertunity to pull the WoW fan line and say, look at the company game history, anyone who has ever signed onto any battle.net multiplayer game knows, full and well, that there is a massive amount of immaturity, enough to say, i think a lot of these people might be in middle school.  now im not saying young people cant be mature, i started playing eq when i was a sophomore in HS and i think i did okay.  but if we can say, a lot of the people that play blizzard games are going to play WoW and a lot of people that played everquest, are going to play everquest 2, we should be able to make an educated guess that there is going to be a somewhat distinguished maturity gap between these communities, i can see WoW now, just like EQ except instead of grouping with people to form guilds everyone is just going to get bots, and set them up in out of character chat. lol

The problem is not with the age of people playing.

Its the maturity of the players. To many people are imature, just because your 20 or 30 or even 50 + does not mean that your mature.  People tend to change when they play games, little things bother them that in RL might not.  People have to all learn to step back and think before saying things.  It is far to easy to get upset when your not talking to someone face to face.

No matter what game you play there will be those people that log in and do nothing more then piss off the general public, but then we see that in RL all the time so we all just have to learn to deal with it, thats why games have /ignore commands.  I just wish we could do that more in RL :)

I think this shows a great deal about the maturity level of the players in both games, and that makes me lean towards EQ2 just for the simple reason that I've played games where kids run around rampant kill stealing, ninja looting, and screaming "I pwn joo!" to thier hearts content.

You are on target but for the wrong reason. My kid plays "Toontown" and there is none of the stuff that you describe. My kid is 8 years old. Simple reason is that game mechanics don't allow any of above, same like EQ2 doesn't allow KS-ing etc. Game mechanics doesn't equal maturity.

On the other hand, if you come to forum fresh from PvP zerg it is more likely that it will show in your posts. WoW has competitive component in it, where EQ2 is almost entirely cooperative. In games I played  I remember PvP moments, both gratifying and frustrating more vividly than any mob fight. Personally, if WoW had EQ2 graphics it is very likely I would be posting right now in WoW section.

HMMMMMM seems to me... that if you dont like the putz *lack of a better word* floating around in either game.. then find ya a good guild with people you like to play with.. and let the rest of the worlds worry about themselfs .... if its WOW or EQ2.. dont really matter .. the princiapal is the same... when i dont like someone.. i /ignore them and refuse to play with them.. but that dont mean that i have to give up the game or not injoy myself.... but hey.. thats just me...

Maturity? I can tell from experience, WoW has NOTHING on Lineage2 when it comes to low maturity level. LOL. But I'm not gonna get into that...

Not wanting to point out the obvious (but going to anyways), WoW has 'cartoonish' themes, just like their PC games, which I'm guessing parents would spring for for their children.  Agreeing with the original post (and the one about Battle.net), you can do a lot more things in WoW to 'pwn' and generally be childish and annoying. Sure, there's gonna be people in EQ2 trying their best to be '1337' and do their best to harass people (there's guilds for that specific purpose).  They're always going to be there, but I KNOW most of those people won't be in EQ2 for the simple reason of no PvP. You hear people on here whining about no PvP and how they're not gonna play.. those are the immature people (granted, not all) that you will see in PvP games like WoW. I love the fact that some Joe can't KS or PK me just because he feels inferior in aspect of his RL and needs to feel like he's special. EQ2 just doesn't apeal to that type of person. /cheer
