I think what people were trying to point out about size...

8-10 CDs or 2 DVDs would imply the following: That means the minimum size of the files on the discs would be 5.2 GB on up to 6.5 GB. Keep in mind that this poll was up before they made the decision about voice-overs, which will add multiple GB on their own.

What most people don't understand is that installers compress files. So yes, a lot, if not all of the files on the install discs will be compressed. They decompress when installed, becoming larger than the capacity of the discs the files came on. Take Final Fantasy XI, for example... it is only 4 CDs (up to 2600MB), but requires, at minimum, 6GB of hard drive space. That's more than a 50% increase, so they had some decent compression going on. Not ALL developers will compress their files on install discs, but it is possible and seems like a fairly common practice.

Point being: If the game comes on 10 CDs, we can assume that the install files take up 6GB or so. When decompressed (installed), the game would be anywhere from 6GB to 13GB. Considering voice-overs weren't part of the plan in
the EQII.com poll, you can add on an extra 3-5GB to those numbers (Smed said that we were low when guessing at least 2.5GB of voice-over). Final size range? 9-18GB.
