In all seriousness, i wanted to know who thinks FFXIV will fail or have a hard time getting off the ground? (This is not a flame thread against FFXIV) I mean, its supposed to be weapon based, and you cannot change your job, meaning, if you want to try a new job, that will mean new character, and knowing SE that will mean, 1$ more out of ur pocket, And, look at the people who play FFXI, all the lvl 75s with the armor they got from the NM they camped for hours, how would this player base, after spending so much time just to do one thing in FFXI move to FFXIV? I really don't wanna see either game die, but i would rather have FFXIV fail before FFXI dies.

Don't remember ever seeing that you can't change jobs. In XI you only needed one character to do everything. That's why it was an extra buck per character, because you didn't actually need them for anything when it comes to different jobs.
I'm sure they'll do something along the lines of being able to do everything on one character. They won't have the issue with inventory memory restrictions either. So that would give you even less of a reason to even have an extra character.
Don't know enough to say if they game will or will not fail. We'll see.
To be the best, you must help each other become the best.
FFXI Character: Satimasu
FFXI Server: Valefor
FFXIV Character: Tamorae Fonteil
I was talking in my ls, someone said that u cant change jobs, doubt they would lie either, im just hoping this game doesnt kill FFXI.
I don't know what to expect. The video game industry has long been both victim and advocate to a trend of over-hyping preview titles only to bash them once they hit the market. This makes all of us gamers skeptical. After the initial boom of the fact that it's a "new" MMORPG by Square-Enix, I expect it'll take a huge hit within the first couple years, after all the trendy gamers get their fill, as a steady populations begins to define itself. Being Square-Enix I don't think it'll flop completely. Final Fantasy XI was their first-ever MMORPG and it's a pretty good one to be able to compete with all the other ones out there. And not only that, but it's a natural process to learn from both their own successes and failures and that of other games and implement new and exciting ways to present ideas and mechanics. Take character development, for example. We know there are no experience points, and there is emphasis on weapons strategy. If anyone has the slightest bit if imagination, meaning to not assume that this new system is pulled from any previous game (that's all I'm seeing in XIV is linear comparison), we have no idea what's to come - and I for one like it that way.
Being that you cannot change your job, I think it's more that your choices in character development define your play style. As I've said before, if you want to be an all-powerful uber-hardcore elitist, for now it's better to stick to Final Fantasy XI with their every-job-at-Lv.75. What I gather from the concepts of Final Fantasy XIV is that if there are no experience points, nor can there be "levels", just new perks in development. Whether that means you can use a new weapon class, abilities for or from those weapons, stat bonuses toward specific equipment, your development depends on your choices. To contrast Final Fantasy XI where you straight-up CHOOSE a job to perform and fulfilled whatever that was, I think within Final Fantasy XIV lies the potential to DISCOVER your role based on how you develop your character as you play.
For people who LIKE Final Fantasy XI and are stuck to it, the game isn't likely to die any more than World of Warcraft or Dungeons & Dragons Online. They've made their mark. They're well established with a difinitive player base. They can rest assured that they'll have Final Fantasy XI for as long as any current existing MMORPG, but they shouldn't consider their time invested a waste, but more as a retirement. Congratu-freaking-lations, you mastered endgame and got your superb awesometastic armor of orgasmatron. You've completed all the story and maxed every job and have basically done all there is to be done. Now what? You sit around waiting for expansions and new content. If anyone is SO attached to their character that they're unwilling to retire it, first of all nothing lasts forever, secondly that's a little sick, and thirdly they'll still have XI on reserve if they don't like XIV. If they DO like it I would think they'd enjoy the chance to do it all over again in a new world with a new character and new story and new development. Doing the same thing over and over again gets boring. Luckily, XIV is NOT XI.
I wouldn't wish for XI to die out, but I'd like to think XIV will set a new standard.

Unless he works for SE, he's not all that credible of a source of information about the game. It's rumor, till it's officially announced by SE. I don't see them not allowing job changes, since it is extremely popular in 11,3,5, and tactics. Basically every FF that had it in it, was loved for it. They may or may not have the same payment model as 11 where you have to pay a dollar for the extra characters, but I don't think they will. I would like to believe they're trying to keep up with the times. No one but ff11 charges for more characters, and I personally have never been a fan of such limitations. Granted the price of ff11, will allow you to add 2 or 3 extra character slots and equal the same price as most p2p's. But, most p2p games have at least 8 or so slots per server, or around that number. FF14 is going to be quite different from 11, just judging from what they've said their aimed audience will be, and the little bit of game mechanics they've released. It would have to be an almost completely different experience than 11 for them to make profit off of both games. It wouldn't be all that great of a financial move to make another FF just to kill the previous one off, when the previous one is still profitable. It at least doesn't make sense to me. At this time, there's just not enough information released though, for anyone to spout out anything, claiming it to be fact including myself. It's all going to be opinion, till probably closer to the end of this year, or whenever SE decides to release more information on it. When SE announces more about the game we can formulate what we think the game will have an effect on, as far as ff11 is concerned.
But, for the sake of answering the question.....I suppose ff14 might hurt some of ff1's fanbase. The people who like you said, worked for months or however on their characters, to get to 75, get AF etc. probably won't leave, but who knows. I never found ff11 to be very fun to begin with. It was my first mmo, and I loved it when it came out, but once I discovered the mmo's that came after it, I just couldn't go back. It felt archaic to me. Even EQ which came out years before it did, felt like it had less dated features than ff11. I think those who want to be in the ff world, but don't want to deal with the hassle of a lot of the old features of ff11 will go to that one.I know I'm personally one of thos individuals. I personally don't mind either themepark, or sandbox, what little there is of it anyway, and don't mind wow, eq2,lotro, and such, so I will be keeping tabs on its website and so on. Since from my understanding they're targeting people like myself, I think it'll be perfect for me. I've liked just about everything I've seen and heard on it, so if I were given the choice to play 11 or 14, I can almost guarantee, I'd throw 11 to the wolves. Many old games have kept up with the times, and I just don't see 11 doing that. It looks and feels rusted, old, and not worth my time anymore. Being a former player, I think that 14 is just what I'll be wanting when it comes out. To hell with 11 as far as I'm concerned.
There's no information out on this right now so you should just stop stating facts you know nothing about. Regardless, I doubt they would eliminate being able to change jobs/roles considering they said they planned on "expanding" on the job system from FFXI which does not mean eliminating the job system from FFXI.
Also, to someone else: Just because they don't have exp doesn't mean the idea of exp won't exist in some way or another. Call it what you want, exp or whatever, there will undoubtedly be something to grind for. And if there isn't, well I'd be curious to see what it is.
Any thread with the word fail in the first sentence is flame bait.
People need to realize that an MMO doesnt need WoW numbers to not be a failure.
Aside from that you post is based on assumptions which is more flame bait. Whos to say youy cant change weapons which changes your job? Whos to say you will have to pay an extra buck for another charater.
Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)
Now Playing: N/A
Worst MMO: FFXIV
Favorite MMO: FFXI
Err... they never said there was no job system in XIV.. They said it would be expanded on from XI's. I have a feeling it'll be similar where you can switch jobs on the same character... that's one thing I think most everyone who's played FFXI loves about it.
and the cash shop selling asphalt..." - Mimzel on F2P/Cash Shops
Unless they changed that in the past 2 years (last time i played)They are dead wrong. thats is what made FFXI such a great game. You need a healer go change.... you need a tank go change ...... picked the wrong sub job .... go change.
Played Aoc/DDO/FFXI/WAR / LoTRo / CO / Aion
Playing Rift
Waiting for FFXIV to be the game it should. so sad =(
They have also stated that they plan to continue to support XI with content updates, sure XIV will take a chunk out of the pop but SE is going to continue with XI for anyone that wants to stay.
Also, who needs to change jobs when you can just change your weapon! :P
I thought they were going the direction of 'no jobs/classes' and more skill based.... Which is why you could be whatever you want, and therefore no classes/jobs are needed.
from what i read they did say FF14 will have jobs and be able to change them, i know im 100% sure he said in a video interveiw during E3 that said they basicly loved how the job system worked and they wanna do that diffrent but more of it. it says how they use one weapon one day and develope that way, and another weapon to develope a diffrent way.
they wouldnt charge for extra characters if you couldnt play all the jobs...everyone would biotch and it would fail right away, anyways there is such minimal inf out there.. just wait until it comes out to make rash judgments.
