I've been browsing the official site and also have been skimming over this site and I have read the FAQ but one thing eludes me. EVERY SINGLE VIDEO is soloing. I play a lot of EQ2 and SOE is about to screw that game over royally and I don't want any part of it so I'm searching for a new game.
I played AoC when it released and could just not get into it. I know they recently revamped it but I don't want to waste 15 bux if it's going to be the same crap all over again.
SO the question is to anyone who has been playing beta what is grping like? Are there heroic type instances that you need to have a party for? Epic instances? Have you even been privy to zones such as that? Hell are there zones in this game or is it just one big world?
If you want to be a JA and say look harder go for it but I'm just looking for someone to put down a few sentences telling me there is no grouping for the most part or there is grping and your gonna freaking love it (or hate it) w/e the answer may be.
Thanks in advance.

I saw in chat in broken english i think Asian probably Korean ( For those about to die we attention you ) I have no idea where they were. The last beta weekend.
MAGA
Mobs are kinda deadly, it encourges grouping but doesn't force it.
At level "4 dot" mobs are hard as hell to kill... and they aren't even elites.
There are group quests, elite mobs and dungeons, for grouping.
I haven't done a dungeon so can say it epic or not....
There is a lots of grouping. People group to do all sorts of PvP (sieges, roaming, rifting, etc), people group to farm elite mobs, and people group to do instances and raids.
There are areas that, though they can be soloed, a group would help a lot. Especially if one is squishy.
Havign said that you WILL be grouping for pvp or at least to do quests in the abyss. I think if you solo it you either want to test yourself against many people or you are just waiting to be ganked.

There is a lot of grouping in Aion but it doesn't enforce it. You can level 1-50 solo if you wish and that may be the fastest way. However if you want gear you will have to work together to get it.
You get very few instances. Most of the bosses will have 2 sides to enter from, elyos and asmodian, and HUGE groups of 20-XX people will enter to kill the boss but you will constantly encounter enemy players working your way up to the boss, as well as fighting the boss.
There are both solo content and group in Aion. Yes, there are stuff like instances that require a group in order to beat.
Aion offer both, but you will find yourself be able to solo most parts when leveling to 25. Once you hit 25 it is a whole different story since the game suddenly stop holding your hands and you are presented with a variety of options. Basically from 25 onward, what you choose to do for the rest of the game is up to you. You can spend all your time in the Abyss if you want, or you can do PvE contents and grouping for bosses. No one is forcing you to always have to PvE or always have to PvP, but it is up to you to choose what you want to focus on. Of course some contents have rewards you might want, so play accordingly if that is the case.
I'm on beta with a lvl 22 toon in the Asmodian server.
Yes, u need to group after level 15 if you want to continue the main storyline. Solo is possible but very boring as you will end up killing the same mobs over and over again.
The storyline requires you to go into areas with elite mobs that is impossible to solo.
So what it sounds like is that there are no "instanced" for your 6 person group only dungeons. In EQ2 I can zone into a dungeon and in most cases I do not have to worry about another group trying to steal my mobs because no other group is allowed to enter that dungeon that was opened specifically for my 6 person group.
The way I am interpreting with what you guys are saying is that EVERY ZONE is contested. Meaning that NOTHING is safe and anyone can take you out so that they can get to the boss mob and vice versa.
Is that about right? And if so how does that compare to the mechanics of WARHAMMER online? Even though it is PVP based I know there are instances in warhammer that are specific to w/e the max number of group members are in that game where you don't have to worry about other players ganking your mobs/loot.
I guess my real question is has anyone here played EQ2, Warhamer, or WoW AND also played in the beta version of this game? It'd be kind of cool to see how they compare one of those MMO's to this one.
BTW tyvm for all the replies to this thread. It's been very insightful.
Nah, most dungeon's are instanced only to your group.
There is only single dungeon I'm aware of that actually pits both sides against each-other in the same instance. It's the exception, not the rule.
Most gameplay videos for MMOs will be siege/raid or solo. It's rare to find group videos because when people are in a group of 4 or 6 or 8 or whatever, filming and playing with the camera gets in the way of both socializing and actually holding your own in the group. The exception to that is usually when the group members themselves are all in on the video thing.

I respect that that is how you feel but that really is sujective. Just because you think it's boring doesn't mean that others will and that they will HAVE to group because of it. I think you answered the question well when you said that you can do the main story it will just mean killing a lot of mobs. Also good to know about the elite mobs. Thanks.

Another thing with taking on the elite mobs is that your group must have a healer. Dont join a healer less group if you will be taking on elite mobs. You might as well solo.
BUT you can solo grind all the way to 50 if you want. Just do the lvl 1-10 missions so you get your wings then grind mobs to 50. Someone told me they did lvl 1-25 in beta in 16 hrs by grinding mobs. The good thing about grinding solo is you only take on mobs that you can handle so dying is not a problem. You end up making more money and sometimes the drops from grinding is better than the mission rewards. But we are in patch 1.0 so this may all change once 1.5 is implemented.
There are areas that cannot be soloed at all. In the Beta level 18 is very hard to get past on Asmo side without grouping for Black Claw elites. Its pretty much impossible to finish level 20 Asmo campaign quest with out taking a group. The two before that would need a duo or trio to finish at the least.
That may change with 1.5, not real sure.
The instances start around level 25.
hey...if this game didn't have grouping I'd be set up to fail from the start...that would totally kill the whole community factor of the game.

A lot of the content is geared towards 6 man parties (instances, elite zones, epic pvp ). Somethings you will not be able to do in a 6 man parties is world bosses & fortress take overs.
