Oh man Oh man Oh man Oh man Oh man I want to see this happen!!! CURSE MY 9600XT!!!
From Zorious in EBONLORE
Well I ran the game on the very highest settings for a while last night. Not good FPS but OMFG, it was awesome. Everthing looks so real. I can not imagine what type of machine its gonna take to run it high but it would be worth it for sure. When it rains the walls start geting wet and running with water, puddles form and mud starts to set in. When it stops raining things start drying out , I mean wow? You can see the sun beaming heat waves off the sand and it makes you feel like you are there in the heat, its just so amazing. I had to turn the settings down as you could see my machine taking the abuse of those graphics, I had to reboot lol. And just think whats in the future for EQ2, better chips more power means OMG in real life. SoE has definatly started something here and theres no telling the potential EQ2 has in the "years" to come, and they will come. Im working on some screen shots of it, ill post asap.

Yes they have stated the engine is build for the future and has the ability to even go further.
They used quite a lot of technology which is used to make movie special effects too.
Which is the dilemma many face.If you buy a FX6800ultra and even use a motherboard that can dual 2 it still runs choppy on extreme setting which is the highest setting.
Somone in beta tried this and he could not fight in a battle he could only turn it on when low population and not in combat and says it ran pretty choppy .
So basically if you have Gcard and it runs EQ2 on balanced setting i say stick with it because the engine is ahead of any card in the market.
It might take another 2 generation of cards to achieve a playable state on extreme setting anyhow.
I personally was about to order the FX6800ultra (yes that overpriced card lol) but decided if i am to spent such big bucks for a game i need to see it near the best it currently offers(since they stated they can push the graphics even further).
So i am opting to wait for the next gen cards next year and spent the big bucks then.At least by then i would be able to run the extreme setting(fingers crossed) and know my money is well spent rather then spent $400 on the card now and in 6 months see that a better generation can run it much better.
If EQ2 was released in april then yeah i say i go for the FX6800ultra then and enjoy 1 years worth of best the Gcard market has to offer but considering next gen cards will come out in 4 months(EQ2 released hopefully mid nov new cards usually hit market early april) after EQ2 gets released i am skipping this gen and staying with my R9800pro that runs balanced in crowds fine.
I look forward to seeing EQ2 "in person" so to speak. The last game I saw written for future gaming machines was an utter failure - Ultima 9 (I think).
MMORPG are a bit different though, since SP games become old/obsolete before the new machines are available.
Hopefully it will work out better in EQ2.
If EQ2 was all about graphics i would have given it a very bad review.
In mmorpg graphics means jack and thats why i laugh when you see people come into a mmorpg and say "wow i must buy this game".
In a few weeks you stop even noticing them(unless they are incredibly bad that is).
Content ,gameplay is what its about.
