Pretty funny look at what ruins a lot of games in DOTA, HoN, and League of Legends

I was very good at DOTA when it first came out. Took a break for a few months and I was completely barred from re-entry because I did not have the latest map. I tried to DL the map from their website, that is how hostile the community is, but there were problems. I went to the forums to ask what the hell had happened, and if there was even any point in trying to play DOTA anymore. Short answer- the community was already rotten to the core.

It is the worst on the web, inside or outside of online gaming.

The new stand-alone DoTa Clones have really found functions that fix this problem, you can even tell the people who used to be like that in WC3 but won't act like that in the new games because of the lasting effects of their actions. I see the community improving greatly.

One thing to new people as well, although most people are quit hostile to new people in these games you can play and learn enough to at least NOT FEED in the first few games. Let people know you are new(try to host/join a noobs only/allowed game actually if you can) and ask for help. Most importantly DO AS YOUR TOLD, Your new so just take the damn advice and you will be a poor addition instead of a gimp to the team.

This month I reinstalled WC3 and tried 4 games of DOTA. That is, 4 games where I wasn't immediately kicked out of the waiting/DL room. Let me tell you what happened...

There are NO noobs allowed or only games. Almost every single one is PROs and/or restricted to foreign players. Once inside the chatbox rolls with profanity as my team fights. Every game without fail, my team fights and I am sure the other one does as well. If I die,or mention that I am new, they tell me to leave or switch teams, or cuss me out, or they bail altogether. They do not tell me to do anything, have any advice, etc.

I have not noticed any improvement relating to the community itself, just to the game. The community is not made up of adults, at least not mature adults, that is what's wrong here. In other news this is happening to footman frenzy too.

The only thing left is green td.

I think you'd get a kick out of watching people play DOTA in person.  It is quite possibly the best entertainment I've found in quite some time.  You have no idea how many times you'd see people rage quit, or accuse others of being idiots only to commit the same mistakes themselves.  It's even better when you tell your friends you refuse to play with them because they become complete children throwing tantrums when things don't go their way.  I'm starting to think that people who play dota nowadays seem to regress by half their age automatically when the game starts.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Never played DOTA before, maybe your experiences now are an indication that the game should be left in the past, you had your time now play something else. Old game, old douchey community, doesn't sound like much fun.

Every time I've re-visited a game that I used to play hardcore it's usually been a lacklustre experience.
