Add-on friendly?

darkesthopedarkesthope Member Posts: 26

this seems highly doubtful to me, but I was wondering if this game was going to support user created add-ons (like WoW).  I guess this is something only a developer might know, but I was wondering if anyone has heard anything.

Looking at the rest of NCsoft games, I doubt it.

while not having add-ons could be less convienient, it does make hacking, bots, and whatnot harder to do, and that's always a huge plus for me.

That's also remains to be seen. Lineage 2 didn't allow users to customise their interface but the botting was rampant.

Fortunately or unfortunately, botting and hacking prevention is both a passive and active endeavour for an MMO company. Passive measures just aren't enough.

trust me I know...Phantasy star universe was an amazing game...and they had a hack guard program running on it...but then everyone in the game and their mom was running around with max money and hacked items that didn't exist yet.

why does everyone try to compare the pluses of this game with WoW and the minuses with Lineage2 ?

and i hope it wont support add-ons.

they made it too easy already for the "western folk" , what more do you want? 1 button clicking for 3 actions?

learn to keybind and time your targeting and skill bashing while moving properly....

actually from what I've seen...you can make in-game macros that let you use several skills in a row with 1 click.  it will be really handy for using certain skill chains that require the use of certain tier abilities.  And I'm only comparing it with WoW cause I played it for the last 4 years, lul, this is going to be my new game =P

I think he's talking about me. He's reading more than there is there though.

For me Lineage 2 would have been the perfect PvP game (non faction), if it wasn't for the extremely steep exp curve and the bot/hack/gold sellers controlling the economy. I've left AoC early,  so I don't know if they eventually managed to replicate the feeling, especially the one associated with castle sieging and defending.

I also don't consider UI modding a necessity. At this point in time I'm hardly in the position to determine what an addon would improve over the default UI. Also, it seems that the games that relied heavily on player made UI were offering just a generic default version (usually to keep the memory requirements down). That doesn't seem to be the case with Aion (I liked the default raid interface as well).

yea, I'll agree with you on the UI part, all the reviews and videos compliment it on its customizability and general usefullness, as well as the macro system being incredibly easy to use, as well as functional.

I'd like to chalk the botting up to the fact that Lineage 2 server files were stolen... TWICE. How hard is it to make a bot when you know exactly how the server ticks?

i read in some interview that allowing add-ons doesnt make part of their plans yet.

I think was a polite way to say NO  ;)

No add-ons no way no how. This is not a kiddy game like WoW. WoW allows add-ons because most of the player base cannot play their class right. If you know your class you do not need add-ons.

I do like the UI customization and hope they allow more customization of the UI. But for aggro meters and the such, no they are a joke and do not need them!!!

I would like to see custom player frames and action bars, but that's is about it.

The default UI is fine, but I'd like to be able to move the stuff around the screen, kinda Guild Wars or WAR let's you do by default.

WoW did go a little aboard with what you can do with addons.

I doubt it will allow add-ons, but I would love to rearrange my UI.

I'm in the same boat as you, left wow a few weeks ago & this will be my next  mmo, looking forward to playing this :)

well it seems everyone is jumping on the UI customization boat...I think I will too.  Having a custom UI allows each individual player to set up their game just like they like it, which is a huge plus to playing a new game.  the whole customization feel is always a plus for me, so I do hope NC soft impliments this in from guild wars like someone said before.

Why imply that every add-on is about combining button clicking?  UI customization could be considered add-ons.  I love it when I can drag my bars where ever I want on the screen, and I love UI skins that minimize all those extra graphics I don't want.  I played the CN version so I know that there are 2 built-in UI options, one that is more minimal.  However, I would still like to be able to individually move each element on my screen.  That has nothing to do with 1 button clicking for 3 actions.  I also like being able to see RL time in-game so I don't have to stare off the screen to find a clock.  Some games require a UI mod for this to happen because it's not included.  Not a huge deal, but those are a couple mods I can think of that don't involve button mashing.  They also don't equal easy mode.

Well, DF has had a lot of cheats/hacks, so their source is easy to get into.

And a very high percentage of the players macro their nights away to raise their skills.

But.......I suspect that DF won't have too many add ons, just due to the tiny number of players. However, I'll bet that bot programs will rise to the level of AC before too long - and that's going to be a real hit on the game ( the massive bot'ing in AC is what drove me to another game way back when  ).

Having a custom UI is fine i think. i would like to see Aion allow this feature to suit you personal needs.

Other addons like dps/threat meters shouldn't be allowed, and NCsoft have stated they wont allow them. The player should play the character not the other way around like a certain other game....

I hope they follow a limited cautious approach to add-ons. The sheer number of add-ons for Wo_ (censored) was bewildering, as were meta-addons like titan, and clients like wo_matrix (censored). They were well thought out and useful, but I never got over feeling like a newb if somehow I didn't have the latest addon that everyone else in the group or guild had. And the screen....only gane I've heard people complain about a crowded screen.

  • darkesthopedarkesthope Member Posts: 26

lol @ crowded screens...I think in WoW maybee a third of my screen didnt have some kind of gadget, button, or information cluttering it up XD but I didn't mind playing like that.

To the OP thankfully NO! NO addons! WOOHOO yay.. which I must say I am happy about. . I can honestly say I have never used an add on.. I was tempted once with a map marker add on back when I played WOW that was before Vanguard came out. But never ended up installing it.

I have actually turned down guild invites when I have found that they required certain add ons.  I consider myself in most the games I have played to be fairly competent without them... I never felt I needed them to play the game effectively.

  • twistydaveytwistydavey Member Posts: 19

I'm all for no addons as long as Aion don't make it so addons are needed. Take the Patchwerk boss from naxx 25 as an example of needing an addon

    * Hateful Strike:

Patchwerk will use this ability at a 1 second frequency on the target in melee range with the highest HP who is also one of the top three on Patchwerk's aggro list. Cannot be used on the main tank unless there are no other targets. This means that if you have 3 tanks, the rest of the melee is perfectly safe as long as they stay below the threat of all 3 tanks and none of the tanks die. Does 79,000 to 81,000 raw physical damage which can mitigated by armour and parried/dodged. This is about 23,000 damage on a partially Naxxramas geared tank. This ability will add threat to the three most threatening on Patchwerk's aggro list.

Here is where omen comes in very handy.

AION already got plenty of bots and hacks, nothing was leaked. Your point?
