There are abyss items that defenders or attackers can acquire to help with defense or give the attackers a slight edge and there is a shield that prevents flying over the walls until it gets taken out. So there is an advantage to holding a fortress besides the money and instance, especially if they are part of a alliance.

WAR has added Lotd in a whole year.. hmm... gotta say Aion's done a lot more into the game than Mythic ever have.... hell Mythic were supposed to have 6 cities... it ended up being 2...
sigh, WAR is dead.. which is a shame since the actual fantasy setting is one of my favourites (tome of knowledge reading is always good) shame the game is so bad, from the engine to the AoE mess to the inability to play their own game.

QFT I quit after the constant problem of some mobs being un-hitable all the while they could hit and damage you. This is still a major issue as I tried the trial again last week.

Very nice article, and pretty much highlights the main reasons why it's unlikely that Aion will suffer the same fate as WAR. For starters, it's already popular, lol. But more to the heart of the matter:

    - It's PvP is actually meaningful, it's concentrated (not much room for zone hopping), but the map is also actually BIG enough to have a variety of different battles. It's not all funnelled into 1 room like WAR, where everyone zerges the keep door and if you don't make it, tough. There are multiple attack points, multiple entrances to each keep, and the capacity to actually use some strategy (which WAR had minimal of).

    - It's polished. Sure, it may not have the level of content as certain other games *i think u know what i'm referring to* that have been out for the better part of a decade, but for a launched product it has plenty.

    - It offers a variety of classes, without getting too bogged down by variety (there's a nice balance between variety / customization, and stability / balance).

    - It doesn't have the horrendous scenario mechanic WAR does (no magically *poof*ing to an off-site pvp location).

Really, the biggest potential problem Aion may face, is instancing. Even with the 3minute cooldown timer, the ability to switch instances is a bit too easy as it stands currently. It may need some additional restrictions. Other than that the pvp should be promising, and should survive at least another year.

So, the guy making the video didnt change his ui options.. maybe you should be paying attention tot he fact that within that sea of names there was no lag.

that is how world pvp should be.. if you dont like the names, then do what i do, turn them off.

nice find. There's a lot of PvP / fortress vids floating around, but I missed that one.

One I like even more than how fluid the engine handles masses of players, is the fact that in most of the pvp videos you see a LOT of mobility. You have people all over the place. Flying, flanking, tanking, AoEing, running for their lives (lol) it's all there.

This means that PvP will not only be a blast, but certain classes (like ranger / assassin) which rely on a certain degree of surprise / burst damage will have multiple ways of accomplishing such.

Keep in mind melee classes can pull, so the combat is going to have multiple methods of going down, i dont know how anyone who has seen actual aion pvp can compare it to WoW or Warhammer.

Aion is going to own those games in pvp.

Are you talking about the channels? There are no channels past (about) the lvl 19/20 area. Essentially at a certain point there are no more channels.

Yeah cause WAR didn't promise a whole area(zone) for pvp? Tier 4 zones had plenty of zone area pvp. Too bad it didn't work out well.

3 factions doesn't matter if the PVP still sucks imo. If WAR had 3 factions I still wouldn't play it.

The whole comparision is because you can get Abyss Points in PVE similiar to how you could get them in WAR by taking keeps and avoiding combat.

What you're talking about were the scenarios that WAR had that are similiar to WoW bgs. WAR actually had scenarios and open world pvp.

For the record I hope Aion does kickass , but you can see the concern.

yanje03 - "First, I wont say War End game is a failure and actually it was designed pretty good. if Aion pvp end game is as good as WAR, I am happy with it. WAR dont real have much level grinding and enough pve contents but a pure pvp game. its game play life time is about 5-8 month for most players. wow is about 12 ~ 18 month life time because its huge pve contents. lotro is about 8-12 month. none of them is a bad game. but none could keep anyone play forever. we need buy and keep playing new game so game company would like to develop new games faster."

The reason why I'd call WAR End game fail is because they completely encourage you to avoid combat. Why fight someone and risk losing if you can just capture undefended points and keeps for realm points? If you ever get into a big fight the side that loses just changes zones and looks for undefended points.

The first guy that hit cap realm rank zerged insanely and avoided combat he would lose and would just take undefended keeps etc.

This is pretty much what I saw during sieges. We'd win a siege and start to hold off attackers and then people would get antsy. someone actually said "so what are we doing here? Just skirmishing?"

"well no, we are holding the keep"

But then people would want to just find another undefended keep. I was amazed. completely the opposite of L2 where you fight to keep your castle.
