Sorry if you consider my opinion ignorant. I'm guessing at the age of 14 you probably have a lot more experience than someone more than twice your age who's studied religion for years.

Back on topic. WoW is a fantasy MMORPG, and since religion is all based entirely on unquantifiable fantasy I can't see the problem with using the word "Holy" in certain spells. Many other RPGs have used the word, why not this one?

What next? Are they gonna change the name of "Priests" to "Buffers" so as not to offend anyone?

Hell yeah, maybe we should sue their QA Department for offending our refined tastes in sanity. Easy on the kid though, man... he's only 14. image

The removal of the word "Holy" from any aspect of the game is insane. There is some sort of religion based in WoW bacause there are Priests. And it's not like the term "Holy" is based in one religion.
Reducing the breast size on any character model is irrelevant as long as one can distinguish between males and females. If the genders in the game look identical, then it's pointless to have different genders in the game at all. Or for all those wanting sexier character customization, ask for varying breast sizes.::::01::

It is good to want a beautiful character, to a point. But when you startb whining about a breast reduction...come on. I am thinking that conversations like these is what is scaring away a broad female audience from this genre of games and the misconception of how women should be portrayed is what is pushing a lot of my female friends away from games in general.
Kind of sad, really, for games like Lineage 2. I thought I was going to like the game until when I firt logged in, I hit a huge lag spike and then I saw a person named "LilDarkElfHottie!" spamming in general chat that "I'm so horny, come take a peek up my skirt then visit my webcam." I would almost consider that game depressing.

I don't really want WoW to go down that road.

The word "Holy" being taken out of the game was taking it a little too far. I was somewhat confused when it happened. At first, I thought it was a joke because some troll made the first topic I read about it:
""OMGODZ!!! BLIZZARD ARE TAKEING HOLY OUT OF TEH GAMEZOR?!?!///1? OMFG LOLOLOLOL!!!! LOLLERSKATES + ROFFLECOPTER ATTACK = POONT!!!1"
It gave me a good laugh then I went and looked at the WoW site and was kind of sad. I mean Priests are pretty much based all around Religion. If you want to take Religion out of the game, that mean's you will have to name the Priests something other than Priest and you will have to change a lot of other things like the type of spells they cast, how they cast them and even down to the clothes they can wear.

I understand that the WoW team is trying pitch its game to a younger audience and that's fine.  Mass market MMOs are no place for adult content that might be offensive to adults themselves or to the kids that the adults are supervising.  After all, it's most likely that the adults in the household will be paying for the game's subscription fee.   But I do think that the developers are going way over board and need a reality check.  As mentioned, taking the word "holy" our of a priest's spell line redefines the very word "priest."  And they really lose touch with reality and wander off in some never-never PC land when they made "black" a curse word that is filtered by the obscenity filter.  That is obscene in and of itself.

Long term, the game would spawn groups like Nazis or something. That would be bad if we had an Undead Hitler running around spewing out racial comments.

I think that the rating board is getting tougher to, mature to NC-17 ratings are easier to get now. To avoid them you have to tone things down to a rediculous level. Blizzard may have to do it because of our government buracrecy not because they like too.

You ppl. saying that WoW is too "kiddy" might want to open your eyes. The crude sexual humor alone proves you wrong.

Overall, I think it's great that Blizzard is doing what they are, and moving away from their chaotic Bnet format, where there are practically no rules. Everyone that has played on Bnet knows that all ppl. do is swear, act like children, demean based on race and nationality, and so on.

You may want to play L2, I thank Blizz is trying to avoid some of the problems of L2, dark elfs with names like "NiggaElf" and rampant cybering (asking someone to have a sex chat for gold, so they can "take care of business" at there keyboard in game). I hated that my girlfriend would not be able to play because of the spaming she would get from these pervs. image

And the racism was all over, and GMs did nothing.

I am glade Blizz takes it to such lengths, that tells me I will have a better time playing. image

Atleast we are not stuck playing the game. There are always different things you can do. But I remember vividly what you are describing. I am surprised how blatant some of the cases were and when I contacted a GM they either couldn't understand the problem or just said "There is nothing we can do."

With a GM staff like that, I am surprised that the game has any fan base, but it still seems to be doing well. So odd. If that could have been played as a single player game, I might would have purchased it.

Yea, L2 is/was out of control...I stopped playing a long time ago. WoW is nowhere near that bad though. I was talking to my g/f about the whole breast thing and she has always stated that she'd like to be able to set the breast size on her female chars. Some just don't match the look she is going for. I believe that within a limit there is no harm. As for religion...well who knows why they took the word Holy out of the game. What are they replacing it with?

Why should Chirstians be against Jews? I remember what their ansestors did to Christ not the current population, if they do not believe what I believe I am not going to change their faiths by beating up their toons LOL.

LOL prob think that Allah and the 'christian god' *I would type his name but it's a jewish name since he was originally the Jew's god only =P* isn't the same too. *historical fact.*

Anyone heard of Lilith? She came before Eve... whoops think I offended someone.  /smirk

Man messed with religion for ages no wonder there is so many people who are faithless. When you go have faith like sheep to a slaughter people tend to think that way...

I thought the word "Holy" was removed so that the horde could have preists still.. But then I guess not cause I believe palidans lost the word holy too. Funny how such little stuff bothers so many people. It's not like blizzard is try'n to make one god better than another, it's just the one they picked for this game. People should really stop getting offended over nothing. Today's society is all about stereotypes, everyone is categorized as something. Just because others aren't in your group doesn't mean you can't have fun together.

See you're mistaken, completely mistaken in assuming that on some sort of a religious level I'm offended or something, while that is far from the case. I have no problem whatsoever with there being horde characters with something on the complete opposite side of the spectrum. There should be Undead Priests with UNHOLY spells.

I by no means think that their should be religions from our world in this game at all, nor anything even indirectly related to one. However, the word Holy transcends just about every religion out there and doesn't point to any one in particular at all.

What I'm offended by is Blizzard's lameassity in this issue. If they wanna be stupid about terms like "holy" they should really think about taking priests out of the game as well, as (like I said before) a belief in a "god" is one of the defining characteristics of their class. Here's a definition, straight from the Miriam-Webster Ditionary for you if you don't believe me, I'm sure it will convince you that Priests need to be removed from the game altogether.

Priest: One authorized to perform the sacred rites of a religion especially as a mediatory agent between humans and God; specifically : an Anglican, Eastern Orthodox, or Roman Catholic clergyman ranking below a bishop and above a deacon.

It seems like Priest is way too hard core of an identifying word here, and is referring almost specifically to Christian denominations!! image

Either that, or the lazy-ass devs could emulate the ones from everquest, and ever other game thus far and make up deities for this class and others. While this may sound odd, it was-kinda... But at the same time it was really interesting picking a religion for you class and you had different factions to contend with, and other ones as friends due to your choice. This made for some very interesting game play as well as role-playing.

Basically, I'm just sick of everything being watered down to PC (not PG-although they're pretty much the same thing) status. Every where I look everything has to be changed to accomodate everyone's feelings and it's getting totally asinine. There's no way that we can make it so that nothing that will offend anyone without living in a society of robots living stainless-steel lives in non-offensive pastel colours, replete with a Phil Collins soundtrack. Give me a freakin' break. Even then, you'd have myself and a few others offended by being forced to live life in such a manner- but of course, since the system offended us, it'd just be too bad. This idiocy needs to be stopped at some point before it seriously goes too far.

How come whenever I start hearing a conversation about tolerance of Religion and Race, I always hear the word "Ignorant" spewed out a lot...?
I think it's because back in the "Old Days," as my Grandpah called them, When people were fighting for African-American freedom/rights that when they ran across a racist person, they would call them "Ignorant."
Why "Ignorant" though? Why not "stupid" or "idiotic." The word "Ignorant" pisses me off. Especially when used in a conversation between two people who, infact, think one another is "Ignorant."

You morons. I said tweens and above, meaning that Blizzard is targeting ppl. that are around 12 and older. You should be able to tell that by just visiting their forums and reading a few threads.

It's amazing how ppl. can misunderstand you when the words are right in front of their faces. image

Does anybody here know allot of young teens or adolescents who play RTS?

Me neither. Assuming that Diablo fans will play warcraft in any setting is foolhardy at best. I think too many people are wrong about the age group this title will actually attract.

That being said I do like the name filter for the most part. I really think they may be going overboard by filtering out names with a religious reference other than maybe eliminating the big ones (Buddha, Allah, Jesus, Jehovah) beyond those I think it becomes futile.

I don't really see sexually graphic representations being a problem in this game seeing as all in all it is basically a cartoon. The size of a cartoons breasts are of little concern to most people but for the sake of making character customization a bit more interesting I say its probably a good move.
