LOL...sorry for the smack talk, but Im so tired of Aion fanbois talking that game up....anyway...
Im in closed beta and let me say that Champions Online is an amazing game so far.
Id go into further detail, but I dont want to go against cryptic's wishes.
It's a fresh new experience that, although can be compared to other games in small bits, cannot be tied to any game(or group of games) altogether...very unique, immersive and enjoyable. They've sold me

You are an awful troll.
A CO fanboi talking smack to Aion fanbois, classic
After playing both i ll agree with you. Aion is decent but not the godesnd people are making it out to be.

Maybe its just not the godsend for you but for those it is. As for myself it seems ok, but ive only played it for a day so IDK. I like it better than WoW but I thought WoW was boring as hell. Was thinking about giving this game a try but I couldn't even stand to play CoX after a few hours, I guess super hero games aren't my cup of tea.
Well this is new... Someone in the beta with something good to say about Champion's Online.
The CO fans need to realize that this game isn't going to be anything but a diving board to fund work on STO. The cash shop stuff isn't about making money to fund additional work on CO.
This game's going to crash and burn hard when DC comes out. I've seen both games, its no contest.
1. No I'm not a troll
2. I've played both Aion and Champions Online
3. Why the hell would Champions Online be only a means to fund a game that will only appeal to a small crowd?
As for Aion, take everything that Aion does(aside from the chain skills) and make it better, faster and for one particular thing, last much longer and you have Champions Online...I'd still say that if you want a PVP centered game, Champions might not be for you....but for all those PVE'ers you should at least give Champions a try. The character creation is THE BEST. It cant be beat only because of all the options you have. Travel skills are great, fighting is fast and fun(not as fast as a typical action game thought) and leveling up has come with some hard investment decisions as far as skills go, which was a breath of fresh air.
This is coming from someone that COULD NOT play City of Heroes/Villains because I just didnt like any aspects of the game. Champions Online is DEFINITELY not City of Heroes 2.

I've seen both games and played one of them as well and I can't say I share your opinion. But maybe that's becuase I didn't pull mine from out my ass.
Note: I'm talking about DCOU and CO here. I've already played AION for a month and it was terribad.

It's their finger that's dirty? I thought it was their head they had firmly shoved up their butt....
Butt seriously..... ok ok I'll stop :P
I haven't played CO, and won't with this payment model.
I wouldn't have looked sideways at Aion otherwise, but pre-ordered to give it a go and it's excellent for what it is. It's a better version of other games in the same EQ-style category. It's not what I'd planned to play next month, but it's enjoyable enough and a straight subscription with no MTs so it'll do at least until something a bit more interesting comes along.
LoL Can't all us fanboiz just get along (^_^)V
I don't think that's where the RMT dollars will be going.
There's a $48 million bonus attached to the sale of Cryptic to Infogrames (who then gave it to Atari as a rescue package) based on net profits by 2011 for CO and STO.
Excellent news!
So, do you feel CO is looking at 40+ populated servers within a few months of release?

My money is on just 1 populated server for CO. After all, it is a niche genre.
Beta tested CO and Aion. Bought Aion. Just saying.
Ok now Ive played both games.
I enjoyed both , ..... but not very long.
Im still playing Champions and preorderd it.
Aion I got to lvl 36 and it just got way to boring and its replay ability is just crap. Its extremely linear and EVERYONE is the same. Ooooo Stygma Stones. but the thing about the stygma stones is that most of the stygma skills suck so everyone gets the same stones.
Champions is a fully customizable game which in general makes it better AT FIRST. But then if you take all of the best stuff from multiple games including CoH/V you get Champions. Aion has Champions beat on gfx but that is purely because of the cartoonistic nature of Champions. In the end I just liked Champions more. Most people who try aion hate it. 3 of every 5 people dont like it or say I wish I hadnt preorderd this. And there are already psrvs going up for aion which is just pathetic.
As for the newer SOE game DCUO , its not the same type of game. Its a Hero Genre game but its a action rpg. So all 3 games are nothing alike.
Champions gets my vote. and I hope that with all the talk of Aion. I hope it fails and drags ncsoft under with it.
Since they're giving a cash shop and a monthly fee game in the same package, the game must be damn good for its own sake.
i preordered champions because im sick and tired of playing your typical fantasy type games. im looking forward to the comic book style graphics etc.. Got some friends playing Aion right now and they love it. ive never quite understood why people get pissed at other people on here and bash them for likingn something that they dont like. everyones entitled to their opinion.
As for the MT function of Champions. They have said that any game changing item is obtainable in game. Along with the normal ttypes of items like extra costume parts or xp potions and stuff along that line. Those things are expected. However MT is not a must or a have to. It is a decision you choose to do. You do not have to give them more money past the subscription if you dont want to. It makes it convienent for those who dont have alot of time to farm or get those items. It helps casual players who want to lvl and not farm for an item. The more important part here is. IT IS OPTIONAL and... if you do preorder you get a small taste of what you can get. Dont be suprised if Aion ends up picking up MT to. Its already in dicussion. Hell I wouldnt put it past NCSoft to do what the chineese company did and make you pay per game time. Not monthly.
Champions Online is a nice game to spend 20 minutes creating a character on and then playing for a weekend (Cryptic's forte) but that's about it. I personally find a PvP/RvR based end-game to be much more exciting. I'm hoping Aion will deliver where others have failed, and so far everything indicates that they will be able to pull through.
Super hero games suck as much as sci fi, and have fun with your pvp, fighting other good guys and npcs sounds like fun (not really).
If you can obtain the "game changing" items through playing the game versus buying them with real money, why wouldn't you just play the game to get them? What exactly are you paying to play a game for if you're just going to buy the game's rewards without experiencing the content involved? The argument that this helps casual players by removing "farming" is bunk. This is nothing but a way for the company to squeeze more money out of gullible people under the guise of helping them get past the less desirable elements of their game. Why would I ever want to touch a game who's own development team has told me that it would be better if I simply bought the rewards with real cash rather than actually playing their game? No thanks. It's such an obvious scam I can't believe so many people are defending it.
I'm opposed to MTs on principle and have zero respect for anyone who uses an item shop in a subscription based MMO. Personally I think it should be illegal for a game to offer an item shop when there is a monthly fee attached.
I'm not sure why you think MTs are "in discussion" in Aion, but I'll wager you don't have any proof whatsoever and are just trying to discredit another game to make CO look slightly better. You can speculate all you want, but the reality is simply that CO has MTs and Aion does not.
For me, this means I'm trying Aion (and liking it) but I won't touch CO. MTs are an instant deal breaker for me and I hope they ruin this game and this company. The greed has to be stopped somewhere.
CO was high in my "next to try" games list.
Unfortunately I don't condone RMT on top of subscription, therefore I will not touch this game, no matter how good it might be.
For those with no clue what cosmetic means: go and try Everquest 2.
It has RMT implemented as well. Going into more details is pointless, as I never cared for there are some guys running around with shiny helmets w/o any attributes.
But that is just me. Your taste, your deal-breaker.
Having had a chance to play CO finally I really, really, really, enjoyed it. It was by far the best time I have ever had in any MMO and I'm eagerly awaiting the next time the server is up.
About this whole MT bit....who gives a hoot? Principles? For video games? I guess I just dont understand that philosophy. If a game company wants to sell cosmetic items I say go for it.
Just a little whisper to all you principled gamers out there(The more money a game company brings in, the more revenue they have to enhance a game even more)
For those that desire a PVP endgame, I said in an earlier post that Champions Online might not fit that role. Aion is more suited towards that type of player(although I still think Aion is a weak game in general)
I really just love the people who want a reason to flame. CO in my opinion is a better game than Aion. Alot of people think the same and alot of people think otherwise.
Again if you hate rmt no one said you have to purchase the items in the item mall. IT IS OPTIONAL. I dont know what the big deal is. SO WHAT IF A COMPANY WANTS TO MAKE SOME EXTRA MONEY? IT IS THERE RIGHT? AND IT IS THE PEOPLES RIGHT TO SPEND THEIR MONEY IF THEY CHOOSE TO DO SO.
