As the title says i am downloading the torrent now and have decided to give this a go for myself, i have read almost every review and opinion about this game and im so bored i thought id give darkfall a go. I will be playing on the EU server since im from the UK and was basically wondering what advice people can give me. I am a very experienced fps player so i know the basics of that side of combat but ye any hints or tips would be great, i will be playing UK time so any EU/UK guilds for new starters? and what type of skills should i raise asap?

Take a 2H-weapon as your main weapon. The 1H-weapons have too short a range to be effective in combat.

Polearm still looks like the most popular choice, and I would have chosen that today. It has the highest damage, the longest range and the widest arc, making it hard to miss in the frantic in-fights.

You will have to be good at all the fighting styles to be competitive: Archery for long range, magic for medium/close range, melee for close range.

Weapons and archery will first be truly competitive when you get mastery (called sharpshooter for archers). Magic will first be really competitive when you reach Elemental magic - which is pretty hard and costs alot of resources.

If I were you - as a beginner - I would begin with Archery and hold off with magic.

When you are out, you still need to use magic. You have Lesser Magic by default (get yourself a staff ASAP, buy one as a beginner weapon). Use Mana Missile when out, along with weapon/archery. That way your mana bar won't just sit idle, but be a resource for you to use.

Remember that newbie weapons *DO NOT* increase your skill! So if you want to increase skill, you need a "real" weapon.

There is no skill-cap, so you can train yourself in everything. To get the weapon of your choice, you will probably need to take up weapon crafting pretty fast, as only 1H-swords drop reliably. If you go mine ore and chop lumber and then smelt/cut them for ingredients for weapon smithing, you can be self reliant on weapons very fast.

You buy all skills that you don't start with at vendors.
