So I've given WoW a try and it's alright I guess, the grind is a bit much but I do like the polish it has.
I'm looking into something else to play. Sadly all the games I'm looking forward too are a long ways off (ST: TOR, ST:O, SG: W, etc) so I'm seeking a new game.
Something that's P2P, no free games or ones with microtransactions to make your toon better. Something American based, no Japanese or Korean MMO's, something with depth and polish (i.e. nothing like AoC @ launch). And something pvp based.
*NOTE* I've tried Eve, Darkfall, WAR, Eve takes too long & you can't be competitive as someone who started Day 1, Darkfall too expensive to give it a try before buying since it has no demo and WAR, not my cup of tea.
MMO's in general I've played or tried (in no particular order);
Anarchy Online
UO
Shadowbane
Neocron 2
WoW
Eve
DF
WAR
Archlord
Guildwars
Runes of Magic
Dungeon Runners
Hero Online
Flyff
Maple Story
I'm simply looking for a company to take my $15 each month and gimme a decent game to play.

GIve EVE a try for about 2 months, that's how much you need time-wise to level up enough combat and flying skills to be competitve in PvP. Sure you always have the 1,2,3... years vets with uber T2/T3 ships and the associated equipment, but you'll enjoy PvP in low sec (chasing down players with less seniority).
Download EVEMon and Eve Fitting Tool to plan your way into pvp and the right equpment/ship, 2 months and you're set to go.
Earthrise is coming within the next 6 months. It is skill based like Eve, but is on the ground. Looks like it might be a moderate game.
Generally Earthrise is compared to Tabula Rasa and Eve.

Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.
Sadly there is only one game that meets your criteria but its not out yet.
Mortal Online.
Yea, Eve looks alright BUT I'm not going to devote 2 months time to playing catch up, I prefer somethin pvp based with far less grind..
My beef with EVE was that it seemed like, unless you had some very well connected friends, you almost had to have two accounts to be competitive: one for making money, and one for PvP, especially if you don't have unlimited time to play. Am I wrong?
I think you may be right. My friend who has played EvE for years basically said the same exact thing yesterday.
"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."
If you cant handle WoW's grind, you cant handle a grind, PERIOD.
Go play a FPS.
I come from MMO's where I could reach level cap in a matter of days, or in some cases in a matter of a day.
I mean WoW is so focused on grouping, questing, etc I'm used to just going and soloing to max level OR getting in a guild-related power leveling group.
I don't want an FPS. And no I don't want some hybrid FPS/RPG type ordeal like COD4 or Fallout 3 that has RPG-like elements to it. I want a pvp based mmo with little grind that isn't in the list I posted above. Hell for all I know, there may not be one on the market like that atm (DF dont count).
Nothing that meets the description of what you are looking for is out right now.
But keep your eye on Global Agenda. It has a normal monthly subscription, no "Micro Tansactions" (AKA "Cash Shops"), and has a heavy focus on PvP combat. It also has PvE but from the sound of things the PvE will be a secondary concern to the PvP and only exists to give people a chance to build up their characters a bit before jumping into the PvP.
Its still in the early beta stages right now but is supposed to launch later this year. Based on the screen shots, gameplay videos and the opinions from people currently in beta I'm predicting success for this game. Keep in mind I'm one of the most jaded gamers out there and I expect that most MMOs will fail, so if I'm predicting success for anyting then that should really tell you something.

you eliminated every choice out there. have you considered the possibility that you secretly hate this genre?
