Will "open" beta really be open?

So I have read that open beta is scheduled to be august 17th. I am assuming that this phase of the beta will be open to any and all player who wish to participate? I think this is generally assumed of an "open" beta, however I read the information regarding the pre order for the game on gamestop.com, and they list "open beta access" as one of the perks to pre ordering, and they go on to say "get guaranteed access to the champions online beta test set to launch on august 17!" This leads me to believe that the so called open beta is in fact a closed beta. Can anyone clear this up for me? Thank you.

It's a fileplanet "Open" beta--so no, not really open in the sense of anyone and everyone.

Some of the more recent mmos have meant that the NDA is dropped and discussion about the game is 'open' by beta players.

if they're only allowing 50k beta testers for "open" beta, but their numbers for a successful MMO is 100k, I would think they would want 100k beta testers so they could test their systems for real.

50K beta players + current CB players which is around 20k or something + People who pre-ordered.

 

They'll have around 100k for OB.
