To those of you in beta and some experience with the game I wanted an honest opinion. Been playing MMO's for a while and recently resubbed to aoc and am enjoying it. The main reason I like aoc so much is that dueling with my hox is an absolute blast. Love the class, combos, having to run and time them to hit, cc and cc breakers, circle strafing and the fast paced battle and skill needed to play the class. It's a far departure from a lot of games where you click or just use the same spells and combos in a preset order and for me has lacked a lot of familiar redundancy with mmo's. The game though certainly has a few issues and before I jumped ship and bought aion I would like to know your thoughts on if I would be satisfied with aion's pvp. I want it to be hard to mastered and very skill oriented and not just use this spell now clicking fest. I want my fingers to be sore because I have so many hotkeys and need to be pressing them in a frantic method. Well maybe not sore but you get the idea. So, could aion pvp possibly be for me?

Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.
I already feel like I'm doing a lot in combat on my Assassin. I, too, played a HoX in AoC and I certainly think there are more things you need to use and worry about in Aion. In AoC it felt like all I had to do was hellstep > Morph and then use a combo or two of mine and I'd cut their head off.
Aion's PvP certainly is fast paced though, and if you enjoy fast paced nature you'll definitely like the assassin class.
This has certainly changed though post 1.5 patch. With the increased life of all players and the rise of the possession tree the battles are very varied, longer and quite intense. I just want to know that a lot of skill, movement and knowledge will be required to win. I've seen great players take down average and barely get hit unlike WOW where you find a good build, gear and you can be pretty proficient at battle. I've been watching videos and a few of the people were clicking instead of hotbinding keys and doing quite well. If you are able to get away with this in Aion it may not be fore me. Just curious and would love to hear more juxtapositions of the pvp aspects of each. The videos definitely look cool and fun but that doesn't necessarily translate into dynamic, complicated and skillful.
I think if you found AoC to be a game that took skill than, yes, you should think Aion does as well.
I agree, in PvP moving around in combat not only keeps your opponent on their toes, but also gives you bonuses depending on which direction you are moving.
It's not a huge advantage but if you took two gladiators with exactly the same setup and put them against each other with 1 using minimal movement and the other one using their combat movement bonuses to their fullest potential, the moving gladiator would win the majority of the time.
Also with roughly 40 unique attacks at level 50 + stigmas + potions to manage + movement bonuses + worrying about your other groupmates; I'm going to make a guess that tactics and player skill play a pretty important role in high-end PvP combat.
"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."
Sounds like it is at least worth taking a look at. I'm going to research it more and see if I pull the trigger. Thanks
Aion is a very skill based game. WoW feels turn based compared to Aion where PvP is the main focus. Knowing how to move, when to use skills and which ones to use is the most important knowledge to success.
Clicking skills in aion will only lead to DISASTER.
Watching videos though it seems like there is a bit of just hitting your hot keys and not a whole lof of moving around such which does make it look less interesting than aoc's melee combat. I think I'll wait till I can try it out on a friends computer. The animations are top notch but I want strafing and circling to be necessary and keyboard turning something that will never let you be among the better pvpers.
Of course Aion is turned base. It, like wow has hot keys in which you can get in an "extra" hit but all these games are turn based and all have a "roll of the dice" going on. By saying one or the other isnt is just fooling yourself .
Mindless bashing. Even Wow requires split second reactions in pvp. Having a global cooldown does not even come close to turn based. And if there was no dice rolling in the background, it's a pure twitch game, those probabilities inserted by the rpg mechanics make it more tactical as you have to plan ahead keeping those potential rolls in mind.
I only did a few duels, but I found Aion's combat system to be very entertaining for PvP. As an assassin, I found that constantly strafing and jumping around to expose my enemy's backside was extremely effective in PvP.
Everyone that I dueled who did not move around constantly lost very quickly.
The others posed a challenge, but I still usually won
All in all, I think you will find that those who stand still will always be the first to fall on the battlefield. Unfortunately I never got far enough in the beta to experience the Abyss, but I have found the PvP in Aion very entertaining thus far.
I played AoC as well, but I felt that PvP in that game was very imbalanced towards certain classes and that it was literally impossible to win in many situations. I did not feel this way at all in Aion... it seems much more balanced.
Yep was going to say about assassin myself hehe
You wont enjoy it when i pwn your ass
If you watch The Karate Kid backwards it's about this karate champ that just kinda slowly becomes a pussy and ends up moving back to Jersey

Ive played several MMO's and have yet to play one that isnt turn based. Take your toon into any area, run up and hit a mob, take hands off keyboard. What happens? Your toon, hits the mob, the mob hits your toon. All this takes place and if you do not use your special skills buttons it will continue until your toon or the mob is dead. Its called turn based combat and has been used in RPG's for years.
What I meant was the Global Cooldown FEELS more turn based. Whacking on enemies feels sluggish in comparison to Aion. Going from one skill to another as a melee class feels like a flow, somewhat like playing an arcade fighter game. There's even a parody on Youtube where they make a staged Aion pvp fight look like one.

I think your right. The Aion "chain" attacks are very well done and planning them along with the damage or block enabled by movement makes it much more hands on as well. Ive played both games and while ive yet to do any PVP in AIon im excited at the prospect. At the very least i will be able to say ive never been killed by a better looking toon.
That's the kind of pvp enthusiasm I like to hear . Bring it chump
LOL hope you like to die alot when questing !!! PvP is very fun when you are in large groups. The best/worst thing so far as i can see is in the 20's when Rifts open and the other sides brings in like 20-30 ppl and go around killing everyone that is soloing their quest. Am not a big PvP type but this game has change me mine alot. The Abyss is just plan HARD as hell to PvP in until you get use to the whole flight thing. After that its not all that bad. All i can say is that you better stay in groups when you lvl unless you like to die alot.
Played Aoc/DDO/FFXI/WAR / LoTRo / CO / Aion
Playing Rift
Waiting for FFXIV to be the game it should. so sad =(

Well when you do partake in pvp in aion be sure to let me know as I am liking the comparisons and am getting a better idea of what is involved that's really not portrayed, apparently, in the videos.
