Holy shit!!!! Square is making a god damn No level, skillbased MMO. I never in my life thought that these guys would make a sandboxish mmo. this bastard is on my list.
Where do you get the SKILL BASED from??? they are doing nothing but eliminating probably a years worth of effort and coding, this game sounds A lot like The Last Remnant, witch i had a hard time playing for more than 20 minutes at a time,it got boring real fast.
It will have no levels, just hidden numbers, this way nobody will have a clue what they are doing, they have always liked to keep a lot of in game stuff hidden. You will not be putting 2 pts into STR and 2 into WIS like you think. You will be button mashing flashing icons on a screen to perform weapon skills/combos,this is probably how your weapons will advance. This is called arcade type game play, real kiddie stuff,100% not my cup of tea.
I get a real gut feeling that the next time i see any more information on the game,it will probably make me forget all about this game,i would rather no more information until release,at least that way i still have some hope.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

if I use a sword in FFXIV over time I will get better with my sword. Its me leveling my Sword SKILL right there its a skill based game.
It's not how arcade and kiddie games work its how MMos were originally intended on being played (uo)
Get ur ass kicked enough in heavy armor and you get better at absorbing damage in that armor, use a sword alot and you raise your damage, cast a fire spell and after a while ur a master fire wielder.
MMOs arent supposed to have shitty static classes they're supposed to be flexible this is why i dont consider mmos with static classes real mmos.
Im glad FFXIV is doing ti this way and not pulling a WoW/Eq on us.
Because I've never seen NO LEVELS and NO EXPERIENCE work in an MMO...
UO had no levels and no experience and it worked quite well. If FF14 ends up borrowing ideas from UO (and bucks the trend of imitating EQ-style games) I will be very, very happy.

Personally i think people are starting to assume way to many things. Thats due partially to the naive nature of MMO fans I guess.
This game seems to be on all types of players radar (except PvP'ers). Casual, hardcore, sandboxers some group is going to be seriously let down.
Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore) Now Playing: N/A Worst MMO: FFXIV Favorite MMO: FFXI

You're absolutely right. I did forget about UO being skill based. And I agree with your sentiments. Good catch.

UO had levels. They just weren't obvious to the user.
Remember the joy's of macroing in UO? Why would people to macro? To raise skills... and how was a skill measured? In points. So a person with 10 total skill points over all his skills would be crushed by one with hundreds.
That smells like "Levels" to me.
Skill based games are class/level based games that hide the level from the user. That's the only difference. They require no more "skill" than to read the "template of the month" on some website and respec (which is absurd from a roleplaying point of view).
UO was an abomination, Meridian 59 was more like EQ1 (and the REAL "MMORPG" template games, MUD's) than UO. UO was just a cobbled together Ultima game that let multiple people play at the same time. And it proved the folly of open PvP for everyone to see, so it did serve some purpose.

Nahh for me personally I've been a Final Fantasy fan since I played the first one on my NES.
If it turns out to just be straight up classes and basic weapon leveling ill still give it a go.
Tbh with the Exception of Final Fantasy X-2 every FF game has been a delight to play.
