I just had a very dissapointing thought session.
If DDO is going to be free, there is going to be a cash shop, isn't there?
Is there any confirmation of a cash shop happening? If so, do you reckon DDO will fail from it, due to disadvantaged players who don't have a Credit card etc.
Comments
Yes there will be a cash shop where you can buy stuff for turbine points. But you still can pay a monthly subscription so you get access to everything in the game + you get 500 TP every month so I dont see a problem.
Why would people without a credit card have a disadvantage?

If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
Test it yourself, beta is until 09.09.2009 (what a date!).
I can only say I though the same before I actually tried it. Turbine had absolutely outstanding idea with this implementation. You can pretty much grind Turbine Points while questing if you don't want to spend a penny. Though I'm sure there will be some poeple (beside VIPs) that will make Turbine earn at least 2x what they earned from old DDO. And they will be able tu further expand player base with each update, making it potentially indefinite flow of players.
Can you imagine (knowing how big instance Harbor is) that there are 2 harbor and Marketplace instances every day now on beta? And in stress tests there's much more of them. People play like mad, even with that delay. Which suprised me. I wasn't going to play until premiere, but logged in yesterday and... wow, there's more and more people playing.
