What "role" would you do in FF XIV?

in Final Fantasy XIV

The title speaks for itself. Now, thanks to recently released news, we now know the current "roles" that will be inside the game:

Fighter: Swordsman, Archer.

Sorcerer: Enchanter, Warlock.

Crafter: Blacksmith, Cook.

Gatherer: Gardner, Fisherman.

Now, we do not know alot right now about how the game mechanics will work (expect an updated edit of this forum when we finally find out). But, right now by just looking at these "roles," how would you set up your character?

I would personally work on a few select things. I would try to build a "holy knight" from FF Tactics. This means I would create a standard Swordsman, but work on White Magic-type spells, as well as other various support spells and abilities. Of course I would be using a sword and shield (although the katana from FF XII looks fun too), and I would wear heavy armor, but I would try to enhance the armor to work well with magic. So I would be a sword/shield tanker that can heal/support others, and cast some Holy magic to help shake opponents up with magic attacks (by the way, I am crossing my fingers that there will be a Northswain's Strike and Holy Bolt attack). Finally, I'd work on Blacksmith (I like crafting items and selling them).

So, what would your role be?

    I'll probably take a shot at Blacksmith first then later on try to subjobbing(?) Enchanter....

    Dunno that enchanter is the one that i'm thinking of, but I'll go for magical weapon maker.

     

    If that goes well, then it could fuel my magical knight (sorcerer + fighter).

    I'd want to do everything. Thats what I liked about FF11, my char could do everythign if I worked on it hard enough. :D

    Where is my WHM???

    You need to get out of this wow crap. There is no warlocks or Enchanters in FF .................... any of them. Enchanter is not a healer. A debuffer and a buffer is what that is. Warlock is a DD or buffer.. with a little bit of healing for his / her solo options.

    This is definately not a complete list I'm sure.

    But what does a fighter have to do with a crafter? In my mind those would be two seperate articles or paragraphs. Well in any event I will mostlikely be a taru healer type.

    No way a complete list for sure if they want to have players. I too will be playing a Taru WHM/healer. I hope it's still WHM. <3 I think I'm gonna start playing FFXI again while waiting for FFXIV..

    I'll probably be some combination of all categories, perhaps with a heavier focus on the swordsman and smith (boring, I know).  That's to start out atleast.  I definitely want to end up spending more time on the crafter and fielder categories as the game progresses (assuming crafting and gathering aren't excruciating like they were in ffxi).
