For you CoX people who are in beta, can I play a blaster?
I don't want to be a melee character, so can I play a character that uses rays, blasts, lasers etc?
I never want to punch a person. Can I play like this?
Comments
yes
d-uh
Why not both? Play a guy that blasts mobs from a distance and chops 'em up when they get close. It's possible.
There is NO miracle patch.
95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.
Hope is not a stategy.

One of the cool things about this game is your ability to go simple and take a powerset or break it down and mix and match (as seen in some of the vids). You can go straight blaster (Force, Darkness, lightning, fire, guns, etc) or a combo of melee and ranged. Take some sort of flight movement power and a ranged power set and blast away from the air too.
You can play whatever you want.
You can even be equally good at both melee and ranged without sacrificing power either way.
CO not only lets you customize your costume, it lets you customize your powers to a great degree.
Not only can you be a ranged-only character if you wanted, you can be a ranged-only character that has command over lightning, guns, and darkness... if that's what you wanted. Not just one of them, like a set ranged class in another game that only uses bows, or only uses fire/ice, etc.
The whole classless aspect will be pretty darn coo. That's the major thing that was missing from CoX series for me. I'm glad Cryptic stuck to their guns and went classless this time around
I am very addicted to the "munitions" skill set. It has one of the coolest ranged skills I've ever used in a game. And the mechanics are top-notch.
This game has "win" written all over it.

I'd nearly go so far as saying melee is a bad bad decision.
More on this when NDA is lifted... *cough cough*.
Well with people flying about with pew pew powers
doesn't seem like punching someone is going to be an easy task =P
The only way i could see Melee being viable in pvp combat is for the meleer to be faster on foot than a squishy. Guild wars was only game that had the right idea. In GW, Warriors were intended to be the fastest on foot. This way you can close range and open up a can on them. Ok so WoW also had this idea when they gave Warriors the Dash power to close range and deathknights had that deathgrasp to pull a target to them
In the old CoX game meleers were fairly worthless in PvP since everyone could grab superjump + superspeed travel powers. But what I did on my EM/ELA brute was grab the arachnos spider gun to slow people down. Then I closed range, stunned, and then popped them quick. Was fun
Now in PvE being a meleer was a real rush. Stone tankers and such were very valuable and well---- they totally overshadowed the rest of us meleers. Energy Melee Brutes (what I played along with Martial arts scrapper) we had best of both worlds. We were ok in pvp assuming the target was slowed for us or silly enough to let us get close. Plus we could tank nice
sigh, was good times
The power of City of heroes was always finding that secret combo that no one expects. In CO im thinking this will be x10 siunce they finally dumped the Class system
