So I didn't really understand this, well maybe. Are they saying when you start a new char. you can select what "skill" (craftin, sword, magic esc....) and you'll exel in those or you can pick like "none" and just have a general ability to learn?
(if so its gunna be hard, beacuse I wanna craft and do magic..but nothing else..)
But odds are I didn't understand it correctly.. :S

i think its more of a system where you can excel in multiple fields but it depends on how much time you invest in learning specific diciplines? ...im a bit confused now
They are saying you don't have to pick your role at the character creation screen (or maybe you pick a starting one but can just as easily switch it out). All you need to do to start progressing in magic and crafting would be to get a staff or rod, then the tools of whatever craft you want to learn (say a hammer for smithing). You equip each as you want to work on them. If that's all you want to learn, that's fine.
If you're wondering if it is possible to master everything simultaneously, SE hasn't decided whether it will be allowed yet, or not.
What I got out of it is you only really need one character just like in XI. Instead of going to a mog house to switch jobs you just equip a different weapon or a fishing pole for a fisherman or a hammer for blacksmith or whatnot. But who knows I could be wrong.
You could craft to the highest skill for a crafter but you'd have to go out and fight and train in combat to get to max skill on that job. You cant just craft and get to max skill on lets say Blackmage, that just wouldn't make any sense. Unlike in other games that may give you EXP for crafting and the EXP goes to the combat class and not a separate crafting EXP.
I guess that kinda makes sense.... could be read both ways I guess. I dunno, I would like some real game play info :S but probably to early yet.

I'd bet they are just general catagories of things you can do in the game. Would be rather shocking if they made you pick 1 or the other and stopped you from doing the rest.

You can't master everything simultaneously. I don't think that will ever be a possibility with SE. What they're considering is whether or not you'll be able to max out everything.
Master everything simultaneously would be performing as a fighter through the entire game, switching weapons, and being a master mage without any effort or experience.
Maxing everything is, as in XI, being able to get every job class to 75. For XIV, they're considering not allowing players to do that. Kind of like how you can only become a master at one craft while all the others are capped. I like this idea, generally, but I know many people won't. It doesn't affect or bother me one way or the other.

I think what they're baically saying is... how you develop your character is entirely up to you. You can choose to focus on a single discipline and excel in that alone... or you can choose to split your time up training in a variety of different areas.

You spelled disciplines correctly, by the way.
Love this I don't want to make multiple characters to play everything. Two characters is enough for me one for playing and other for holding/selling stuff I make.
