Is this game an alt-fest like COH?

If it is, I'm not getting it. I want something similar to Lineage 2, World of Wacraft, Final Fantasy XI, etc. where you have a reason to stick to one character due to gear progression. Or is this a casual game similar to CoH where you roll 234897234 level 50s.

I live to go faster...or die trying.

Its not like WoW or Lineage 2.  Its not a gear based progression game.  It does have how ever have the Nemesis and Omega system which are continous mid & end game content that changes when you beat your nemesis or complete the daily Omega missions.

Basically reach 25 Create your own Nemesis...go through progressive missions and hopefully beat him.  IF you beat him create another one.  The Omega system (opens at max level) is a daily set of missions that opens up an instance to get you some pretty cool stuff.  There's raids too but they've not said much.  It just won't be the sort of end game progression your used too.   These two systems are on top of all the other content / dungeons that are in the game.

Whether or not you make alot of alts is based on how you play the game..with WoW I've had dozens of alts..Lineage 2 was a grind so I said Ef it before it even launched.

basically dont' expect Gear to be a determining factor in your epeen.  It starts at less than 50% of your efficiency at lvl 1 and stays that way through end game.  It'll be all about the choices you make with leveling up your skills (and yes you can earn stuff to respect, make different alt builds etc without having to start over).  Personally I'll end up having several alts merely due to the sheer amount of possibilities since you build your own Class essentially.

btw this is all based off interviews and play walk throughs from Massively.com and TentonHammer.  How fun or engaging it is is all up in the air.

There are gonna be alot of alts because its a superhero game, you will be playing one day, or at work, and just come up with an idea for a hero and then come to CO and make that character. Now i played CoX for about a year and made over 20 characters but i never saw a point in getting to max level. ( my highest was 38) I hope in CO there is some sort of end game...i will still make tons of alt as i feel thats a huge part of the game but i also hope the game encourages you to play to max level and beyond.

    playing: Dragon Age
    Waiting: for FF14, Mass Effect
    Want to try: Fallen Earth

with the ability to have different specs that you can change on the fly, I dont think people will roll alts like in CoH.  I think you'll find more people rolling alts strictly due to the insane amount of unique toons you can make in the game.. not based on what the toon is capable of.

Nope, I'm sure it wont be, but I can't tell you why.

I don't know if we think it for the same reasons, but I concur.

I will have to agree on this also, since talking about the game now is breaking the NDA agreement that everyone agreed on when installing the game.
