As a beta tester and a fallout junkie

XandramasXandramas Member Posts: 73

I am a devout fallout fan; been plaing and loving the series since the first fallout. I dont feel this is a ripoff of the game at all. Its just set in a post apocalyptic world. Its a genre not a ripoff of another game.

I played it and really enjoyed its mechanics. The graphics are average but the gameplay is above average so it'll be worth spending money on and playing wether it has 25 million subs or not who cares. The game will be entertaining and if you play during launch you'll have people to play with so play it and have fun. The age of playing mmos for years on end is over so dont expect an outlook of years and you will enjoy the game and many other mmos that become released in the future.

I agree with you, and love the fact that you did not voilate the NDA ;)

Im not a fallout junkie, but a former SWG player. And I have finally found a new home. This is my replacement for SWG PRE-CU.

    The MMO gamer equation:
Social skills + anonymity = skill + toughness divided by actual ability.

There seem to be at least a few former SWG players on this forum who are beta testing FE. Some of them (like you) claim that FE will be the second coming of pre-CU SWG; however, I've seen at least one beta tester post that FE is awful and that he'd punch the next guy who compared FE to pre-CU SWG in the face.

I wonder who's right? I'm hoping it's you, since I loved pre-CU SWG (and have been a Fallout devotee since it released in 1997), but I wonder. Too early to tell, I guess.

I'm looking forward to trying this game out, and reading things like this makes it all the more exciting. I always get involved with the crafting part of MMORPGs, and this one really seems to have at least that part nailed down.

    Slacker extraordinaire!

I will punch anyone that compares FE to pre-CU SWG in the face.

    EDIT: Bad gramma

I dont like the fps-style combat - i will not play it therefore.

iam a beta tester too and agree this game is gonna have its fair share of dedicated fans P.S. wont release this september

  • XandramasXandramas Member Posts: 73

Its too unlike the old swg to be able to compare it. The closest thing you can relaly compare it to, in the mmo sense would be neocron but this is a little different than neocron. It doesnt have to be played fps either.

I'm stoked about the game....especially the crafting, and the setting.

I really wish they weren't pushing for a Sept. release, though.

Only thing that doesnt really seem fully developed is the atmosphere of the world, in regards to the terrain and things to see. Other than that it seems pretty good to go. Prob with that is beautiful terrain matters. Even if its post apocalyptic terrain

Bleh, without divulging too many details, I found the game to be complete ass. It's a stretch to call this anything like Pre-CU SWG...there's a few things that are similar in style...but for those looking for a second SWG: look elsewhere.

    Like Pre-CU SWG... hahaha.

ah...the problem is that there IS nowhere else to look.

There will be when a certain team has completed a certain project aimed at revitalizing pre-CU SWG.

I've given up hope that any future commercial titles will return to that sandbox feeling within my lifetime, so that's the best chance for us all.

Of course, I can't describe what it is or say what it's called, but most SWG veterans are probably familiar with it.

They are actually desperate about an old game.

Sort of. Were desperate for what that old game gave us, a sense of freedom (call it as limited as you like), a massively social gaming world and a feeling of "belonging" which came through role-playing characters we "cared" about.

FE doesnt make me feel these things. At all.

Good impressions from the beta, and I would renounce the idea that it is a second-coming of Pre-CU. An alternative perhaps, although it is still beta and it needs time to nurture and grow of course.

  • DoktorTeufelDoktorTeufel Member UncommonPosts: 413

There are some positive and some negative reports floating around about FE at this point. It's a love it/hate it polarization of general impressions as far as beta testers go. Guess we'll have to wait and see!

yeah, I know what you're talking about. You'll find me on the forums over there too. But that's the SAME game...not a different one.

    Thanks for posting this Xandramas.

The first thing I thought when seeing the screenies was "Fallout 3 online" but none of the reviews I read mentioned the obvious visual similarity.

I reckon I'll take a look at the open beta ;)

I think a lot of people wont like how rough around the edges the game can be. I have to admit though over the last few weeks they have really started to pour some polish on the game. The UI makes sense finally. Combats fairly stable. In my opinion its the world that just sold me on the game though. I just love the environments!

I know, how awful. What an insult to FE, comparing it to a piece-of-shit game like SWG.

    There can be only one...

    Vault 13

Yes, and its by the original creators: Interplay (NOT Bethesda!!).

Okay...and seeing as that vaults 1 through whatever don't exist in the FE universe I'd say you're pretty safe with your one and only "Vault 13"...

    Haven't you heard of Earthrise?

But that's farther away, so how it'll turn out is still uncertain. But on paper, it's better than any other coming sandboxes (in my opinion).
