I've been writing up a list as I go along with this come back trial thing, if something annoys me then I write it down. - Combat system wonky in PVP it just feels very off and it's hard to see what you're doing wrong with it. Unlike games like WoW where the combat system is perfect and just works and clicks with everyone. I hate for example how I have to use the directions to use specials but theres this lag between the time you click the button and you see it on screen. I want it to happen right away and I want the feedback. It also makes it very hard for melee classes like Assassins to hit their targets because the target is running about all over the place. I dunno it just feels very off in PVP. Oh and I also hate how the animations move you around the screen where as in woW your character stays in one place which makes you feel in control.
- loading loading loading... I hate having to load up everywhere, it breaks the immersion and I wish the game was seamless and felt like a world rather than a series of levels. -Can't visit lower lvl areas or quests and can't get quests which are oo high level which is annoying if I want to collect all the quests in one area and then level with the quests I can do. Then do the ones I've just gained acces to without having to run back to the quest giver again, which I would have forgotten where he is by then. - Armour all looks crap and the game is very dull on the whole. The character models while they can look good, looke off most of the time, really ugly and the clothes they're wear always looks like brown rags. I also think all the instances so far have been really poorly designed and boring compared to WoW.
- Game needs a LFG group system that WoW has. I mean it has something similar but it doesn't have the auto join a group or the summoning features of WoW which make it much easier to get into groups and do instances.
- More voice work needed because Tortage had voice work and then after that the world seems lifeless and dull. All the quest givers have no voices which seems very off seeing as it's trying to do the Bioware type thing... if you're not gonna voice that then I'd rather just have them give me quests like WoW.
- More dances cause the ones in the game are crap
- Weird targetting system. I mean it's very hard to target what you want fast and efficiently when fighting more than one target, where as in WoW it works.
- Lag period between combat and resting/stealth is annoying. Theres never any indication I can't do it but theres this weird like 5 second lag inbetween.
- Hate the way u talk to npcs. I just wish it didn't do that Bioware like thing that I said above, just give me the WoW style quest givers.
- Getting stuck to floor under water. I often find myself swimming and then get stuck in the floor bed and have to jump to get out.
- Hate the slow transition between zoning of how the load screen fades, which on a PVP server is annoying.
- Raise the quest limit cause I want to store group quests I can't do yet cause I can't find a group but then be allowed to go to a new area and get quests to level but my quest book is getting full up.
- To have an introduction to gathering and crafting would be nice.
That'll do for now.
I can tell you right now that you shouldn't have left WoW in the first place.
I left WoW cause Battlegrounds killed world PVP and so I couldn't enjoy it anymore cause it turned from an open world game to might aswel all be instanced.
I'm just comparing Age of conans features to the game that does them best. Thats why WoW is so popular because it nails so many aspects and blizzard are the masters of every genre they touch because they put the polish and testing in. Everyone I know loves WoW for the combat and the main problem my friends have with other mmorpgs when trying them out is the combat system cause they never feel as good as WoW's.
WoW is the standard now.
Everyone I know hates WoW combat (well except for my boy Krewel here - he counts for 50% of ppl I know - thats how big fanboy he is )
As for combat smashing buttons - you clearly didn't play this game long enough to master the system. The big thing with it is that you have to actually hit the character (granted that goes only for melee) in order to get hits registered. Also button smashing will not get you a win (at least not in 1v1) since you will most likely miss all the combost that way versus half decent opponent. Also, you have to aim for unshielded areas (mainly hitting your opponent on the back) so everyone who knows how to play will try to get around you and land a finisher there and not just smash buttons randomly.
That being said - this game has some very nice features that were not matched yet in MMO genres and it doesn't matter what lvl 15 ranger who never got off first island thinks about it. You gotta be blind and pretty damn stupid to not acknowledge FC for what they made right - if you do so ... we will be playing button smashing WoW like in 2050.
Yeh I know how to use the combat system but I just find it wonky and not very fun in PVP as a melee guy atleast. I don't like the hit detection on how you have to be right on them to do your attack cause your animations kick in and move you about abit and it dfeels odd trying to control a character thats animating and moving differently to the direction you want to go in. All that happens is the other character moves about all over the place and it's very annoying as a melee trying to stay right up their arse and doing combos aswel. I wish all my skills gave me instant feedback instead of that lag between hitting the keyboard and seeing it on screen. I wish my skills were all their own instead of in combos because it limits the skills I can use as they have this shield system.
Most of my combat has been against half melee half casters and all they do is jump up and down constantly moving about doing snares on you and keeping the right distance to where my attacks can't touch them. I've got no ranged skills myself and I have nothing to snare or stun them so I can catch up. I can use escape artist but that only works once in a fight.
I also don't like how PVE spots me very easily even if it's Grey and 10 levels below me and my hiding skill is maxed out. I just wish'd stealth worked like WoW's without any bullshit AoC does with it. I just don't like the directional combo combat and how you need to do 1 2 or 3 and then a skill. I don't like the animations making me mvoe about on the screen against my will.
It just feels wonky and WoW combat is so much better and thats why it is more popular cause people love the feel of the combat in that game. If you've ever played PVP in WoW it takes alot of skill and isn't a button masher. When you're taking on 3 vs 1 with your Priest theres alot that goes into it with like 20 odd skills you have to remember. If anythign in Age of Conan so far with my Assassin I've only got 3 useful attacks that do any damage and 1 escape...... more of a button masher IMO.
I didn't resub cause of the community firstly, and while the game has improved, its still not "there" I play wow, and plan on leaving when something comes out just cause I want something new, thats why i tried AoC, but it just didn't feel like they thought everything through.
And the innovations they made are excellent and hopefully some company comes along with an idea for a game and takes some elements from their combat system, and leaves the rest.

I posted somewhere around here a total list of skills that were used in a sucesfull 1v1 PVP fight on my bearshaman lvl 80 - it goes around 15 - 20 skills. As for PVP - I always found myself bored to that with button mashing pvp alike WoW (and I played better PVP games than WoW). There is no real feeling there imho. But to master AoC system you have to be able to predict your enemy movement and to be able to dodge yourself (most sins never touched me for example ... cept few best ones)
Wow I've been reading around this forum and another one and it looks like Funcom hasn't done all that much since launch. I was expecting a totally different game lol. I was going to try the trial but after reading these posts I'm not so sure anymore.
This is interesting...why would you base your information on what is said HERE?
Maybe read around a bit more, because if THIS is the better community for information for you, you would be sorely mistaken.
Maybe head to the real AoC forums so that you can balance the overadundance of hate here with people who have some constructive information to share (yes, not always good, but more about the game itself, and less about the company)
Or better yet? 10 lousy bucks to try the game for 30 days sure is the better option.
If you can't waste 10 bucks, then try another hobby...as the only real way to tell if a game is good...(especially an MMO, where the fervor of the mobs of fans and haters is too loud to make a real decision on your own)...is to just sit down and make your own choice.
Still, if you have to make up things your opponent says in order to argue against your opponent then obviously your position is very weak.
You honestly believe that this particular poster who has carried an agenda for close to a year now with all attack posts against Funcom and AoC, would now turn about and actually post something constructive, and actually wants a real answer? Believe me, I do not have to make up anything...why not read the OPS history...or can you not be bothered as you feel the same way?
I understand exactly where Finaticd is coming from.
I know you do.
Nonetheless AoC is the game that after a long wait, and after a very rocky start and continued game cycle FINALLY had a vet winback trial. Now population estimates, based on the same criteria used by those to say the servers were 'booming' during the trial, are down.
That is correct. Thanks to a "special" contest as well, which is over, where a majority of players will load the software for this contest, but then uninstall when it is over...yes, it can be used to state the servers are booming. It also can be shown to show a loss in Xfire players as well. It does NOT prove populations, which is what my argument is about...search engines also do not show populations. So, the OP's post IS pure conjecture, this is all my statement is. As well, how do they know how many subscribed and did not subscribe? So, their OP assumes this theory, with no data to back it up.
Still screams agenda, and all I am doing is pointing it out as such.
Whatever Finaticd's motives are, asking people why they did not resub after trying the trial is a valid question for AoC.
True. And I would not even post here if that was the case.but, when a person has shown they have a reason to purposely take a thread that really is not in the games interest based on their posting history, and are trying to prove something that is unprovable, or use it to post their own hate agenda?...I have every right questioning it.
I do not care if a person does not like the game. I do not have issues with someone stating it, and moving on. I have done it as well (mostly on my blog or directly to the company where it will do the most good), but OVER and OVER and OVER ad nauseam?

Nice to know you're still the fervent agent of subjective idealism. Aka - you know very little MMO players.
Still, if you have to make up things your opponent says in order to argue against your opponent then obviously your position is very weak.

Does it matter what I believe? Regardless of finaticd's motives, its a valid post. I didn't indicate whether I believed it to be constructive or virulently anti-funcom, or that he wanted a real answer. Just that it was valid. And still, if your response includes putting words in the OP's mouth, them you show yourself to be as worthless a poster as you hold the OP to be.
Still screams agenda, and all I am doing is pointing it out as such.
If it 'screams' then why do you need to put words in his mouth to make your point?
Whatever Finaticd's motives are, asking people why they did not resub after trying the trial is a valid question for AoC.

Worthless.
Fortunately what you care about has no bearing on what people are allowed to post about. And of course you can question it, but as I said, if you can do it honestly, you're helping your case.
Community wasn't that bad at launch. I think what happened was that all the normal people quit while all the assholes stayed. I'm not playing currently but my little brother says community on Aquilonia and Fury servers is terrible.
Indeed i have same experience from there.Though i must admit i got pretty laugh from flame wars on global chat.
Yeah, Fury is the worst. Aquilonia was better at first but then a bunch of those Fury players came there and now they are both horrible.
It's quite ironic really. AoC was supposed to be a mature game, but what happened was that all immature gamers crawled out off their holes and killed the community.
Hmm...maybe that is a European thing then. I play on the US based Set server with a very mature community, grouping all the time, raids on a regular basis. Full servers as well.
Maybe you just need to find a way to login to the US based servers say using some anonymous type of account (you know how to do that?)
Openedge1 thinks that the horrible community is an isolated incident on a European server and nihce thinks that WoW's combat system is bad because 10 AoC players that he knows claim so. WTB the newest edition of fanboi logic textbook.

After win backs and free trials. I just wan't to know why people are not playing this much anymore per the numbers of forum traffic of gamespot, AoC official site and per X fire. - it is no secrete that the game has few players on the three USA servers.
So, here he uses Xfire and other tools to show that the game has fewer players. How did I not speak truth when I asked him why he was using this as the end all be all? And as well, if it is no secret, then why am I not aware, and have had growth in my guild of new and returning players?
We heard so much has changed from fans but since the numbers are back down to where they were before the free trials, I just want to know why people are not playing as much.
How does he know this? What proof does he provide? Thus he has an agenda already established. And he is clearly using one tool to calculate time being spent in the game, as how would he know otherwise how much time players are playing? My playtimes have went up actually, so how is that calculated by this tool he is using?
I'm sure many people did start playing again so why did an equal amount of original players quit?
Again, he makes false statements, and you question my integrity? I mean, again, unless he works for Funcom, how does he know this? I would really like to know what factual data he bases this on?
Then he goes on to establish his hate track (you know...on the broken record he spins)
For me:
1) Funcom is an unethical company - they even lied and promised free level 50s with no fine print to veterans.
Not true. I knew for a FACT we got a one shot level 50. I am sorry his reading skills are not up to par.
2) AoC is a small MMO with very little to do, is to linear.
This is a personal issue. I have been in the game over 8 months, and still playing, entering fields I did not play in the past, joining new players for grouping.
3) This game is in jeopardy of shutting down if people keep leaving, it isn't AO - AoC costs way more to run
So, how was I false when I stated he is using some weird data to come to the conclusion that the game is shutting down. I hope he has REAL data to back this up...
4) PvP sucks and penalty system sucks.
Personal issues that do not reflect game issues, just a player having a problem with a mechnic they do not like. I hate the models in LOTRO for example...so is the game going to shut down or are people leaving in droves?
5) The game is still buggy and whenever I log on I get a black screen with a high end PC.
I have 3 computers with myself, my wife and my son playing...all have varying hardware and varying OS's even (Vista and Win 7), both ATI and Nvidia cards...and have NEVER had this issue. So, how can I not believe this is AGAIN a personal issue that has nothing to do with the game itself or the company...but a user who does not know how to configure their system.
______________________________
Now, read back over my post below, and show me exactly where I have "lied" to state my point...as all I can do is come to conclusions based on
Post History - information provided - and propensity to use personal issues to equal issue created by the developer.
I am confused. You are stating that Xfire is the end all be all of game subscriber rates, and now that AoC has gone back to the 40's, it will shut down?
You are also saying that since forum traffic is down, even though the forums seem to be mostly full of haters and trolls with agendas than actual players, which to me sounds like there is actually less hate discussion than game discussion, that the game is going to fail?
Had I not already shown you how low on the charts games like EQ2,CoH, Vanguard, Lineage 2, etc are on these same charts, yet they continue to thrive?
Finally, you use these tools to come to some arbitrary number of players in YOUR head (which I assume will be some ridiculous 50k range), when we players who are on the actual servers still see a ton of players?? You use some sort of conjecture out of the thin air that supposedly as many players quit than stay...almost like you WORK for Funcom, because they would be the only ones to know this...which I doubt.
Guess you could see why I am confused. (I really am not, and know the main purpose of this thread...but lets pretend)
I sure am not saying that AoC is some smash hit, I also am not saying that Funcom is making money hand over fist (and they deserve it for what they did to this game), but these doomsday threads get old, and sound more stupid everytime they are posted...especially by you when that is all that you seem to do.
I guess I cannot see the reason to post utter crap like this is all.
I think I know exactly what this person is doing, and I am sorry you do not see the same.
Openedge1 thinks that the horrible community is an isolated incident on a European server and nihce thinks that WoW's combat system is bad because 10 AoC players that he knows claim so. WTB the newest edition of fanboi logic textbook.
So, you have played on the US servers? I sure am not saying they are perfect, but I have NEVER run into this issue. But, I am sorry you think I am a liar. , I will lets others decide....to help, I am from the US, I play on the US server up to 50 hours a week...you are not from the US and I doubt you have played on the US servers.
And it is good to know that you know nihce so well that you know how many friends he has. Who needs Big Brother when we have Krewel to watch over us.
Gotta get a hold of the "Funcom/AoC haters manual" now to see how this exactly works.

Its not that I don't 'see' it, its just that what he's doing is irrelevant to the validity of his question. Also, what he's doing is exactly the same as what you're doing. Just from different directions. There is no complaint about finaticd's post that doesn't apply to your posts except that one is pro and one is con. And bottom line, if you can't point out that finaticd has an anti-funcom agenda without putting words in his mouth, you fail.
Openedge1 thinks that the horrible community is an isolated incident on a European server and nihce thinks that WoW's combat system is bad because 10 AoC players that he knows claim so. WTB the newest edition of fanboi logic textbook.
Yes, it's pretty lame to say that European servers are immature because European gamers are more immature.
It's the violence and big boobs that make AoC servers immature.
You gave yourself away there. sigh here we go again
Better yet, just try to enjoy life and find silver linings where you can, because the whole world and life itself is unethical. Brow beating a company for doing what other companies and even governments do ...seems just like wasted time.
The game is still Buggy (As are ALL MMO's? Go ahead, show me one that does not have patch notes with big fixes) End game needs alot of work (As are ALL MMO's? Show me one game that still does not need to add endgame content?) Classes are imbalanced (As are ALL MMO's (ok, got me on this one...as are ALL PVP based MMO's?)
Those are the 3 things an mmo needs to keep its players around, Funcom with their buggy Dreamworld engine will never make this happen... And don't forget every other MMO. I mean, all of your issues are exhibited by other MMO's, so I guess I do not get your point? Now, AoC has more of this as an issue? Sure...one year in, and content is weak...just like WAR is, so, I mean, launch a new game, you will have issues. Now, if after say 2-3 years and all these issues still exists? Then yes, the game has an issue. I have been around MMO's long enough to know that WoW is not a measurement. Thus, expecting games to be as polished is silly. Good luck finding ANY MMO without the issues you list (even WoW).

Clearly the poster has a standard of what is acceptable for each of the criteria listed. And whatever that standard is, apparently AoC is too buggy, end game needs too much work and the classes are too imbalanced for the poster.
That you have to take it to 'all or nothing' in order to make your points indicates the weakness of your arguments.

I would agree, the "everyone sucks so it's ok AoC sucks" argument is very weak. You have to remember some ppl see any criticism of AoC as a personal attack on them. When the truth hurts ppl tend to grasp at straws and justify short-comings in their arguments.

Like I said, learn something about relativity and know that there is competition out there.

My Thoughts on Content Locust

I posted somewhere around here a total list of skills that were used in a sucesfull 1v1 PVP fight on my bearshaman lvl 80 - it goes around 15 - 20 skills. As for PVP - I always found myself bored to that with button mashing pvp alike WoW (and I played better PVP games than WoW). There is no real feeling there imho. But to master AoC system you have to be able to predict your enemy movement and to be able to dodge yourself (most sins never touched me for example ... cept few best ones)
This is interesting...why would you base your information on what is said HERE?
Maybe read around a bit more, because if THIS is the better community for information for you, you would be sorely mistaken.
Take some time and read an article at TTH (AoC after 1 year).- http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/72341
Cheer mate.
Worthless.

Nice to know you're still the fervent agent of subjective idealism. Aka - you know very little MMO players.

Fortunately what you care about has no bearing on what people are allowed to post about. And of course you can question it, but as I said, if you can do it honestly, you're helping your case.
Lets see then...how did his post go again, so we can reread it? As it feels like you did NOT read it.

Why would I sub to something that is just terrible
So, you have played on the US servers? I sure am not saying they are perfect, but I have NEVER run into this issue. But, I am sorry you think I am a liar. , I will lets others decide....to help, I am from the US, I play on the US server up to 50 hours a week...you are not from the US and I doubt you have played on the US servers.
And it is good to know that you know nihce so well that you know how many friends he has. Who needs Big Brother when we have Krewel to watch over us.
Gotta get a hold of the "Funcom/AoC haters manual" now to see how this exactly works.
I think I know exactly what this person is doing, and I am sorry you do not see the same.
For me, personally, I'd have to go with #4 and the poor community. Perhaps they are feeding off one another. Loot treadmills FTL.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
Think its simple:
Those are the 3 things an mmo needs to keep its players around, Funcom with their buggy Dreamworld engine will never make this happen...
all the instancing and zoning ruin the game for me
This happens to be my number 1 reason too.
It just covers so much ground for those who know the whole story, and....
it should be the only reason people need to completely boycott this company and all of it's products. Nevermind simply not resubcribing.
Yes, it's pretty lame to say that European servers are immature because European gamers are more immature.

Even a game such as Americas Army 3 is buggy to hell. Still doesn't stop people from playing. Play it or don't. Simple as that.
When did you start playing "old school" MMO's. World Of Warcraft?
there's also a lot of idiots out in the world because we coddle the stupid too much
