Absurd NCsoft price! (digital copy)

PaincakePaincake Member Posts: 139

I wanted to prepurchase directly from NCsoft, and the collectors edition costs 60 euros and 50 euros for standard edition. Whilst normal physical copies from stores are 45 euros.

Isn't digital distribution supposed to be cheaper? Hello...  there is no physical product involved with digital distribution. No fancy box, handbook/manual, poster/artwork, soundtrack composition cd and what else is included in the CE I don't know.

How much does NCsoft charge for the digital versions in U$ dollars?

Seriously, I don't want to make a big deal out of it, but its just a matter of principle. You feel like getting scammed.

So I just quickly checked on Steam, and its priced the same as NCsoft store.

This is really a new low, charging more for digital distribution versions then the original retail box store price? It doesn't add up, makes no damn sense.

Really? You guys have been getting discounts on digital versions?

In the states, we pay 50.00 for both digital and retail. Collectors edition is always a bit more expensive, but you get more with it.

Theory and logic would say that digital copies should be cheaper since that is the biggest argument in regards to copyright infringements with pirating of movies/music.

But I don't think the game producers put any time into considering out of stock or digital downloads being consumer friendly since most people would ultimately buy the game that way if there was a discount, which would show a drop in profits at initial sale.

It's a nasty beast but there it is. It's the flip side of CE copies being more expensive than regular distribution copies since technically, you aren't getting more physical product.

Those who know Steam, there's nothing new there.

It's actually a 1:1 convertion from USD to Euros, and that's horrible, yeah, prices in USD are 50 and 60 dollars.

I suggest you send them a support ticket and in a negative case preorder from a local retailer unless you don't mind paying this extra, but I think this is VAT-related.

Haha. Hey, come on, I was only considering. And experiences like these only worsen my skepticism. I don't understand why digital distribution has to screw you over like this. Prices just are not reasonable.

Meh, its a bad justification tbh. Things like this only encourage piracy :P

This. That was exactly what was running trough my mind -_-

Its the same with PC hardware market. It sucks very much for hardware, because that involves much bigger prices.

It is cheaper, for them. No one said they have to forward the savings to consumers. At best right now you'll get games a lot cheaper during sales like steam has on weekends.

Just curious, exactly how do you "Pirate" a MMORPG, short of going into a store and stealing it.

They charge more for Digital because they know ppl will pay that for "instant" access, no need to wait a few days for the post or leave the house and head to your nearest retailer who might not have it in stock.

I have been a victim of it, I bought Company of Heroes: Tales of valor on steam for £25 yet it was £15 online and £20 in the shops.  But I wanted it NOW! so i paid the extra.

Encouraged piracy, I was refering to Digital Distribution in general.

Before making the topic, I compared normal single player games too. The pricing is intended, and it sucks.

Buy from Direct2Drive.co.uk, Aion preorder is only 29.95 pounds in there, VAT included.

But did you get it faster? For me it's faster to go to the store and get it, than wait for couple of hours of download.

Again some of you crybabys baffle the shit out of me.  EVERY company charges the same for digital copy or a box copy.  Go troll somewhere else and again if this isall you can complain about get over yourselfs.

On the topic of it being cheaper ?  Maybe but the internet isnt free they pay something for thousands of people to download over 8 gbs of data it is not free.

  • SoupismSoupism Member UncommonPosts: 272

I'm a big advocate of downloading while I sleep.

And yes, it does encourage piracy. It's a flawed logic, much akin to the "war on drugs" making pot all the more successful because it's "illegal". It's a retarded notion that any corporation/department can control ANYONE from doing what they want.

Yeh thats the best reason I hear so far. But the download rights are included from nornal box versions too, so it makes no difference.

It's still cheaper to distribute digital even if you have to pay for the bandwidth. Do you think that NCSoft will sell the game 50$ to gamestop (or whichever) and then they sell for 50$ too. NCSoft probably get 25$ out of the 50$ minus all packaging, transport and all cost relate to it. Even if they sell the digital copy 40$ they will make more profit.

Remember the whole suggested retail price issue?  Well why would stores want to get the game from NCSoft to sell for $50.00 when NCSoft would undercut them and sell it for $40.00.  Gamestop would feel screwed.

    Hi all!

Ncsoft ever select the "digital version" as favourite. Never I see different prices between box and digital versions...

    Hugs!

Well I understand the whole thing is problematic. But I think I'l most likely go for retail box in the end. If I decide to buy the game that is.
