Its getting frustrating

I'm not saying Darkfall is a bad game, but its not for everyone,it only appeals to people who love PVP.I on the other hand like it sometimes, but most of my time is spent harvesting.I love crafting. It happens like clockwork though, especially if i have to travel away from the city for metal nodes.I always have a red who attacks me and i rarely get away.I can understand it happening sometimes, but this happens all the time to me.You spend an hour harvesting for what?to lose it all.Very frustrating.

I'll be with a group, and they'll come from nowhere and just kill us all, they  always seem unusually strong. This game has only been going for a month now.

Yeah i am complaining,whining,bitching

I guess i'll go back to UO or maybe mortal online for a Better sandbox

You're going to get the usual replies:

Have your clan protect you while gathering"

    or

"Max out your skills and go kill them"

but in truth, there's no really good answer for your problem. I remember in UO how the reds used to basically farm the miners.....it wasn't pretty.

And it's still the exact same thing 10 years later. It seems like a problem that can't be fixed in a pvp centric game.

And I can just imagine what kind of replies you'd get if you posted this on the Offical forums...

Sorry bro but it is how it is, if its profitable for them you will be ganked. Learn how not to be an easy target/get protection.

    Its FFA pvp

Mortal Online will be the exact same way (forget the stupid allignment change that some think will keep carebears safe).

EvE you might like alot - you dont have to be in 00 space all the time so you are protected by NPCs.

The downside to DFO's approach to PvP is that the game was so focused on PvP that it forgot all about the RPG side. You are either PvP'ing or prepairing to PvP in some way. The crafting, Harvesting, PvE all of it are means to an end and nothing more. That end is PvP. With PvP pretty much being the only fun thing to do, thats what people do and they try to do it constantly lol.

When UO first launched they had a similar issue with the griefing and random PK's but it wasn't nearly as bad as in DFO because there was a ton of stuff to actually do besides PvP. So it was far from a non stop gankfest.

What DarkFall has become due to the mechanics and lack of options is a PK game. It's not a PvP game anymore. It's not about being the most skilled, it's about killing as many people as you can by any means neccessary. Outnumber them, attack them while there in battle, attack them while there harvesting etc. Thats why many PvP'rs actually left DFO in the first place lol. I like and look for a good fight, which would take me a long time to find a lot of times. Good fights being as hard to find as they were/are you have two option, leave or randomly PK for that PvP fix lol.

And no worries man, I know several that went back to UO and are waiting on MO. Myself included.

The frustration is very understandable.   Let me share with you some constructive feedback you may actually find useful to turn this around.

Please first let me say that because DFO was built as a PvP-Centric Game, and while it has zap towers in certain areas, basic stuff like you are bringing up is up to the players, not the developers.   So if you can take a look at this political map darkfallinfo.com/pmap/  you will see the guilds that own the various cities and hamlets throughout the world, and the alliances formed between them.   So for exemple, look at the RED ARMY.    It's a safe bet that if you joined Dark Hand of Valor, or VG, or one of those guilds, you would get back to town many more times than you do now, becauee there are far less random gankers all the way up there and most of the people who live there are allied to each other, seeing each other as green.   I am not suggessting you join those guilds, but giving you an example as there are many alliances that would provide a similar level of security you are just not going to find in the starter areas.

Ok, so now you are in a guild, hopefully of like minded players who speak and treat each other with respect.    Do your thing.   If you can mix some bulding of your fighting and magic skills in with your crafting, all the better.     It is very satisfying when I get jumped, chug a heal potion, then destroy the attacker, but of course, I get ganked to; it happens; but there are ways to make the field a bit more fair, but so long as you operate out of a newbie area with no guild or alliance, you are very much at a disadvantage.

    Good luck -CC

RPG? Who the fuck cares about roleplaying? DFO is a PvP (MMO FPS/RTS) game. The last thing we need it a bunch of roleplayers running around trying to speak elvish?

BTW, don't you RPG'ers have a Renaissance Faire to go to where you can drink mead, gorge yourselves harvest biscuits, and admire women who all somehow look like Venus of Williendorf? It's summer, for Goddess sake. Go there and leave us alone.

Well, it's all well and good...

Erm, except when you consider this:

    What is Darkfall?

Darkfall is a groundbreaking real-time Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. (MMORPG) developed by Aventurine SA

    Taken from here: www.us.darkfallonline.com/default.php

No matter how you argue (and I agree that Darkfall has not an IOTA of RPG, it's just a glorified, persistent Hexen room), Aventurine sells it as an MMORPG. As such, they should cater to these clients that, like you, pay for the game.

Renaissance faires are great businesses, lots of fruit cleft in twain and fair lasses serving rotgut. But we do that AND play games. Imagine that!

I supose you do not know that RP only works in FFAPVP MMO`s (no , i mean it , no sarcasm) . If at all possible , I RP in every mmo i play , yet I only play PvP games (that`s why my history of mmo`s is so short....rest in peace Shadowbane!)

That reminds me...were you in SB?

No, they should change their description of the game to MMOG, which they have done in several places on the new US site.

MMORPG is THE most misused acronym in the MMO genre. MMORPG.com can't even get it right. Half of the games found on this site have little or no RPG elements at all.

Player city or NPC city?  Anywhere within a few miles of a NPC city, your fair game to reds.  If you join a clan, usually you can find a nice quite spot to farm to your hearts content.  That is, if their town is not near a high traffic area (or they make themselves into one).  I know people who have logged 2000 timber, are super overweight, and slowly go from tree to tree and still log in peace.  Its a big world.

The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

My best times in SB were with the elven roleplayers on mourning ....and yeah we did say hi or taunt people in elvish

Allso , CoT & co on vindication were great places to be...RP aswell . Ofc we got flamed , ganked , called a zerg , whatever , we laughed , flamed (IN ELVISH) , ganked back...All in good fun , and RP sure spiced stuff up a lot

The same is valid for EvE : I can call primary/form gangs or whatever in vent , and i can RP in chat , or RP on corp/alliance scale . For me , it really helps enjoying PvP a lot more . Some sort of RP reason behind it all , rather then a frag fest.

In terms of staying alive harvesting, my suggestion would be to work out where "nowhere" is.  If you are close to a starter town, in a nice green field, and can see other players, they can see you.  There are plenty of forgotten paths and vales, and even standing between a rock and a tree can improve your life expectancy as a harvester in Darkfall.  You need to out think your opponent if you cannot outfight them.  Where are these hallowed forgotten spots?  Well, not telling you mine!  And I certainly do dress for the occasion (minimal / valueless gear, and a pickaxe).

And when you have a nice amount of ore?  Recall home, don't walk.  Ever.
