something your parents should have taught you at like age 3, nothing in life is free.  beta keys cost $5 for a preorder at your local game store.

These guys are messing with you because I believe NCSoft is not offering any kind of beta key giveaway. Someone else alluded to your solution: pre-order it for $5, that gets  you into the beta. If you don't like the game before launch, you know what to do.

Just do what I did, I got this Idea from someone, cant remember their name sorry.

But just go to gamestop.com and preorder it online. They don't charge you anything at the time of order.  Free Beta Key and if you like the game your set.  If you don't im sure you can cancel the order, I so far like the game so I'll be buying.

There are some things that in life that are free, but for the ones that aren't use Visa. lol

I got my key for free, heck I even used a debit card that is no longer active just for fun. I bet you could enter random numbers on gamestops site and pre order it and get a beta key for free. Ehh that reminds me I need to switch my card info so I can get billed when this game comes out so I can have a sub.

    According to gamestop.com;

" Orders may not be canceled once beta code has been sent."

That's if you order it online. You can just go to a store and put down $5 for a preorder which serves as a downpayment for the game. Don't like it? Don't pick up your copy.

Ehh I didn't read that part. Oh well Im not going to need to cancel my order anyways. But i think there is a way to get around it. I think there is a pick up at store option, your expected to pay in full at store. Simply just don't go and pick it up.

Yeah I don't understand why you order it online you can't cancel it but if you order it in store you can't just do it the same way.

Oh well but you can still do it for free, just use an expired credit card.   Some companies are stupid, they shouldn't have even let me place an order with a card that doesn't even work.   That reminded me when I was 17 I was out skateboarding and Fashion Bug was giving away free 2 liters, I gave them a fake social security number. 2 weeks later I got a credit card in the mail. lol I cut it up as soon as i got it, i just wanted the free pop.lol

It's so you don't abuse the pre order beta keys.

There's no real reason to have to rip anyone off, or abuse a system in order to play a game. Think about it.

Why don't they just charge you 5 bones like they do in the store then? if you don't want it oh well dont get it.   You're out 5 bucks the company gets their share you don't buy the game everyone is happy. Its better than paying 50 or more bucks then finding out the game horribly sucks ass..... lol its happend to me  a few times.

Yes I know beta is supposed to be for finding bugs not trying the game out for free, but Im getting tired of getting burned so I did it this way, I get to check the game out for free. Im sorry but I look out for myself not some company I don't own and won't give me my money back because I didn't like the game.

This way of beating the system is nothing compared to the people that pirate software. They get the game for free, with MMO's you have to at least have a sub to play so the company isn't at a total loss.

Because NCSoft sells copies. The retailers sell individual keys. The retailers can make more profit that way if you pay for a beta key to "test" and then decide you do want the game.

NCSoft isn't going to piecemeal a game they "know" is a good seller. Once September rolls through and the game is released, I'm sure they will have trials etc (christmas time?) to give people who are hesitant about what they want a chance to find out.

Preordering and "preview weekends" are for people who know for sure they want to be involved.

Such is the way of free will and choice =).

EDIT- This isn't really a "beta" since the game has been out for quite some time in full release, it's just a "soft opening" for NA although the website says "beta" it's odd. Guess it's easier than calling it a "final test" /shrug.

Also, this isn't the forum to talk about piracy or my involvement in it so I will refrain from commenting on the comparison. Feel free to send me a pm if you feel strongly about it though.

Keep in mind that "looking out for your own" is a good practice/theory to use, but it IS different than "trying something new".
