CrimeCraft: Skill System Interview

StraddenStradden Managing EditorMember CommonPosts: 6,696

MMORPG.com's Jon Wood recently had the opportunity to ask Executive Producer Matt McEnerney and Senior Content producer Mike Donatelli a few questions about skills in Vogster's upcoming MMORPG CrimeCraft.

MMORPG.com:

Can you tell us how skills are important in a game whose combat is more about aim and reflexes than it is about dice rolls?

Matt McEnerney:

Skills supplement a player's arsenal and can be used to either enhance a player's skill or counter an opponent's skill. The goal was to give the players several options and make meaningful decisions as they level up. Make no mistake, CrimeCraft is a skill game, but if you make the right choices with skills and boosts, you can gain an advantage over your opponents, especially if you coordinate with your fellow gang members and plan which skills you will use for that particular game type and team structure.

Zorvan, I think the title says "CrimeCraft: Skill System Interview." But I see what you mean.

I don't think I can ever get over the weird Blizzard-wannabe title of this game. If they renamed it to Cops and Robbers Online, I'd instantly be 10 times more interested.

    It's definitly not a mmo :)

But i dont really think vogster announces CC as an mmo?

@CayneJobb: there are no cops here ... but as you i dont understand where the "craft" may come in the game name :p

It's more then that. The "Crime" part is completly false. There is no crime in this game. Whats funny is the police are the ones you talk to about queuing to fight other players. I think they figure since people want a criminal based MMO they can maybe get into the mix by making a 3rd person shooter and throwing crime  in the tittle, the craft part is pretty obvious. The games better off called Barrel Roll Shoot.

Because you can craft items when you return to the "lobby".

Yes, that's right Jon, the lobby.

You know, that thing that makes the game not an mmo?

That thing that is specifically listed in this site's rules prohibiting such games from being listed here?

Even Dana Massey  has been nice enough to reiterate that "lobby based" games are not allowed here, when answering questions of "Where's Diablo 3?".

Care to comment? Or can we just expect to see Diablo 1,2, and 3 added along with Counterstike, Battlefield, Quake, and all the rest? Might wanna formally change your rules for admission ( as well as the site name ) so we don't have to argue about this anymore.

Ah, Zorvan, I agree with you. If you are going to make rules, please stick to them. I like having a set of rules to play by, and I don't really like them being changed much or often. And I especially don't like them being ignored and not changed at all. This isn't an MMO. It just isn't. I don't understand. I would like some clarification from someone as well.

"There are two great powers, and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit."

It is called Crimecraft because everything can be crafted by the players. You can play PvE and gain loot to craft with. Things like weapons, weapon mods, clothing, and drugs.

There is no lobby like other fps's. You run the streets talking to people, gaining missions by payphone, checking your mail at the mailbox, buying stuff at the auction house, taking the subway and trams to get around, etc., etc..

You gain skills as you progress through the game. The cool thing is you are able to choose any skills you want, but may only equip 3 in an instance. You can also reset your skill choices at any time if you feel you would rather try something else.

As for the "Crime" part, you are in a gang and you fight police, FBI,  and other gangs. It is intended for 18 year olds and up due to the nature of violence and adult language.

Is it an MMO? It's massive, it's multiplayer, and it's online. So yes, it is an MMO.
