There has been no information released about PvP except that it will be in the game...
Anything beyond that is in the realm of speculation.
This will stir up alot of QQing for sure.
But remember, Mythic is now working with Bioware on the game. And their specialty is RvR. Seeing as how the game is already divided into two factions...
Let the sh*tstorm begin.
This isn't the game you're looking for. Move along.

Like the previous poster said, anything said about pvp in this game is pure speculation.
If I had to put money on it, I would say pvp will be about as involved as say a game like wow is invovled with pvp. Now I ain't saying they would adapt the same pvp system as wow. I just think pvp in SWTOR will probably be a secondary yet viable and entertaining portion of the game.
I don't think it will be MAJORITY of the game like WAR or DAOC or Guild Wars.....
Every indication we have is that the PvP is going to be lame like every other RvR game out there.
Once you have finished the story, there's no reason to play anymore.
I think this is what they mean by "TOR is not for the hardcore."
What's that Lassie? QQ? I don't understand!
Not being a fan of PVP, I could live without it entirely... Barring that, it would be nice to have PVP not affect my PVE gameplay.
This desire seems to be a lost cause, honestly the only game to actually get it right IMO is GuildWars but I think it could be done in TOR. PVP needs to have a point and purpose other than just shooting things up good... They need to dedicate entire worlds to the conflict, but not *EVERY* world. These contested worlds should have meaningful battle.. Victory gives control of entire towns.. control enough towns and you can control the entire planet and all it's resources are more available to members of that faction.
For example: Say Maanan (spelling?) from KOTOR is contested. As it's the place where the majority of medpacks ship from the faction with greater control of the planet would have cheaper medical supply costs at vendors to reflect the greater control. Should a faction have total control the price of medical supplies for the other faction sold by NPC vendors would spike greatly (there would still be smugglers of course so the supply would never dry up). Taking that a step further.. since you can be a smuggler, the smuggler of the loosing faction would have new quests available to try to ship supplies out for their side, clearly this is a PVP endevor and should the smuggler be caught they have to fight their way out!
What I'm proposing is just an example of a more dynamic "living" PVP with point and purpose. Sure I can't say I'd take part in it often but I still think it would be a very cool aspect. Course.. is it possible?? Only bioware would know that... I may post this to the bioware forums and maybe someone there might see it and comment.
>_> <_< ^_^
I agree with you. The thing that I find the worst is the attitude that PvP brings out in people. It doesn't matter what the rules are when the players are sending you nasty /tells and being total jerks.

You got that one right. I enjoy PVP as much as the next guy, but when it starts resorting to hate tells just because someone got beat it loses the fun factor IMO. Why some people take these games so seriously I will never know.

i've been PvPing in MMOs for a long time, i don't think i have gotten a nasty tell because of PvP since my UO days, and i havent played that since '01..
Not sure what you all are playing to get them so consistantly...
Then you have been fortunate enough to play on more mature servers. But if you want examples...
Played SWG 2004-2007
I played a Bounty Hunter and got them a lot. In fact, not only did I get nasty tells but it also led to city bannings. That was the life of a bounty hunter in that game.Usually it was because I got them in the middle of a grind or when they were trying to run away. This was the game where I noticed it more than any other I played. Granted, the PBS was designed in a way that encouraged this sort of behavior, but it still doesn't excuse a lot of the nasty tells me and others experienced. Pre-NGE it was from guys who were hiding on planets trying to grind. Post NGE it was on Restuss. One guy had his buddies to use their vehicles as shields that he could hide behind so that I couldn't shoot him. Another Bounty Hunter came along and we got him. Then the guy had the nerve to post obsceneties that I had ganked him.
Played Warhammer for 2 months and experienced it in the RVR parts. Not as bad as SWG, but still prevelant.
In fact, I would say World of Warcraft was the my best experience as far as maturity in PVP . And this is the game that most people hold up as the most imature. Guess it just depends on what server you are on.

yea, i guess i can see it in SWG as a bounty hunter.. I didnt play one, thugh now i wish i had ; )
I played very early beta in War, and played it up until just recently, and have never recieved one.
Personally, i would just chuckle if i got one, if it got out of hand, use the ignore feature. Though it hasn't been problem for me, I can see where it could get a bit annoying.
Not like you believe. The few people from Mythic are not directing what pvp goes where, they are not even in a position to bring anything from war to the game.
If you had seen the interview with the head Bioware guy, he is asked, "So how about Mythic working with you on this game"
He did not even hesitant with his answer, and basically stated, "They ain't doing shit, and are sitting back and watching." He mentioned when someone would ask them, it was, hey how did you do this part of the pvp aspect wrong.
I do enjoy people that just hear something, from a random person, and tell everyone else that it is true.
As for the PvP, I would expect battlegrounds, duels, some arenaish stuff, among open world pvp for those servers. They stated they "had all that", but no details. Do not expect pvp looting, FFA PvP, or anything like darkfall.
I doubt PvP will be very hardcore until end game (or near) in TOR. Sounds like it's gonna be almost 2 games, one with story and RP, and a little PvP for the beginning to get people acclimated to the system, then later you can do all the harder core stuff.
I remember them saying something about this in an interview a while back, like they were gonna ramp players up to the bigger war (PvP) slowly. I doubt it will suck later, but I bet it won't be all the hardcore PvPr's want in the beginning of the game.
I like PvP, but really haven't been into it much since the long ago days in SWG. I hope it's done better in TOR. It was fun then, looking back it was really unbalanced. I mean I had 2 really effective attacks I used in PvP as a BH pre-cu, Underhandshot (Carbines), and eyeshot (Pistols). lol lame. Most of the time I only used my LLC for PvE.

I wasn't talking about the loser of a fight, I was talking about the people who harass anyone who doesn't want to PvP them. Point in case, the insult about being a carebear toward me in this thread. I played WoW for three weeks (never ever again), and at least once each week, I was harassed for not being willing to PvP people. In pm, and in email, by other people who got their friends to harass me. Each time I was forced to create a new character. Which is interesting since in three weeks I STILL made it to level 46 playing only about an hour a night, and deleting my character 4 times (one of the reasons I left is that the levelling is too easy in that game).

I assume that you reported those people and Blizzard did nothing. I played on a RP server so maybe that is why I didn't experience a lot of what you and others have said about WOW's community. In my entire time playing that game I only experienced one jerk. He constantly followed me until I used my spell to transport my character back home. Other than that people left me alone.

Yeah, I have a couple of 80s and lots of lowbies. I have never ever experienced the above. Most people were pretty nice to me actually. The only issue I have had is with a couple of lonely guys who decide to "help" me out all of the time.
Yeah, I reported it. I never even got a reply from Blizzard, even when I emailed them directly, and it wasn't worth actually calling them over it. I've assumed that it must be such a regular occurence, that they just thought I wasn't worth it to reply to, or that they thought I was "carebear" too so they didn't want to bother.
I wasn't on an rp server. I never play RP servers, mostly because other people tend to be sticklers for staying in character and most of the time, I can't be bothered. Not to mention that RP servers tend to be extremely crowded which is the main reason I don't play on that server type on EQ2.
If you cant handle the heat, dont join a pvp server then simple as that.
If you were on a PVP server then I can see why you didn't get a response. Those servers are specifically made for the type of players that like fighting other players 24/7. It isn't an excuse for them griefing you, but those servers tend to attract that type of player and I suspect that the makers of the game know this. It's far better to seperate them off in their own server than to throw everybody together and deal with the inevitable nightmare that comes with it.

.... where did I say that I was on a PvP server, huh? You do realize that there are rp servers, pvp servers, and regular servers, right? I don't join PvP servers because I don't like PvP. I'm not dumb. You may like to think about yourself though.

If I was on a PvP server, I'd have said it. I don't play on PvP servers.

No, guild wars is not the only MMO to get it right, Nearly every game i have played has had enjoyable pvp, except FFXI. As for hate tells and mail, these things are easily ignored and most games have an ignore feature so just slap that on them. Pvp is an integral part of MMORPGs, it allows those people that have a crave for competition to bash each other around. Me for one, i would never play MMOs if they did not have Pvp. I would just play Cod 4 all day.
Tried: EvE, DnD Online, LotRO, WAR, AoC,
Played: UO, SWG(pre-cu), GuildWars, FFXI, WoW
Liked: UO, SWG, GuildWars
Disliked: WoW, FFXI

Ok, look... an ignore feature only works so far in wow. Unlike EQ2 (where ignore means you ignore all characters from that player), WoW only blocks the one character from that player. Or at least they did a couple years ago. That may have changed. My ignore list on a single character was 36 before I finally deleted one of them. So don't give me that. Some jerk had his whole guild harassing me in pm on the first character that I made because I wouldn't PvP him. They were bright enough not to use email to harass me because they knew that I then had proof to send to the devs.
And then there's the fact of things like poaching. In EQ2, poaching isn't possible because once you start fighting something or gathering something, its locked to you. People may start to help kill something after the fact, but it won't give them anything to do it. In WoW, it isn't. And, when people are following you around just to get to something before you do to make it so that YOU can't get it, its a problem.
Think about it.
