Sorry but I had to post this, the irony of it all.....I've been eagerly awaiting the EQ2 beta contest and have made a point of logging in, posting and generally getting more actively involved in the community with the hope that it will increase my chances of being picked.
For 26 days (approx) I log in the moment I switch my computer on just so I don't forget. I've wanted to play this game since it was first announced and even though i'm hugely annoyed about no PVP i'm still eager to see how it all works.
The day the contest is due to end arrives, I finish work, have something to eat, watch a bit of TV and come upstairs to log on around 8pm. Not only do I feel hopeful, I really think this is one competition i'm going to get a chance of actually winning. Only days before they had announced that I wouldn't need to sit up until 2am and that Euro players get their own draw! Joy! I'm an hour away and nothing can stand in my way, type a few emails, maybe have a game of EVE for a bit, sorted!
The phone rings, its my mother. My gran has fallen extremely ill and the priest has come to read her last rights. My mother thinks she may have a few hours left and i'm asked if I would like to be there. I immediately jump in the car and start off on the 2 ish hour journey back home.
As i'm on my way my thoughs turn back to the competition, damn, i'm going to miss it but there are things more important to do. It occurs to me that all thats needed is someone to log in quick at just before 9pm. There is no computer at my mothers house so I think of a friend I could call. Now at this point i'm feeling pretty upset about my gran and i'm not thinking all too clearly.
I get out my phone, quickly dial my mates number and wait for the answer. No reply, ok i'll try someone else. Phone rings, she picks up...Yes! result...I say hi and start to explain the situation. Well she's totally cool with it, says no problem she will log on in a minute (it's about 8:50 at this point). At that moment i see the dreaded flashing lights in my rear view mirror....the police, nice!
To cut a long story short, they pull me over for using my phone. Apparently i'd been driving past their unmarked car when I popped the phone to my ear. They followed me a short distance and noted that I made several calls. I even explain the situation...with a little embelishment about being on the phone to my mother and family, and is there a chance of getting off with a verbal warning. Was there hell!! So, while I'm giving me details for the on the spot fine I remember that I didn't get a chance to give my friend my user name and pass for the site! Arrghhh!!
It gets better. The policeman informs me that there is a penalty of three points on my licence for the offense. Well here in Britain if you are within two years of passing your driving test (1 year 6 months here, I was very late learning) and you recieve 6 penalty points on your license, it is revoked...please take your driving test again! I have already been issued 3 points when I was caught doing 68 in a 60 zone (my fault I know, but still).
By the time I am all done and on my way, having been told I can contest the 3 points in court if I wish, i've forgotten all about the competition....until today that is:

Well... that was very sad sad story. But it is said that people should be happy when someone has passed away and sad when a baby's born as the child is born into sin and the other has gone to a better place.
