I've been following FFXIV/Rapture since it was first shown/rumored back in 2005. It's been a really painful wait with maybe a line or two of new "info"(which was mostly about the crystal tools engine) a year since then. This is the MMO I've been waiting for and I'm sure I won't be let down. Now I'm just hoping they keep the stream of info steady into next year. It would suck if they went quiet for 6+ months or something.

I have also been following FFXIV since it was under the codename "Rapture". I was so excited once I heard that it was quite possible they would reveal the game at E3 2009, and they did in fact show it. The sad thing was we were left without any follow up information other than interviews that really just told the same things we found out from E3. In the last week or two we were practically overwhelmed with information, and I hope this trend now continues. I'm looking forward to Gamescom 2009 on August 19, where hopefully we can see come actual game play or maybe hear a release date for the beta. Once beta opens up, we will probably have non-stop updates not only from SE, but from the players who are participating in the beta. I wish the game was ready to play now, but I know that in the past SE has never made a bad game so I wouldn't want them to rush this one either.
There are three kinds of people in this world. The one's who can count, and the ones who can't.
we are getting sooooo many FFXIV info lately
SE has always been secretive with their games while they are under development; since they have a large QA staff they really don't need to do open betas and such, as was seen with FFXI prior to its Xbox component. One hand hand, it keeps other companies from ripping off their ideas, and on the other it keeps their fans in the dark until the game nears release.
I personally believe they are doing the right thing by keeping as much information as they can a secret, since many games have based their success around taking other games ideas (looking at you, world of warcrack) while others nearly copy one game to the letter.
