Gaming Laptop

Xyfire1Xyfire1 Member Posts: 128

Obviously, I want to get a laptop suitable for running top-quality graphics.

I don't want to pay top dollar for it either. I suppose my budget would be about $1,300. I have been searching and I really love ASUS so i am really considering http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220536

The specs are really solid and you can't really beat an 18.4 inch screen. Portability and weight is not an issue at all. So what I am asking for, really, is recommendations on other laptops and feedback on this laptop. The smallest screen I would want is 17", no less.

Preferably no Vista, but I'll probably get a hold of a Windows 7 key after I get more info. I want to run Aion on this baby with at least 50-60fps. Any more, great.

We are all geeks here, I know you know what specs are minimum for a gaming rig. I'll leave you to do your things :D

I'd go with this www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx and just install a 64bit OS to it.

just an FYI, unless there is some specific reason you MUST have a laptop, you can usually buy 2 good desktops (self built) for the price of one semi decent laptop.

I just got done pricing a system off newegg for my upcoming upgrade, and it was right around 700 bucks, and thats a top of the line quad core with 8 gigs of ram.

I always build my desktop part for part but if I had to get a laptop for gaming I would get an Alienware

(I would never use a laptop for gaming).

Definately cheaper and better to go desktop

Just stay away from Alienware.   If it breaks your sol talking to india unable to understand what the hell their saying other than send it in and we will charge you 280.00 to look at it.  Seems to break a couple months after warantee.   Check out Ebay and count how many Alienware high end laptops are for sale around 100 -200 bucks saying doesnt work but good for parts.   Hell mine is probablty on there soon.

This post is intentionally written as to not make any sense what so ever. Thank You Very Much.

Well coming from the military standpoint you really dont have much of an option and a desktop is hardly reasonable in the tight living conditions over there. I wouldnt be able to live without video games for over a year so i bought a laptop before i left. About a month before i redeployed i ordered all my stuff from newegg so it was sitting here when i got home and gave my laptop to the wife now that its barely able to play newer games on lol.

Forget that... how about the fact Alienware charges you 2x the cost of the machine, simply for the name! Most of the Alienware 5,000 machines, can be built for under 3,000

The Asus laptop you linked is one of the ones I like for the $1300 price range too. I also like the Gateway p7807-u and the MSI ~$1300 laptops. You should double check for drivers if you intend to switch it to a 64-bit OS.

Well, this one has a 260 instead of a 130, a bit better.

Yea that's a kickass laptop, didn't see the 260M out yet.. nice. Dunno how he feels about the smaller screen but it wouldn't bother me, just easier to carry around :)

Here is a good mixture of performance and price.  It also comes with a 3-year manufacturer's warranty.

I already have a build saved in my wishlists with top of the line specs for 800 bucks. The point of the laptop is because I am out a lot and would like to play Aion and other games while I'm not home. I'm an 'on-the-go' geek and gamer.

I appreciate all the posts. But please, try to refrainfrom posting laptops with screens less than 17". Again, weight isn't an issue.

    Thanks :)
