Sorry if this question was brought up before or not but i sure hope they keep the same control scheme they had in Final Fantasy XI. I just loved how they created the controls, that you didin't need a mouse to play. It was simple to play on my TV or even on a monitor just by using one hand to do everything from rotating the camera and being able to move and use spells and skills. Of course their gonna be people that dont agree with me. But i was just hoping they implement a similar control scheme, for those people that found it simpler.

It is a console MMO so its controlls will be similar to FF11

Ya thats true, but ill most likely play on the PC due to the grpahics. I'm not saying that the ps3 will have worse graphics. They will be gorgeous, but still the pc will always have better graphics then the consoles due to its limitless boundries.
You will pay up the nose for a system only capable of eeking out a small difference I think. Thats how it was in FF11. In years to come computers capable of playing the game fast and easy will cost less and then I might move if I find the differences to be worth it. Untill then , I has me faithfull PS3, HD TV and ethernet.... and I stand vigilant.

The boundaries between console and PC are getting smaller every year. The components inside a console very closely resemble a PC, and you can do many of the same functions of a PC on a console (browse the internet, check email, watch movies, etc). The only big difference I see is the OS (and therefore the applications you can run). It wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft came out with a version of Windows for the Xbox (you can already run Linux on it and many other consoles).

Thats true but it takes them usually couple years to make a next-gen console, by then pc cababilities alrdy skyrocket. But i do fully agree that the graphic on a ps3 with HDTV look marvelous and their no way you can deny that.
That is a pretty big assumption to make, think about the advancement of technology between PS2 and PS3, and the amount of advancement on computer hardware.
If I cannot use my G19 keyboard, my keypad and my mouse to bind macros, I will be pissed, as will other people who have dropped large amounts of cash of input setups.
I hope to god the controls will not be similar because it was a headache for a solely computer MMO player to figure out how to move in FFXI (I have played it). That alone took me longer than it should have.
It took me around 30min to figure how to change controls. How much it takes you depends if you try to search for information or want others to tell you how.

Well consoles already have removable/replaceable hard drives, who's to say the next ones won't have replaceable video cards, memory, and CPU's? That's all it would take for a console to keep up with a PC in advancement. However, I don't know if that makes good business sense because then you don't have to replace your whole console every 2 years like you do now.

*see the word similar.
I don't doubt that a USB macro attachment will work with this one. But the controller will work just like in FF11, adn I loved using the controller. PC controlls were a breeze after an hour or two of getting used to them... Mouse and click is hellish to me, but to each their own.

I'm fine with the controls in FFXI, personally; the ability to use gamepad or keyboard. The mouse in FFXI seemed a hindrance more than anything, to me anyway.
However.. I do hope they have better support for mouse/keyboard setup.. something similar to the FPS setup, as it's used in other MMOs. Simply because it would make it easier for others to pick up... Though it's second-nature to people who've played FFXI for a while, its control scheme on the PC does leave a bit to be desired. So, to have a more familiar keyboard/mouse setup would be more intuitive to many players. Getting the controls "out of the way" would allow them to focus on the gameplay instead... as it should be.

I definitely agree that giving players UI options will allow people unfamiliar with the FF11 UI to play much easier, but I hope we don't get a watered down UI, like point and click buttons. I do not want forced buttons on my screen clogging up my beautiful FF screen. but if others can choose to have them, I guess I can deal, as long as it doesn't somehow make the gaem easier to hack/bot.

I'm just talking about controls as in navigation, etc. More options is more options... wouldn't consider it "watered down".

And I was clear that giving more options to people is great as long as they don't make the game easier to hack/bot.
A second also clear point was I did not want forced buttons clogging up my screen.
SE can offer as many other UI options to people they want as long as I am not forced to use buttons on my screen like in WOW

Ahh okay... I didn't read your paragraph as one complete thought... I read it more as two different points in one paragraph.

SInce you have played it you macros were totaly a big part of FFXI. FFXI was my first mmo when ppl kept talking about WOW, DAOC, or evercrap. I stuck to my guns and said Final Fantasy has made many good games for me and it wouldnt be right if i didnt give this one a good chance.
Well holy crap ive never played a mmo or a computer game for that matter so i was lost. Sure i could have WOW and figured out in 20 min like my friends kept telling me. 2 weeks later after asking a million time how do i do this and that i learned the sistem and i made about 30 friends that i played with for 3 years.
If you waste all your time compaining about how bad it is youll never see the good. I remember having to make so many macro lists it was 10 right you could have about 10 sets of macros right all with 20 comands
thats was the best i must have remade thoughs lists a thousand time heh
I one thing im really hoping for dancing. I wana see what SE thinks a tarutaru should dance like. rolf

I'm with Bellarion. I too have G19, G9 mouse etc. But do you really expect SE giving you any significant advantage over other platform. Forget it. It will have indentical UI and controls on PC and PS3, just with joypad buttons mapped to keys. basically like it is in FFXI.
Only difference will be possible resolution and some optional gfx details/effects.
We'll see "because of PS3" phrase a lot, As we have seen "because of PS2" with FFXI as excuse why is something that way and can't be changed/improved.

I'm concerned about that as well... But when I think about it, it might not necessarily be the same. The circumstances this time around are different than they were for XI.
For one... FFXI was originally designed specifically for PS2, PC was an afterthought that came later. By the time it came out on PC, everything had already been designed and developed specifically as a console-only game. So, short of going back and totally revamping the client, or creating a separate client for PC, they were limited in what they could do (or at least what they found worth the time/effort).
FFXIV, on the other hand, is developed from the start with PS3 *and* PC in mind.
Also, the controls and UI on the PC were one of the biggest complaints players had about FFXI for the entire time it's been out. That topic is still as common today as it was 5 or 6 years ago. Given that SE has pretty intelligent developers there, I'm willing to bet they have more separation between the PC and PS3 clients this time around right from the start... including the controls.
Don't remember where I read it, but they've said interface customization could be possible - rearrange windows, etc.
So... we shall see!
